Description
First of all, let’s check out this picture. We can see a human brain, right?
However, if we take a closer look at it, we can see this brain is actually made up of many many hands that grabbed each other tightly.
Meaning
At first sight, I think these hands refer to others’ viewpoints and this human brain refers to a person’s mind that has been preoccupied by others’ judgments or prejudice. So I come up with a concept, “preoccupation of mind”, which means people rely partially or even wholly on viewpoints from others, especially authorizations.
Thinking
I have heard about an interesting experiment. Some psychologists gave two pieces of news to two different groups. This two pieces of news are reporting on the very same thing, but from different standpoints. Having finished reading, the participants were asked their opinions towards this affair. And it came out that people tended to hold similar viewpoints as the news they have read.
And let’s look at some interesting examples in our life. Why are we scared of people from Xinjiang? Are those so-called bad guys in our textbooks really bad? And now think of the way you get to know about your favourite stars. It’s hard to know them directly of course. But during this process, have you add some judgments from media or their fans?
The reason I present this picture is that I hope we can cultivate the ability to think independently and thoroughly, without being preoccupied by someone else’s viewpoints. We can see in China that civilians are inclined to be misled and have some irrational actions. If the society was left with only a few opinion leaders, it would be totally a misery.
