I had so much fun riding the rolling waves!We also visited the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, which was a somber but fascinating experience. One day, we went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve on Oahu and saw tons of tropical fish and other marine life up close. The water was so crystal clear and the fish were every color of the rainbow.Another day, we took a helicopter tour of the entire Big Island of Hawaii. Flying over the black lava fields and huge volcanoes was seriously amazing. And when we flew by giant waterfalls spilling right into the ocean, I couldn't believe how beautiful it all was. The sky was the brightest shade of blue I had ever seen. Once we collected our luggage, we met the driver who would take us to our hotel. It was about a 45 minute van ride through crazy traffic. There were cars, trucks, motorbikes, and tuktuks everywhere zooming around without seeming to follow any real traffic rules. I was amazed we made it in one piece!Our hotel was like a paradise. It was right on the most gorgeous beach with soft white sand and crystal clear turquoise water. The hotel itself was huge, with several big swimming pools, landscaped gardens, restaurants, and even its own water park! Our room had a private balcony with a view of the beach and ocean. I couldn't wait to go explore.We spent the first couple days just relaxing by the beach and pools, and getting used to the heat. The water in the ocean waslike a warm bath. I could have spent all day splashing around in the waves and making sand castles. We went on a banana boat ride which was a total thrill when the driver went super fast and we almost fell off into the water! In the evenings, there were fun activities like fire dancers, magic shows, and traditional Thai dance performances. The food was incredible - I tried so many new dishes like pad thai, green curry, mango sticky rice, and fresh seafood.On the third day, we went on an incredible all-day boat tour of some of the nearby islands. We took a big ferry out to an area called Phang Nga Bay where there were huge limestone cliffs jutting straight up out of the emerald green water. They looked like towers from a castle or sci-fi movie setting. Our first stop was a hidden lagoon surrounded by cliffs on all sides. We had to go through a small cave opening to get inside. The water in the lagoon was so clear you could see all the way to the bottom 20 feet down. Fish were swimming all around us as we jumped off the boat and went for a swim. It was like being in an natural pool in the middle of magnificent cliffs. So cool!Next, we went to what they called James Bond Island because part of an old James Bond movie was filmed there. It was a narrow strip of beach between two giant rock formations.We walked along the beach and I collected some neat shells and rocks. For lunch, we stopped at a fishing village built right over the water on platforms and wooden stakes. We had an amazing fresh seafood lunch at one of the floating restaurants.After lunch, we went to a secluded beach and did some snorkeling. I was a little nervous because I had never tried it before. But our guide helped me get used to the equipment and feeling comfortable underwater. The reef and marine life was absolutely stunning. There were so many brightly colored fish, coral, plants, and other creatures. It was like being in the best aquarium except it was all real! I saw a giant school of bright blue and yellow fish, a few small sharks, a stingray, and even a sea turtle. I couldn't believe all the life thriving under the surface. Snorkeling was one of the biggest highlights of the whole trip for me.On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at a mall and walked around the huge outdoor market section. It was full of vendors selling souvenirs, clothes, art, fresh fruit and so much more. The smells, colors, and sounds were amazing. We bargained for some souvenirs like fridge magnets, t-shirts, and little carved statues and figurines. I also tried some fresh coconut water and mango from a fruit stand. So delicious!We spent the rest of the week just enjoying the beach, pools, activities at the resort, and doing some more exploring around Phuket. I didn't want it to end! On our final evening, we had a candlelight dinner right on the beach. We watched the sun slowly sink below the horizon, casting an orange glow across the sky and water. It was the perfect end to our magical holiday in paradise.The travel day home was just as long with very early morning wake up calls and lots of time waiting in airports. But I didn't even mind. We drove all the way from our house in Cincinnati to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. It took us two entire days of driving to get there, but it was totally worth it.The first thing we did when we arrived at Yellowstone was to set up our tent at the campground. My dad loves camping and being outdoors, so he was really excited. My mom helped him put up the tent while my little brother and I tried to catch grasshoppers and butterflies nearby. Our ranger guide said that the vivid colors come from different types of bacteria that live in the spring's waters.Another highlight was seeing the Mud Volcano area, where there are gurgling mudpots and acid steam vents. The exhibition is built for CAEXPO. The bike broke during my way back,but a student from Guangxi University kindly gave me a lift. On the last day i got up early to go to Qingxiushan Park.
