I wouldn’t say that my sister Thika and I were particularly close. I was the naive little one, while she appeared to me to be walking on water—She was literally the symbol of perfection, and I wanted to be just like her. If she wore her hair in twin ponytails with a blue clip one day, I would do the same with mine the following day. I used to follow her and her friends around and beg to be included, but a thirteenyearold’s life doesn’t really have much space for a bother so me te nyearold sister. Over time, my admiration for her turned into indifference. Living in the same apartment as strangers, we shared meals but barely spoke to one another.I was so unconcerned when she informed me last year that she would be spending eight mon ths studying abroad in Lisbon, Portugal. I assumed I’d get to use her CD player and wear the dresses she left behind. That was the only way I thought her leaving would affect me.I sat in my room that first evening after she departed and tried to finish my assignment. I couldn’t get rid of the feeling that something was wrong, something was missing. The apartment was far too silent. Both Thika’s CD player and her voice giggling on the phone with her friends were absent. As I sat there, I became acutely awar e of how different life was without her. Even though we didn’t always talk, just having her there made me feel secure.I sobbed that evening. We wasted years trying to live our own lives and overlooking each other’s, and that made my heart ache. I sobbed t hat I did not evengive her a hug before she boarded her plane. But as the night went on, my sobs turned into tears of peace, tears of new beginnings.

“Oh, Mary?” A nurse answered. “She’s one of the nicest patients we’ve had.” Then she directed us to the waiting room and told us that only two of us were permitted to go into the ward(病房) at a time to say goodbye to Grandma before she went in for surgery.
When I was going into sixth grade, we were told that Grandma only had 2% heart function. Her heart wasn’t benefiting her anymore, but she found out that there was a way to live longer: an IVAD. It is a heart pump (起搏器) that replaces the heart, basically, a battery instead of a heart and it’s connected to a battery pack by a tube that comes out of the side. Grandma would become a robot with no heart! The Toledo Hospital near us that could do this surgery, offered to do it for Grandma. She, obviously, agreed.

Para 1. Shawn was very worried and asked them what had happened. There wasn't enough food in this ditch any more after a storm. They were too weak and too slow to find enough for all of them to eat. They badly needed Shawn's help. Even though they had asked him to leave the ditch, it was only because of his selfish actions. Shawn felt ashamed of his behavior in the past, and regretted leaving them. He thought about what he could do carefully and found what the right thing to do would be.
After some time, the snails in the ditch couldn't bear it. "Shawn!Stop eating so much before we can have our helping,"cried Blaine. “Yeah,Shawn!”"agreed Susan.“You don't have to keep reminding us about how slow we are."

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher encouraged me to enter for a writing contest. I did not love writing and my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of theTitanic as an oral report — a oneact play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he.So, why to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. And if you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.”I chose Paul Reve re’s horse as my subject. The story would e straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant notion/ idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice. What did the horse think, as he ripped/ got through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. Igot tired.I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s fabled/ imaginary horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. With a dictionary. I enlisted/ asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a halfdozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them. When I handed in the finished essay, my teacher read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again. And no name. Entries are anonym ous(匿名的).” I wrote it again. And again and again. If I didn’t win, I didn’t care. children begged for Daisy.“No!-No!-No! " they dashed to Daisy and threw their arms around her, begging, “ Please, mother! We would rather go hungry than lose her! "Hearing this, Mrs. Grant was in great sorrow, her heart bleeding. From somewhere, an inner voice said, “Go and see Jeff and bring him the chair to repair. Go right now." It was such a strong impulse(突如其来的念头)that I hurriedly dressed and lugged (用力拖) a dining-room chair to his door. Jeff was a neighbor who had lost his wife a while back, and he occasionally did minor repairs for me on furniture because he enjoyed working with his hands. I knocked on his door and waited a while. I was about to walk away when he answered. He looked like he was far away in his thoughts. I felt awkward about disturbing (打扰) him so early. I greeted him and then asked if he could repair my chair. He invited me inside. We sat in his living room. He looked depressed and not his usual self.He said he had had a stroke(中风) recently, and while he was home now, he still needed to attend outpatient physical therapy(门诊理疗). He had to build his strength back up. I apologized for the chair and told him, under the circumstances, I would just bring it back home. He said to leave it. We talked for a while. It had scared him to be in the hospital. He hadn't been there since his wife had died. Having worked as a mental health therapist, I listened to how hard it had been since his wife passed away and how much worse it was now since the stroke. The longer we talked, the more I saw his mood lighten. We even started talking about his diet and how he had not been eating. He said the dietician had told him to eat more fruits and vegetables, but he didn't care for them. Mostly, I was concerned because he was not eating much at all. I stayed talking with him until I saw his mood lift and the tension leave his face.注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 After I left his home, I went to the grocery store and gathered ingredients.___ The next time I saw him, he said the dish was wonderful.____________________________________________________

The four mountain climbers were still breathing heavily as they looked out into the distance. The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking. In all directions, valleys, forests and other mountains were laid out before them. They could even see the small wooden houses of the village where they had spent the night and the route they had taken to reach the top of this small but dangerous mountain. Laughing loudly, they were surprised at their courage in climbing such a steep and rocky mountain slope. Filled with an enormous sense of achievement, the four young climbers patted each other on the back.As the other three continued to enjoy the views, Jason, the leader of the group, stared at the horizon with a troubled look on his face.“What is it, Jason?” Sofia, the youngest of the group, asked.“Those dark clouds in the distance mean a heavy storm is fast on the way,” Jason replied. He remembered the villagers had warned him of the unpredictable weather conditions on top of the mountain and that a terrible storm could appear from nowhere.“But it's so warm and sunny here. I don't think the storm is coming this way,” Sofia said, more in hope than expectation. However, Jason feared the worst and knew only too well what would happen if the storm caught them in the open. He addressed the group in a calm but serious tone, “If the storm hits us, the temperature will fall dramatically. The rain and mist will make it difficult for us to see where we are going and we could easily get lost or fall off a cliff. The wind will take our strength, so we need to get moving fast.”The four mountain climbers packed up their facilities and immediately started back down the mountain. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the storm was upon them sooner than expected. The wind screamed in their ears, the driving rain stung (刺痛) their eyes and the mist made it impossible for them to see clearly.

The bell’s ringing brought her out of her daydreaming. She nervously gathered her books, preparing to reach another classroom for the next new class.Mia followed the other kids and rushed into the hallway. Others walked in groups, chatted, and laughed, using the break to socialize. Mia, instead, walked alone along the wall of the hallway, with her head down. She was a shy girl, afraid to speak in front of other kids, and didn’t think others would like her.Mia finally sat in Mr. Johnson’s Language Arts class nervously. “Welcome to Language Arts,” said Mr. Johnson. He told jokes as he talked about English. Mia forgot to daydream and laughed along with the rest of the class. “We’ll have some fun with language,”he said. “Just wait and see.”Fun was far beyond what Mia desired. She just wanted to be like other kids—running with friends in the hallway, laughing and joking between classes. Reminded of her pimply (长粉刺的)face, she felt hopeless and disappointed.“Take out a piece of paper,” the teacher continued, when point ing at words on the blackboard. “Write for the next thirty minutes on this topic.” Mia began writing crazily as idea after idea fought for recognition in her head. The final result was a short story about a beautiful beach house. As she wrote, she could smell the salty air, hear the crashing waves and feel the pullof the sand beneath her feet. For just a moment, she forgot where she was. She was lost in the story.“OK, pass your papers forward,” said the teacher. “Let’s see what we have.” For the rest of the class time, the teacher read each individual work aloud. Mia originally thought it would be awkward. However, she was gradually attracted by the excitement in the teacher’s voice. “He’s actually enjoying this,” she thought. When the class would be soon over, there were still fifteen students’ papers not read, including Mia’s paper. Then, Mr. Johnson announced his decision, asking these students to read their work themselves in front of the class next class.【辽宁省名校联盟2022年高三9月份联合考试】注意:1.
