Certainly, language learning is a complex and multifaceted journey that requires dedication and perseverance. While various factors contribute tosuccessful language acquisition, individual motivation and effective study strategies play pivotal roles. Firstly, intrinsic motivation is crucial as it fuels the learner's desire to engage with the language and overcome challenges. When individuals are genuinely interested in the language and culture, they are more likely to invest time and effort in the learning process. Secondly, effective studystrategies are essential for efficient language acquisition. These include regular practice, consistent exposure to authentic materials, and structured learning plans tailored to individual needs. In addition to motivation and study strategies, the environment can significantly influence language learningoutcomes. Immersion in the target language through travel, language exchange programs, or interaction with native speakers provides invaluable opportunities for authentic language use. Furthermore, supportive learning communities, such as language classes or online forums, can offer guidance, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Moreover, language learning can be enhanced by embracing a growth mindset and recognizing that mistakesare an integral part of the learning process. Instead of viewing errors as setbacks, learners should perceive themas valuable learning opportunities. This mindset fosters a willingness to experiment, take risks, and ultimately make progress towards language proficiency. In summary, successful language learning is influenced by a combination of factors, including intrinsic motivation, effective study strategies, immersion in the target language, supportive learning environments, and a growth mindset. By fostering these elements, individuals can maximize their language learning potential and achievetheir linguistic goals.

Well, let's dig into this interesting debate about where the government should put its money, on railways or on public transport like buses. On one hand, those who think the government should spend on railways have some really good points. Railways are like the superstars of long distance travel. For starters, trains can carry a huge number of passengers at once. Imagine a long, shiny train snaking across the countryside, full of people going to different places. It's a very efficient way to move large numbers of folks, especially during peak travel times like holidays or rush hours for commuting between big cities. Also, railways are often seen as more environmentally friendly compared to other forms of long distance transportation like planes. Trains can run on electricity, which is a much cleaner source of energy. And they can help reduce traffic congestion on the roads in a big way because they take so many people off the highways. On the other hand, the people who believe that money should go into buses also have a strong case. Buses are the real workhorses of local transportation. They are everywhere, right? You can find a bus stop in almost every neighborhood. This makes them super accessible for people who need to get around their local area, like going to the grocery store, to school, or to work if it's not too far away. Moreover, buses are relatively cheap to set up and maintain compared to railways. The government doesn't need to build a whole new infrastructurelike tracks and stations everywhere for buses. They can just use theexisting roads, which are already there. And this means that the money can be spread out more evenly across different areas, including small towns and rural areas where building a railway might not be economically viable. In my humble opinion, I think the government should not choose one over the other but find a balance. They need to recognize that both railways and buses serve different purposes. For long distance travel and connecting major cities, railways are crucial. But for local mobility and ensuringthat every citizen, no matter where they live, has access to public transportation, buses are essential. So, why not invest in both? Maybe use some of the money to upgrade railway systems, make trains faster and more comfortable, and at the same time, pour some funds into improving bus services, like buying new buses that are more energy efficient and creating more bus routes in areas that need them. That way, everyone wins in the end.。

In today's rapidly changing world, the value of education has become a hotly debated topic. Some people argue that practical skills should be emphasized over theoretical knowledge, while others maintain that theoretical knowledge is equally important. In my opinion, both practical skills and theoretical knowledge play crucial roles in education, and they should be considered as complementary rather than mutually exclusive. On the one hand, the proponents of practical skills argue that these skills are directly applicable to the real world and can better prepare students for their future careers. In today's job market, employers are increasingly looking for candidates who possess practical skills that can be immediately put into use. For example,in fields such as engineering, medicine, and technology, hands-on第1页/共2页锲而不舍,金石可镂。

One argument commonly raised that this process will be damaging to the globe diversity. When locals are bombarded with foreign products or culture, they may gradually abandon their traditional values or ways of life, so this would have a negative impact on their national or cultural identities in the long run. They even quote numerous examples such as the Eskimo in Iceland and Mosuo ethnic group in Southwest China to illustrate their point of view. While this is particularly true of some minority cultures, I want to point out that they are still special cases instead of the general rule.Generally speaking, sharing something across the globe can contribute to a deeper mutual understanding between different nations. For example, a piece of country music by John Denver may well shed light on the peaceful daily life of Americans while a pop song by Cui Jian may introduce to Westerners a much more familiar China. What is more, an experience of some alien cultures may encourage more appreciation of the local ones, rather than assimilation or malfunction. There is overwhelming evidence on this when we consider japan, or China, or even the US, which tend to incorporate theinternational elements into the local. To conclude, I am quite optimistic about the prospect of an increasingly similar world. Of course, some minority groups may be put at a disadvantage for they cannot receive equal attention as the superpowers. So I also advocate that governments or other bodies should make efforts to bring these minorities into the international horizon.B卷参考范文Knowledge is power, Francis bacon wrote long ago. Education has a key to play in one’s growth and a nation’s development.Education is the driving force of productivity. Keeping this in mind, numerous countries and governments are paying closer attention to the cultivation of talents. People differ greatly in their views as to how to wisely allocate educational budget, some people assert that instead of supporting other subjects, national investment in science is desirable. As I see it, government should place equal stress on both science and arts.Granted, plenty of evidence and arguments could be easily found to prove that it is advisable for a nation to subsidize science. For a start, the competition among different countries, to some extent, amounts to the competition of gifted people. Science and technology is the stimulating factor of the development of productivity. Large amounts of talents could inject new life into a nation’s prosperity. Besides, in comparison with art students, those who are better equipped with science knowledge such as computer, business and accounting could create more commercial value.Nevertheless, it is rather superficial to simply say that national budget should be only restricted to science investment. The mightiness of a nation involves many aspects and the cultivati on of good citizens or talents is to realize one’s comprehensive development. The construction of a country needs enterprisers, mathematicians and scientist, yet, on no account can we ignore the immense value of artists, writers, musicians. In addition to science subjects, literature, history, philosophy, music, art and PE should also become the aim of education. Literature strengthens one’s cultural deposit, history deepens one’s insight into life, philosophy fosters one’s analytical thinking, music moulds one’s temperament, art cultivates one’s artistic eye and PE enhances one’s health index. In these senses, art still deserves enough attachment and support. Art talents are indispensable to the betterment of a country.Overall, I re-affirm my conviction that education should not have too much utilitarian, conversely, it needs to render more concerns over one’s spiritual growth and character-training. Ideal educational policy should place equal significance on science investment and other subjects.

In this digital age, a whole bunch of people are getting their news fix from the Internet. Well, it's like a double edged sword when it comes to whether it has a negative impact on our lives. On the one hand, there are some not so great things about relying on the Internet for news. First off, the Internet is flooded with all kinds of news sources, and not all of them are reliable. It's like a wild west out there. You might come across some click bait news that's just made up to get views. For example, there are those so called "exclusive" stories about celebrities that turn out to be total fabrications. This can mislead the public big time and make people believe things that are just not true.Another problem is that with the constant stream of news online, it can be overwhelming. We're bombarded with so much information all day long. It's like a never ending tsunami of news. People can get stressed outtrying to keep up with it all. And sometimes, this overexposure to negative news, like disasters and crimes from all over the world, can make people feel anxious and gloomy. It's as if the world is always on the verge of falling apart according to the news we see. However, on the flip side, getting news from the Internet also has its perks. For starters, it's super convenient. You can access the latest news right from your phone or computer, whether you're on the bus, having a coffee break, or just lazing around at home. It's like having a newsstand in your pocket. Also, the Internet gives us a wider range of news. We can learn about not only local news but also international events, from political upheavals in far flung countries to the latest scientific breakthroughs. It broadens our horizons and makes us more aware of the world around us. In a way, it connects us to the global community. In conclusion, while getting news from the Internet can have some negative impacts like misinformation and information overload, it also has positive aspects such as convenience and a broader perspective. So, it's not all doom and gloom. We just need to be a bit more discerning when we're surfing the news online. We should check the credibility of the sources and not let the news consume us completely.。

In this modern age, technology has barged into every nook and cranny of our lives, and the way we socialize is no exception. With the ubiquity of mobile phones and the internet, our social relationships have been turned topsy turvy. So, are these changes a blessing or a curse? Well, it's a bitof both, like a double edged sword.Let's start with the positive side. Thanks to technology, the world has become a much smaller place. I can now chat with my friend who is living on the other side of the globe as easily as if they were just next door.Social media platforms have made it possible for us to keep in touch with a large number of people. For example, we can join groups based on our interests, whether it's a group for book lovers or fitness fanatics. This way, we can make new friends and expand our social circles like never before. Also, for those who are a bit shy in face to face interactions, the internet provides a more comfortable space to communicate. They can express themselves more freely through texts and emojis. However, there are some downsides too. One of the most obvious problems is that people seem to be more distracted when they are together physically. You often see a group of friends sitting at a table, but instead ofchatting with each other, they are all glued to their phones. It's like there are invisible walls between them. Moreover, the online relationships can sometimes be quite superficial. We might have hundreds of "friends" on social media, but how many of them do we really know well? It's easy toclick the "like" button or leave a short comment, but true emotional connection might be lacking. And let's not forget about the phenomenon of cyberbullying. Some people hide behind their screens and use unkind words to attack others, which can have a very negative impact on the victims' mental health and their ability to build normal social relationships. In conclusion, the impact of technology on our social relationships is a mixed bag. We should embrace the convenience and new opportunities it brings, but also be aware of the potential problems. It's important to find a balance, like knowing when to put down the phone and really engage with the people around us. We can't let technology completely take over our social lives, but rather use it as a tool to enhance our relationships in a healthy way.。

2022年4月16日雅思写作范文Task 1(如果是图表题,由于没有具体图表信息,我假设一个常见的柱状图来写示例)The bar chart illustrates the number of visitors to three different museums in a certain city during the four seasons of a year.Well, let's first take a look at Museum A. In spring, it had arelatively moderate number of visitors, say around 300. Then, as theweather got warmer and sunnier in summer, the number of visitors shot up to about 500. It seems that people like to combine their museum visiting with their summer outings. However, when autumn came, the number dropped back down to around 350. And in winter, it was the least popular time for Museum A, with only about 200 visitors. Maybe it was because the cold weather made people less willing to go out. Now, turn to Museum B. It had a different pattern. In spring, it hadthe highest number of visitors among the four seasons for this museum, reaching nearly 450. But then in summer, the number decreased to around 350. Autumn saw a small increase to about 400, and in winter, it dropped to around 300. It's a bit strange, isn't it? Maybe Museum B had some special exhibitions in spring that attracted a lot of people. Finally, Museum C. Throughout the year, the number of visitors was relatively stable. In spring, there were about 350 visitors. In summer, it was around 380. In autumn, it was 360, and in winter, it was 330. It seems that Museum C has a steady group of fans who visit it no matter what the season is.Overall, we can see that different museums have different popularity trends across the seasons. Museum A is more affected by the weather andseasons, while Museum B has some unique fluctuations, and Museum C is the most stable.Task 2(假设是一个关于社会现象的话题,比如:Some people think that the government should spend more money on promoting a healthy lifestyle to prevent illness. To what extent do you agree or disagree?)In this day and age, there's a lot of talk about whether the government should fork out more cash to promote a healthy lifestyle and keep diseases at bay. Well, I'm all for it, and here's why.First off, prevention is better than cure, right? If the government pumps more money into promoting healthy living, like telling people to eat more fruits and veggies, exercise regularly, and not smoke, it can save a whole lot of money in the long run. Just think about how much it costs to treat people with serious diseases like cancer or heart problems. If we can stop these diseases from happening in the first place by getting people to live healthier, it's like hitting two birds with one stone. We not only make people healthier, but we also save the government's purse from getting drained by those expensive medical treatments.Secondly, a healthy population is a happy and productive population. When people are fit as a fiddle, they can work better, study better, and generally contribute more to society. For example, if more people are in good shape, there will be fewer sick days at work, and companies will be more efficient. And students will be more alert in class and get better grades. It's like a positive cycle that just keeps on giving. Some might argue that the government has other important things to spend money on, like building roads or schools. But hey, promoting a healthy lifestyle doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. It can be as simple as putting up posters in public places, having free health check upsin local communities, or running some cheap fitness classes in parks. These small things can make a big difference. So, all in all, I think the government should really open up its wallet a bit more when it comes to promoting a healthy lifestyle. It's an investment that will pay off in spades in the future.。

Job hopping and changing places of accommodation have popular in these days. While some people prefer to stick to the same job and living area all life long, I think that some changes can lead to desirable consequences.People who stay with the same organization have the advantage of thoroughly understanding the process of operation at work and also becoming more familiar with the staff. If they work hard, their promotion prospects are good and there is likely to be greater job Security, with promise of a good pension when they retire.Traditionally, employers value loyalty and may offer additional incentives to long-term employees. However, many employers today value more of their employees’ capabilities and devotion during their time staying in the company. Besides, many companies prefer a change of blood from time to time to maintain their competitiveness and vitality.Today, moving from one organization to another can be seen as a strategic decision in order to have variety and acquire a range of skills and experience. Also, for most people they get their first job they have little idea whether or not they will remain in the organization throughout their working life. So it might be unreasonable to stop giving themselves some chances to explore in terms of their career prospects.Nowadays, modern telecommunication and computer technologies have granted people the chance of working at home and free to choose location of residences without worrying the commuting home and office. And people tend to move to different place for better education and medical resources for their families when they reach certain age of life or they prefer to settle cities or towns where they could lead a more peaceful way of life.Overall, I believe that, as it is planned carefully, change can be positive in people’s choice of life.。

Is it a positive or negative developme nt? Topic 01:Housing shortage has become a serious urban social issue in many parts of the world. It has been argued that only when the government has taken actions, can demand for homes be fulfilled. Yet to the best of my knowledge, the government alone cannot cope well with housing shortages. One of the main objections to government intervention is that it would hamper the private sector and simultaneously pose a huge burden upon the state. In countries where the government is on a tight budget and the homeless population is large, the involvement of private property developers is required and recommended. Not only does it release the government from the burden of funding large-sized construction programs but it also fosters the housing industry. Given its role in attracting public consumption and accelerating economic development, the housing industry should be at the mercy of the market, rather than the government.Another drawback of state control over the housing market is that it could result in the stagnancy of construction quality, functionality, facilities and other aspects of housing. Apartment blocks or other residential constructions would be built in a similar pattern and the cityscape would be monotonous. Excessive uniformity, especially in the size and number of rooms, will fail to meet comprehensive requirements raised by citizens on properties.Despite these objections, government intervention is essential in some segments of the market and can render more resistance to citizens. Single parents, the people withdisabilities and other disadvantaged people are among those who are not ready to afford commercial housing. The government can provide them either with housing allowance to purchase their private properties or directly with economical houses. As indicated above, in addressing homelessness and inadequate housing, the joint effort of both government and private sector is required. While government intervention would impede the property market and negatively influence the supply and demand relationship, government assistance is essential for low-income families and vulnerable individuals in need of housing,Topic 02: Across the world, especially the wealthier parts, the mobile phone has taken the place of telephone as an electronic telecommunication device, with the majority of the adult, teenager and even child owning one. As this technology has become rife, its drawbacks, which can be seen from social, medical and technical perspectives, deserve people's greatest attention.Similar to many other hi-tech products, such as computers, mobile phones have detrimental effects on users' health. For example, long-time heavy phone users seem to be more prone to certain types of cancers, although evidence to date is inconclusive. Another lethal health concern is the link between mobile phones and road accidents. It is argued that motorists have a much higher risk of collisions and losing control of the vehicle when driving and talking on the phone simultaneously, despite sometimes using bands-free systems. When the mobile phone has brought considerable convenience, people's obsession with convenience has meanwhile caused enormous disturbance. That's why the use of mobile phones has been prohibited in many public places, such as libraries, theaters, hospitals and even transports, such as trains, buses and aircrafts. Speaking at increased volume is considered impolite or even offensive, In schools, students are required to switch off cell phones before the class begins because mobile phones are responsible for a high amount of class disruptions. When its downside persists, the mobile phone has proven indispensable in modern life. It is handheld, lightweight, portable and multi-functioned, allowing users to send text messages, exchange music files, make voice calls, browse Internet, and so forth. Meanwhile, within twenty years, mobile phones are expected to be more pervasive as technical advances and mass manufacture will make them low-cost personal items. Given those factors, the mobile phone will continue to perform its role as a key social tool, by which one keeps in touch with others much more easily than did the generations before. As suggested above, the contribution of the mobile phone to the society is prominent and people's dependence on it for communication is an irreversible trend, although it has a number of problems that should be well handled.Topic 03:In the history of mankind, possibly no century witnessed more progress in technology than the 20th century did. People have become increasingly interested in assessing the correlation between technological development and leisure time. As far as I am concerned, people's leisure time has been shrinking as a result of the tremendous advance in modern technology. Admittedly, thanks to modern technology, people can thus spend lesstime on compulsory activities (e.g. ,working), but it should also be noted that other non-compulsory activities have come to consume a larger proportion of people's after-work life, such as education. If leisure refers to the time spent in non-compulsory activities, people's leisure time has in fact contracted. The growing concern on education has increased the likelihood that people are willing to give up their leisure lives for educational opportunities. This trend is attributed mainly to competition and fears of job loss, causing people to turn to on-the-job training and education for secured employment. Another incentive is the increasing flexibility of educational institutions. Worthwhile knowledge can be passed on from one generation of workers to another in different forms of education, such as televised teaching and online courses. It comes at the cost of their leisure time.People's leisure lives are continuously eroded also because of ubiquity of modern technological tools (puters with Internet access and telecommunications equipment). It is noteworthy that people now take fewer and shorter vacations following the increase in the number of technology-based activities. For example, cell phones and laptops make people accessible to their superiors wherever they go and wherever they are. People are more stressed than any generation before. Meanwhile, people now have to engage in more everyday processes than ever before, such as shopping, food ordering, and so on. It seems that the time budget is burdened because more time should be invested in activities that were previously ignored or unnoticed. While posing a threat on people's leisure lives, technologies might on other occasions, give workers more flexibility in controlling their work and more quality time after work. A traditional workweek has been cut, as the amount of manual work continues to decline because of automation. The availability of various means of transport has released working people from lengthy commutes. The line between work *and private life is much more blurred, with many workers shopping, checking private emails and reading newspaper online even when working. From what has been discussed, one understands that the development of technology has tremendous impacts on people's daily lives, although the exact impacts are not conclusive. When the proliferation of new technologies, such as computers, allows people to manage their own working time and accommodate family needs and lifestyle choices, it has locked them in a struggle to cope with more tasks in daily lives.Topic 04: Not surprisingly, many aspects of people's daily lives have undergone considerable changes because of the recent development in technology. It is a particular concern that the pace of everyday life is becoming faster, resulting from the development in cars, air travel, telecommunications technology and the Internet. As well as benefits, this trend is to bring problems. On the positive side, the fast rhythm of life requires people to enhance efficiency when working and then allows them to enjoy longer leisure time. With the advance in telecommunications people can make inquires by phone, instead of traveling long distances, Internet access makes it possible (for one to perform various tasks without leaving their offices. Even though people have to travel every now and then, for meeting business partners, visiting clients in other cities or other purposes, modem transport networks reduce the amount of time they spend on commutes. The acceleration of the pace of life also implies the expansion of people's social circle. In the past, social relationships were limited by physical factors such as geographical distance and low mobility, but nowadays, one can travel further and get acquainted with more people with those technological advances, such as the railroad, the automobile and the telephone. For instance, the rapid penetration of telecommunications technology has made the mobile phone a key social tool and people rely on their mobile phone address book to keep in touch with their friends. On the negative side, the fast-paced lifestyle is responsible for the upsurge in lifestyle-related problems. Jobs become demanding and require workers' full commitment, resulting in their depression and pressure. Underneath the facade of continued contraction of official working hours, employees are actually working longer, primarily because fax, e-mail or other communication devices have made them accessible to their supervisors, colleagues and customers after work. They have to respond instantly to voice and email messages from others. Private life has to be sacrificed.According to the facts outlined above, the doubts about the negative effects of the acceleration of pace of life are not well-grounded. People now enjoy greater well-being, which is reflected in more quality family time, less travel-related stress and close contact with friends and family members. However, they might have to accept frequent intrusions as a by-product of convenient communication.Topic 05: With the wide use of the Internet, the way people conduct business and live their lives has vastly changed. Many businesses have websites that allow people to conduct business, execute deals and finish transactions online, as an alternative to a lengthy commute. Although people are thus free from the constraints of geography and time, there are some consequences of this trend that demand attention.Supposedly, with Internet access, people are able to perform transactions and to do shopping without leaving home, but meanwhile they have to pay a heavy price for it. One of the most negative aspects is, for instance, that it alters their social behaviours and habits. For many people, to spend part of the day on the Internet is quite normal. It can be expected that being addicted to Internet use, most of home telecommuters or Internet users will become socially isolated. Poor social life and feelings of loneliness are those problems that are very often found among heavy users. It is also likely that people have become increasingly accustomed to living in a world that appreciates convenience and inactivity and they do not want to evade those maxims. It gives explanation of why the sedentary lifestyle is now prevailing and why people spend little time on leisure or recreational activities. Time has been spent in front of the computer or Internet. The net result is that they suffer serious loss of vision, back pain and obesity. It is true that many people finally end up with struggling with deteriorating health.Despite the negative effects, the Internet has its positive implications to the well-being of society. Online shoppers are able to seek out the lowest prices for items or services. Manufacturers, therefore, have to improve product quality and lower price levels in an effort to win the favour of consumers and secure a stable market share. Telecommuting-working at home using a computer is a solution to traffic congestion, the urban air pollution and petrol use.As outlined above, people's growing obsession with Internet use, such as online shopping or banking, has both immediate and long-term impacts on health, social involvement, lifestyles and emotional well-being. Although it is of great value from a net surfer's perspective, people should step up efforts to minimize the negative effects.Topic 06: The spread of telecommunication technology---using the Internet, telephone, fax, scanners or text messaging---has opened up a new range of possibilities for working at home, Discussion has cantred on whether it represents a benefit to workers alone, but not employers. In my opinion, employers can take full advantage of home working as well.By allowing employees to work at home, employers can widen the base from which they recruit and boost the chances of capitalizing on rich human capital. For instance, parents with childcare responsibilities and those with disabilities prefer to work at home. Distance between their work place and their place of residence has never ceased to be a problem. Homeworking enables working people to perform their jobs at ease, and thus gives employers more options in human resource use.Another benefit obtained from home-working is the boost for staff motivation. By working at home, employees can manage their time on their own and strike a balance between work and rest Similarly important is that, without the presence of their immediate supervisors, they feel less stressful and more comfortable. Those two factors both play a part in boosting their productivity and job satisfaction.Apart from those benefits, homeworking might have its drawbacks. A challenge that employers have to face is the difficulty in managing and monitoring employees' performance. Whether employees are as likely to meet a deadline when working at home as they are in the workplace remains unclear. Similarly difficult is to maintain team spirit because employees have limited interaction between each other. Furthermore, stall training, an integral part of increasing human capital, is not practical in a business where homeworking predominates. Therefore, it is clear that although employers can benefit a lot from integrating homeworking into his or her business, e.g. , introducing more flexibility and increasing employees' job satisfaction, they should work out methods to prevent the problems that are likely to arise from this move.Topic 07:Text messages, emails and letters are everyday communication tools, although nowadays, text messages and emails appear to gain popularity while letters are used less frequently. The fears that writing skills will be attached with less importance are rooted mainly in the concern that the growing popularity of mobile phones and computers is about to make emails and text messaging much more popular. Such worries are unsupported.A majority of daily communications involve written correspondence, whether it takes the form of emails or letters. As different from communicating in speech, communicating in writing requires a large number of techniques. The prevalence of emails and text messages will not change the purposes, contents and conventions of communication, but merely medium, font or sentence length. For example, successful written communications are normally measured, by clarity and accuracy, two elements that remain unchanged despite the upsurge in the use of text messages and emails. An email or text message sender shouldpay the same attention to such elements as vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, wording and tone as a letter writer does in order to make sure that the reader understands and interprets the message as intended. Any misunderstanding or misinterpretation will cause dire consequences.Another fact to note is that all communication is interpersonal and interactive, thereby requiring information senders to use language properly and convey messages clearly and precisely. In order to become a successful communicator, one should plan, tailor, and devise his or her writing according to the characteristics of the reader. Writing a message without considering the intended reader will increase the possibility of poor understanding or even misunderstanding. For example, choosing the right tone in communication is of great importance. Readers make assumptions about people's mood and intentions and speculate on the implied meaning of the messages, according to the tone suggested by words. Getting the right tone is therefore an important writing skill that is likely to influence the success of communication. It is particularly true in cases where the messages people send contain emotional components. Failure to manipulate these components properly will cause discomfort or hard feelings of the reader. The examples that are outlined above have apparently overturned the prevailing notion that writing skills will vanish sooner or later as a result of the increased use of text messaging and emails. Written communication requires a good understanding of the rules of language, such as grammar, vocabulary and tone. Without a good command of those writing skills, a communicator will encounter many awkward situations in daily communication.Topic 08: Every item of property has its own lifespan. So does every building. City planners are very often confronted with a debate concealing whether an old building should be deconstructed or maintained. In my opinion, it depends on whether the targeted building can satisfy the needs of the city. There is no denying that some old buildings are of aesthetic, archaeological or architectural values. They might be either integral to a culture as a symbol of a city or country or unique in the domain of architecture. Demolition of such buildings will inflict damage to cultural heritage and prevent architects from drawing their inspiration from their predecessors. Because of their uniqueness, old buildings are very likely to provide a source of tourism income, if maintained well. It is fair to say that old buildings of this kind are much more important than any new building and performing more functions than any new building does. With regard to other old buildings, possessing no specific value while becoming dilapidated, entire destruction is an acceptable and understandable decision. Low in quality and poor in conditions, some old buildings are actually posing a danger on users and pedestrians. They might stand in the way of a new road line or impede other forms of urban development. Whether they have been renovated or not, these buildings blemish the landscape and provide no justification for continued maintenance. Replacing old buildings with new ones meets the renewed needs of the city.In summary, whether to conserve or pull down old buildings is a question that can only be answered on a case-by-case basis. People involved should carefully weigh up the pros and cons of new developments before reaching a conclusion.Topic 09: Museums have long been known as centers of research and education. By acquiring, conserving, researching and exhibiting a great variety of tangible items (such as artifacts and specimens ), museums are of great educational value. However, this notion has been refuted by some people in recent years, who tend to think that museums are intended for entertainment as well In my opinion, a museum can serve dual purposes, although education tends to play a larger part.Museums impart knowledge to visitors through different means. One is collecting and displaying objects of scientific, artistic or historical importance at a specific site. Staff members working for museums are trained to provide interpretations of the collected objects to the general public. Viewing these items enables visitors to acquire knowledge of a given subject, such as history, art, environment and technology. History museums are for example concerned with specialized aspects of history at the local or national level. Another approach taken by a museum Is to invite specialists to lecture regularly in different Fields, which is instructive as well. An entertainment business, by comparison, hardly serves an educational purpose. In addition to the way it operates, a museum is distinct from any operator in the entertainment industry in some other aspects. First of all, museums are entirely not-for-profit. Although sometimes charging an admission fee, a museum very often has free entrance, and does not engage in any profit-making activity. It does not target any specific audience like an entertainment business does. Instead, it is open to the general public. Museums, meanwhile, choose items on display not according to their commercial values but according to the line of items they mainly focus on. For instance, a history museum would focus only on those items that are of historical value, although those items might not have sufficient market value. However, a noteworthy development of museums in recent years is related to entertainment to some extent. Similar to other educational institutions, museums have to balance their budget. Many museums have therefore sought to operate more activities to attract more visitors, in order for an additional entry fee to cover costs. In addition to the traditional services, such as making collected objects available for public viewing, and organizing lectures, a museum is interested in such entertainments as films, musical or dance performances, most of which are linked to the culture of its host region. Art museums, for example, bear a close resemblance to art galleries, in exhibiting a wide range of artworks. Museums falling in this category give visitors pleasure, and can be taken as a provider of both knowledge and entertainment. As suggested above, there are many benchmarks against which a museum can be made distinct from an entertainment provider. Some museums are now providing services in overtly entertainment nature, although educational for the most part。

Task 2: In some countries, there are not enough medical and educational facilities in rural areas. Some people think new graduates who become doctors and teachers should be sent to work in rural areas for a few years. Others think it should be free for them to choose where they work. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.Introduction.In many parts of the world, the rural areas are facing a shortage of crucial resources like medical and educational facilities. The question of whether new graduates in the fields of medicine and teaching should be sent to rural areas for a few years or be given the freedom to choose their workplace has sparked a lively debate.Body Paragraph 1 The Case for Compulsory Rural Placement. On one hand, there are strong arguments in favor of sending new graduates to rural areas. Firstly, it's a matter of fairness and equality. Rural folks deserve access to proper medical treatment and quality education just as much as their urban counterparts. These fresh graduates can be the much needed injection of expertise. For example, a newly graduated doctor can set up basic medical services in a rural village, treat common diseases, and even start health education programs. Similarly, a new teacher can bring modern teaching methods and fresh knowledge torural students who may otherwise be left behind.Secondly, from the perspective of the graduates themselves, this experience can be a great character building and skill enhancing opportunity. Working in rural areas, where resources are scarce, forces them to be more creative and resourceful. They will learn to deal withvarious challenges that they may not encounter in urban, well equipped facilities. It's like a crash course in problem solving and adaptability.Body Paragraph 2 The Case for Free Choice. On the other hand, the idea of allowing new graduates to freely choose where they work also has its merits. For one thing, forcing someone to work in a particular place can lead to resentment and lack of motivation. If a new doctor really wants to work in a big city hospital to specialize in a particular field, being sent to a rural area against their will might make them unhappy and less productive. Moreover, in a free market like situation, people tend to go where they think they can grow professionally. Big cities usually offer more opportunities for further training, research, and collaboration. For instance, a teacher might be interested in attending educational seminars and workshops that are mostly held in urban centers. Also, a doctor maywant to be part of a large medical research project that is only availablein a city hospital. My Opinion. In my view, a balanced approach would be the best solution. There could be an incentive based system rather than a compulsory one. For example, the government could offer attractive perks to graduates who choose to work in rural areas, such as student loan forgiveness, higher salaries, and more opportunities for rapid career advancement. This way, it gives graduates a real choice, but also makes rural areas more appealing. At the same time, those who are really passionate about rural development can freely go there, and those who need more urban based opportunities can also pursue their dreams without being forced into an unwanted situation.Conclusion.In conclusion, while the need to improve medical and educational facilities in rural areas is urgent, we should also respect the rights and career aspirations of new graduates. A well thought out incentive based approach can bridge the gap between these two seemingly opposing views and contribute to the overall development of both rural and urban areas.。

Well, in my humble opinion, the idea that modern technology like social media and smartphones have a negative impact on human relationships is both right and wrong, it's a bit of a mixed bag really. On one hand, I can see why some people think it's bad. Take social media for example. People are often so glued to their screens, scrolling through Facebook or Instagram, that they seem to forget the real people around them. I've been to family gatherings where instead of chatting and having a good time together, everyone is just buried in their smartphones, liking pictures and posting comments. It's like we're all in the same room physically, but miles apart in terms of actual connection. And don't even get me started on how people can be really mean on social media sometimes. Cyberbullying is a real thing, and it can seriously damage someone's self esteem and their relationships with others.Another thing is that when we communicate through smartphones, we might lose some of the nuances of face to face interaction. You know, things like body language and tone of voice. A simple text message can be misinterpreted so easily. I remember once I sent a text to my friend that was meant to be a joke, but she took it the wrong way and we had a bit of an argument over it. If we were talking in person, that probably wouldn't have happened. However, on the flip side, modern technology also has its perks when it comes to relationships. Long distance relationships, for instance, would be a real pain without smartphones and video call apps like Skype or Facetime.I have a friend who's studying abroad, and thanks to these technologies, she can still stay in touch with her family and friends back home as if they were just next door. It allows her to see their faces, share her experiences, and maintain those important bonds. Also, social media can be a great way to meet new people and expand our social circles. There are all kinds of groups and communities on platforms like Facebook where people with similar interests can come together. I'm part of a book reading group on Facebook, and I've made some really good friends through it. We started by just chatting about books, but now we also meet up in person from time to time.So all in all, I don't fully agree that modern technology has a solely negative impact on relationships. It's more like a double edged sword. If we use it sensibly, it can enhance our relationships rather than harm them. But if we let it take over our lives and forget about the real world interactions, then yeah, it can be a bit of a relationship wrecker. Well, let's take a look at this bar graph. It's like a little window into how different age groups get around town.Starting with the 18 25 year olds, they seem to be quite the public transport users. The bar for them is pretty high, which means they use public transport a fair bit. I guess this could be because a lot of themare students or just starting out in their careers and might not have the money for a car yet, or they're more environmentally conscious and like to take the bus or the train. Then we've got the 26 35 year olds. Their bar is a bit shorter than the younger group. Maybe at this age, some of them have started to earn a bit more money and are thinking about getting their own cars or they have more flexible work arrangements that don't require them to rely so much onpublic transport. The 36 45 year olds' bar is even lower. I can't help but think that at this stage in life, they might be more likely to carpool with colleagues if they're going to work, or they have family commitments that make using a private vehicle more convenient. Now, the 46 55 year olds. Their usage of public transport is really low. It's like they've almost given up on it completely. I suppose they might have achieved a certain level of financial stability and prefer the comfort and convenience of their own cars. Finally, the 55 plus age group. Their bar is also quite short. Some of them might be retired and not have as many regular trips to make, or they might be more reliant on family members for transport rather than using public transport.Overall, it's clear from this bar graph that there are some big differences in how often different age groups use public transport. Younger people seem to be the most frequent users, while the older age groups tendto use it less and less as they get older.。

The notion of planning before the construction of a city is not restricted to the ancient but also popular in modern times. It is suggested that public outdoor space and other community facilities should be given more emphasis than shopping precinct. Personally, although establishing shopping areas is valuable, I would argue that it is the public areas and facilities should be given the priority.
It is quite understandable that shopping malls are of a degree of importance in the master plan of a city. It is because shopping is a necessity for residents, which means that the location should be
considered carefully. With more shopping complex constructed in urban areas, people could save travelling time, meet basic daily needs and gain time to be entertained. Another benefit of commercial areas probably is its contribution to local economy. A typical example could be Westfield Mall in London, which possesses arrays of stores and brands, not only providing a popular place for people to go on weekends but also offering more job vacancies.
However, I argue that public outdoor space and facilities are of higher value. For one thing, parks provide a pleasant and sociable place to live. Green space and fresh air can be created for people to experience the nature and escape from cold concrete buildings and exhaust fumes. Parks can also be used as open-air classrooms and laboratories for school children, and as social areas for resident to spend time communicating, enabling inhabitants to be more familiar with neighbours and contributing a sense of community. For another, sports facilities, such as ball fields, basketball and tennis courts, supply exposure to and opportunities to a wide range of physical activities. For citizens, particularly people of low income, affordable and accessible sports facilities might be an introduction to organized sports and cultivate the habit of doing sports or exercises.
In conclusion, while to a certain extent I understand the demand for commercial areas when planning a town, I claim that parks and places for health and fitness activities are of more importance.。
