He was this total jungle expert who has spent most of his life in the rainforest. As soon as we stepped off the plane, we were hit with warm humid air and the amazing smell of tropical flowers. I knew right then this was going to be the best trip.Our hotel was right on the beach in Waikiki. The view from our room was incredible - just bright blue ocean as far as you could see. The very first afternoon, we changed into our swimsuits and went boogie boarding in the warm Pacific waves. The water was so clear and blue-green. I saw little fish swimming all around me! After, we walked along the beach and found a place to get shave ice - that's like a Hawaiian snow cone. I gotone flavored with guava and passion fruit. So delicious and refreshing!The next day, we went on a submarine tour underwater. You could see the coral reefs and marine life up close through the big windows. There were brightly colored fish, sea turtles, and even a reef shark! It was like being in a real-life aquarium. My little brother was a little scared of the shark at first, but the tour guide said they're not dangerous unless you get really close. Phew!Another day, we took a helicopter tour over the island of Oahu. Flying over the bright green mountains and valleys was breathtaking. That's how they say "hello" in Hawaii, and let me tell you, my trip to the Hawaiian islands was totally awesome from start to finish. It was the best vacation ever!It all started last summer when my parents surprised me and my little brother Tommy by telling us we were going to Hawaii for two whole weeks! I had learned a little bit about Hawaii in school, but I didn't really know that much about the islands. I just knew it was supposed to be a totally rad place with beaches, surfing, volcanoes and all that cool stuff.After what felt like the longest plane ride of my entire 12 year old life, we finally landed in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The first thing I noticed when we stepped off the plane was the amazing tropical smell in the air - like flowers and the ocean all mixed together. It was incredible! The next thing I noticed was how warm it was compared to back home. The pilot said it was 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which is like a thousand degrees Celsius or something crazy like that.Our hotel was right on the world-famous Waikiki Beach, with a gorgeous view of the bright blue Pacific Ocean. I couldn't wait to get out there in the water! After we got settled into our room, we immediately hit the beach. The sand was so soft and white,and the water was this beautiful shade of turquoise that you'd never see in a million years back in Ohio. Tommy and I spent hours playing in the waves and burying each other in the sand. We even saw some kids surfing and I told my dad I wanted to try that before we left.The very next day, we went on this awesome tour of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. Even though it was all about a terrible battle from a long time ago, it was still really fascinating to learn about what happened there. We even got to go out and see the sunken battleship underwater, which was pretty sobering when you think about all the men who lost their lives on that ship.After that, we spent several days just hanging out at the different beaches, hiking through jungles to see beautiful waterfalls, and going on boat tours around the islands. We saw tons of marine life like dolphins, whales, sea turtles and colorful fish. One day we took a helicopter tour of the whole island and even flew right up to the edge of the volcano crater at Diamond Head. So cool!Easily one of the highlights of the trip was when we went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve. At one point, I saw this huge sea turtle just casually swimming right next to me. It was amazing!On our very last day, I finally got my wish and took a beginner surf lesson on Waikiki Beach. But after falling off my board a million times and swallowing what felt like gallons of seawater, I finally stood up and rode an actual wave for a few seconds! The flight attendants gave us snacks and drinks too which was nice.After we landed, we rented a car and started driving toward the Grand Canyon National Park. It took us a few hours to get there from the airport. I'll be honest, the drive was kind of boring at first since it was just a lot of desert all around us. But then we started seeing these cool rock formations in the distance that looked almost alien. My little brother and I pretended we were on an expedition to Mars.When we finally arrived at the park entrance, I was blow away by how massive the canyon was. Pictures really don't do it justice. It stretched out for miles and miles with layer upon layerof colorful cliffs and rocks. We stopped at one of the viewing areas along the rim and I just stood there in awe, staring out at this gigantic hole in the earth. It was both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.We ended up hiking part of the Bright Angel Trail which takes you down into the canyon itself. Now that was an adventure! The trail was really steep and rocky in some parts. A few times my mom had to help pull me up over some big boulders. But the incredible views made it all worth it. We passed by towering canyon walls, cacti, and even saw some deer at one point.By the time we made it back to the top, we were all exhausted but felt so accomplished. That night at our hotel, I had the best sleep ever. Over the next couple of days, we explored some other areas around the south rim including stopping by an old west town that felt like being transported back in time.I took so many pictures and videos while we were there, but I don't think anything can truly capture the feeling of standing in person at the edge of that vast, ancient wonder. It's one of those things you simply have to experience for yourself. The Grand Canyon made me feel so small, but also amazed by the power ofnature and how it shaped that immense landscape over millions of years.Our trip came to an end way too quickly in my opinion. As we were flying home, I couldn't stop staring out the window at the little Grand Canyon-shaped hole far below. Even though it was only June, the temperatures were sweltering - well above 100°F ev ery day. We had to drink tons of water and take frequent breaks in the shade. I felt like I was going to melt into a puddle by the end of each day!On our last night, we watched the sun set over the rim in a brilliant blaze of orange, red, and purple hues. What an unforgettable sight! As the colors faded into twilight, I felt so grateful to my parents for taking us on this remarkableadventure. My favorite was the lazy river pool where you could float along in a inner tube. There were also water slides, a swim-up bar for the grownups, and a special kids pool area with flamingo floats. I spent hours splashing around and playing games in the water.When I got tired of swimming, there were lots of other activities to do. One day, we went on a guided hike through the lush, green rainforest. Our guide taught us about all the interesting plants and animals found only in Hawaii. We saw colorful birds, climbed over roots, and waded through streams. Another day, we took surfing lessons on the beach. The instructors showed us how to pop up on the board and ride the waves. It was hard at first, but so much fun once I got the hang of it!The best part was the time we spent on the beach, though. The sand was soft and warm between my toes. The ocean seemed to stretch out forever, sparkling in the sunlight. My brother and I would run and jump over the waves crashing on the shore. It’s not so far from Changsha, taking about five hours to get there. Zhangjiajie is famous for its wonderful mountains. The sceneries there are amazing that no one should miss. Beijing is our capital city which is famous for its long history. Now we have a one-day tour plan for you.
In the morning, you can start the day at the Great Wall. It's one of the greatest wonders in the world. It's so magnificent that you can't go to
Beijing without visiting the Great Wall. At noon, you can go to the Summer Palace. There are so many interesting sites, such as Wanshou Mountain, Kunming Lake, Suzhou Street, and some other ancient palaces. So you can climb Wanshou Mountain first. The view on the top is so wonderful. Next, you can go boating on Kunming Lake, and then, walk on Suzhou Street to enjoy the life of regions south of the Yangtze River. In the afternoon, you can go to have a long walk
on Tiananman Square, in order to see the city well, and then you can visit the Palace Museum. There you can see different objects of different periods. They are of great value. In the evening, the Front Gate Walking Street is a good place to go where you can buy various kinds of souvenirs and clothes. Most buildings there have the traditional Chinese styles. Maybe you can know some history of ancient Beijing.
