2021-2021学年人教版高中英语必修五同步练习:Unit3Lifein thefutureWor

Unit 3Life in the future【导语】未来对于我们每一个人来说都充满了神秘。

如果我们能够预知未来那将是多么奇妙的事,这应该是我们每一个人都很向往的事情。

我们能否做到呢?It's impossible to know the future. We can guess, but no one has actual knowledge of what's going to happen down the road. But if you're someone who trusts her/his feelings, you're more likely to accurately predict future events than people who don't trust their feelings as much. That's the conclusion of a recent study done by researchers at Columbia Business School.Through a series of eight studies they found that subjects who had a high amount of trust in their feelings were generally better able to predict things like the outcomes of presidential elections, football games, the winner of American Idol, and even the weather. How is this possible, you ask?The best explanation is known as the“privileged window〞hypothesis. The gist is that when we rely on feelings to make a prediction,we're really summarizing and calling on everything we know ab's similar to what journalist Malcolm Gladwell wrote about in his best-selling book Blink that the more we know about something the greater our ability to make snap judgments and predictionswithout thinking too much.Unlike Gladwell's theory, though, the recent study is less about snap decisions and more about consciously deciding to rely on feelings to make predictions.Do that, and you're more likely to be able to sense what may happen in the future.【词海拾贝】1.accurately ad v.正确无误地,准确地;准确地2.predict v t.预言,预测3.presidential adj.总统的,首长的4.privilege v t.给予……特权5.hypothesis n.假说,假设;猜测,猜测6.gist n.(……之)要点,主旨,梗概,要义7.snap adj.容易的;仓促的8.consciously ad v.有意识地;自觉地【问题思考】1.Under what condition, are you more likely to predict future events according to the study?(no more than 10 words)_______________________________________________________ 答案:If you are someone who trusts her/his feelings.2.According to the studies, list the things mentioned in the passage those who trust their feelings can predict.(no more than 18 words)_______________________________________________________ 答案:The outcomes of presidential elections, football games, the winner of American Idol, and even the weather.3.What kind of result can we get according to the book Blink?(no more than 20 words)_______________________________________________________ 答案:The more we know about something the greater our ability to make snap judgments and predictions without thinking too much.Ⅰ.为单词选择正确的释义1.constant A.先前的;早先的2.previous B.乘务员3.steward C.按,压;新闻4.press D.生态;生态学5.ecology E.原料;材料6.motivation F.动机7.material G.贪吃的;贪心的8.greedy H.时常发生的答案:Ⅱ.根据所给汉语提示写出单词1.________n.通路;开口2.________ad v.往一侧;侧着3.________n.周围的事物;环境4.________n.调整;调节5.________n.面具;面罩6.________n.运输工具;四轮马车7.________v t.&v i.(使)闪光;(使)闪现8.________n.开关;转换v t.转换9.________n.沙漠;荒原10.________n.市民;公民答案:4.adjustmentⅢ.根据英语释义写出单词1.________:particular part or feature of sth being considered 2.________:go with sb and show the way to a place3.________:allow sth that one dislikes or disagrees with withoutinterfering4.________:be without sth;have less than enough of5.________:secure or fix sth firmly6.________:give or send out a brief bright light7.________:feeling doubt about sth not clear,definite8.________:an idea,a feeling or an opinion that you get aboutsb/sth答案:6.flashⅣ.选用短语的适当形式填空1.I watched the plane go higher and higher until I ________ it.答案:lost sight of2.The film ________ me ________ what I had seen in the United States.答案:reminded of3.Jane ________ the bits of paper and broken glass when wecame in.答案:was sweeping up4.The mouse ________ its hole.答案:slid into5.She ________ the piano when she was five.答案:took up6.To ________,he does exercise very often.答案:be back on his feetⅤ.领会句子所用的句型并译成汉语1.Worried_about_the_journey,I was unsettled for the first few days._______________________________________________________ 答案:我很担忧这次旅行,所以头几天我心里总是不踏实。

2021-2022学年高中英语人教版必修五练习:Unit 3 课时跟踪练(一) Word版含解析

课时跟踪练(一)Section ⅠWarming Up & Reading — Pre-reading Ⅰ.阅读理解AThe year is 2094. It has been announced that a comet (彗星) is heading towards the Earth. Most of it will miss our planet, but two pieces will probably hit the southern half of the Earth. On 17 July, a piece four kilometers wide enters the Earth's atmosphere with a massive explosion. About half of the piece is destroyed, but the remaining part hits the South Atlantic at 200 times the speed of sound. The sea boils and a huge hole is made in the sea bed. Huge waves are created and spread outwards from the hole. The wall of water, a kilometer high, rushes towards southern Africa at 800 kilometers an hour. Cities on the African coast are totally destroyed and millions of people are drowned. Before the waves reach South America, the second piece of the comet lands in Argentina. Earthquakes and volcanoes are set off in the Andes Mountains. The shock waves move north into California and all around the Pacific Ocean. The cities of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Tokyo are completely destroyed by earthquakes. Millions of people in the southern half of the earth are already dead, but the north won't escape for long. Because of the explosions, the sun is hidden by clouds of dust, and temperatures around the world fall to almost zero. Crops are ruined. The sun won't be seen again for many years. Wars break out as countries fight for food. A year later, no more than 10 million people remain alive.Could it really happen? In fact, it has already happened more than once in the history of the Earth. The dinosaurs were on the Earth for over 160 million years. Then about 65 million years ago they suddenly disappeared. Many scientists believe that the Earth was hit by a piece of object in space. The dinosaurs couldn't live through the cold climate that followed and they died out. Will we meet the same end?语篇解读:文章主要描述了2094年假如一颗彗星的碎片撞向地球,人类可能面临终结。

Every single day, about 4,000kids between the ages of 12 and 17 start smoking. Most junior school students don’t smoke-only about 1 in 10 does. Most senior school students don’t smoke either -about 1 in 4 does. But why do those who smoke ever begin? There’s more than just one simple answer. Some kids may startsmoking just because they’re curious. Others may like the idea of doing something that grown-ups don’t want them to do. Still others might think smoking is a way to act or smoking makes them look like an adult.Luckily, fewer people are starting to smoke than a few years ago. Maybe that’s because more and more people have learned that smoking can cause cancer and heart disease. Sometimes kids don’t worry about what future illness they might get.Nicotine and other poisonous chemicals in tobacco cause lots of diseases, like heart problems and some kinds of cancer. If kids smoke, it will hurt their lungs and hearts each time they light up. It can also make it more difficult for blood to flow in the body, so smokers may feel tired. The longer they smoke, the worse the damage becomes. The human body is smart, and it knows when it’s being poisoned. When kids try smoking for the first time, they often cough a lot and feel pain or burnt in their throats and lungs. This is their lungs’ way of trying to protect them. Also, many kids say that they feel sick to their stomachs or课时训练2Section ⅢLearning about Language & Using LanguageⅠ.品句填词1.The origins of the ________(宇宙)are still a mystery.2.The May 4th ________(运动) of 1919 is very important in the history of China.3.Our teacher tells us that exercise ________(有助于)to good health.4.Several ________(热情的) young teachers have just started working at the school.5.She’s got a really ________(积极的)attitude to life.6.When her husband left home she felt ________(抛弃)and useless.Ⅱ.选词填空reject;be strict with;enthusiastic;make sense of;make sense;cautious1.I can’t ____________________this poem, but perhaps I will if I read it again.2.Although I ____________________ by the university, I didn’t lose heart.3.As she ____________ very __________________ her children, they developed a good studying habit.4.Only after finishing reading the passage can you find it ____________________.5.With so many people watching him, Jim was very ________________.6. time.Studies are moving closer to designing robots that could do dangerous work, create prosthetic limbs(假肢)for humans that work much better than in the past,or even help some people who use wheelchairs to get“walking”abilities.“Researchers have been working toward robot movement for a long time,”said Jonathan Hurst,a professor at OSU.“What we’ve done is to study what behavior is really possible for a robot.”The movement of humans and other animals is difficult to ing little energy, they can move easily over hard areas, and enjoy balance from muscles(肌肉).They have different ways to deal with forces, such as holding something hard in place rigidly(牢牢地),like the act of holding a cup of coffee level during a car ride.In their recent studies, the OSU researchers proved that these two_abilities are mutually exclusive(相互排斥的).Humans deal with this problem by using pairs of muscles. For a robot, the more it’s able to do one of these tasks, the less able it is to do the It is the longest river in the world and flows about 6,677 km through Eastern Africa from its most remote sources in Burundi to a delta on the Mediterranean Sea in Northeast Egypt. The main headstreams, the Blue Nile and the White Nile, join at Khartoum in Sudan to form the Nile proper. The river has been used for irrigation in Egypt since at least 4000 B. C., a function now regulated largely by the Aswan High Dam.The source of the Nile and its life-giving flood were a mystery to the people of the world for centuries. First, Ptolemy held that the source was the “Mountain of the Moon”, and the search for the origin of the Nile attracted much attention of the people in the 18th and 19th centuries. Then James Bruce, the Scottish explorer, went to look for the source and identified Lake Jana as the source of the Blue Nile in 1770. And later, John Spike, the British explorer, went to search for the source of another branch of the Nile. He is credited with the identification of Lake Victoria and Ripon Falls as the source of the White Nile. Now the people along the Nile love it so much that they are trying all their best to protect it while they make good use of it for agriculture irrigation, industry and their daily life.课时训练4Section ⅢLearning about Language & Using LanguageⅠ.品句填词1.We were very busy so there was no time to go German battleship Bismarck, the most powerful warship in the world, was moving out into the Atlantic Ocean. Her task:to destroy the ships carrying supplies from the United States to war-torn England. The British had feared such a task.No warship they had could match the Bismarck in speed or in firepower. The Bismarck had eight 15-inch guns and 81 smaller guns. She could move at 30 nautical miles(海里)an hour. She was believed to be unsinkable. However, the British had to sink her. They sent out a task force headed by their best battleship Hood to hunt down the Bismarck. On May 24,the Hood found the Bismarck. It was a meeting that the German commander Luetjens did not want to see.His orders were to destroy the British ships that were carrying supplies, but to stay away from a fight with British warships. The battle didn’t last long. The Bismarck’s first torpedo(鱼雷)hit the Hood, which went down taking all but three of her 1,419 men with her.But in the fight, the Bismarck was slightly damaged. Her commander decided to run for repairs to France, which had at that time been taken by the Germans. The British force followed her. However, because of the Bismarck’s speed and the heavy fog, they lost sight of her.For two days, every British ship in the Atlantic tried to find the Bismarck, but with no success. Finally, she was sighted by a plane from Ireland.Trying to slow the Bismarck down so that their ships could catch up with her,the British fired at her from the air.The Bismarck was hit.On the morning of May 27,the last battle was fought.Four British ships fired on the Bismarck, and she was Every single day, about 4,000 kids between the ages of 12 and 17 start smoking. Most junior school students don’t smoke-only about 1 in 10 does. Most senior school students don’t smoke either -about 1 in 4 does. But why do those who smoke ever begin? There’s more than just one simple answer. Some kids may startsmoking just because they’re curious. Others may like the idea of doing something that grown-ups do n’t want them to do. When kids t ry smoking for the first time, they often cough a lot and feel pain or burnt in their throats and lungs. This is their lungs’ way of trying to protect them. time.Studies are moving closer to designing robots that could do dangerous work, create prosthetic limbs(假肢)for humans that work much better than in the past,or even help some people who use wheelchairs to get“walking”abilities.“Researchers have been working toward robot movement for a long time,”said Jonathan Hurst,a professor at OSU.“What we’ve done is to study what behavior is really possible for a robot.”The movement of humans and other animals is difficult to ing little energy, they can move easily over hard areas, and enjoy balance from muscles(肌肉).They have different ways to deal with forces, such as holding something hard in place rigidly(牢牢地),like the act of holding a cup of coffee level during a car ride.In their recent studies, the OSU researchers proved that these two_abilities are mutually exclusive(相互排斥的).Humans deal with this problem by using pairs of muscles. For a robot, the more it’s able to do one of these tasks, the less able it is to do the other.Presently, robots that can walk and run must be as rigid as possible while walking. But this way uses a lot of energy. The OSU researchers are working toward something that has similar or better performance, but uses far less energy, and is closer to the abilities of animals.“So there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to build robo ts with good movement ability,”Hurst said.“Clearly this might be useful in highly dangerous situations. But I could also see great improvements possible with prosthetic limbs that work much better than present technology.”1.The robots being studied by It is the longest river in the world and flows about 6,677 km through Eastern Africa from its most remote sources in Burundi to a delta on theMediterranean Sea in Northeast Egypt. The main headstreams, the Blue Nile and the White Nile, join at Khartoum in Sudan to form the Nile proper. The river has been used for irrigation in Egypt since at least 4000 B. C.,a function now regulated largely by the Aswan High Dam.The source of the Nile and its life-giving flood were a mystery to the people of the world for centuries. First, Ptolemy held that the source was the “Mountain of the Moon”,and the search for the origin of the Nile attracted much attention of the people in the 18th and 19th centuries. Now the people along the Nile love it so much that they are trying all their best to protect it while they make good use of it for agriculture irrigation, industry and their daily life.课时训练4Section ⅢLearning about Language & Using LanguageⅠ.品句填词1.We were very busy so there was no time to go 课时跟踪练(一) Warming Up & Reading — Pre readingⅠ.阅读理解AFirst aid is emergency care for a victim of sudden illness or injury until more skillful medical treatment is available. It may save a life. In many emergencies, first aid may prevent a victim's condition from turning worse and provide relief from pain. First aid must be administered as quickly as possible. In the case of the critically injured, a few minutes can make a difference.First-aid measures depend upon the victim's needs and the provider's level of knowledge and skill. Knowing what not to do in an emergency is as important as knowing what to do. Improperly moving a person with a neck injury, for example, can lead to permanent spinal (脊柱的) injury and paralysis (瘫痪).Despite the variety of injuries, several principles of first aid can apply to all emergencies. The first step is to call for professional medical help. The victim, if conscious, should be reassured that medical aid has been requested, and asked for permission to provide any first aid. Next, assess the scene, asking people around or the injured person's family or friends about details of the injury or illness, any care that may have already been given, and pre-existing conditions such as diabetes (糖尿病) or heart trouble. The victim should be checked for a medical card that describes special medical conditions. Unless the accident scene becomes unsafe or the victim may suffer further injury, do not move the victim.First aid requires rapid assessment of victims to determine whether life-threatening conditions exist. One method for evaluating a victim's condition is known as the acronym (首字母缩略词) ABC, which stands for:A—Airway: Is it open and clear?B—Breathing: Is the person breathing? Look, listen and feel for breathing.C—Circulation: Is there a pulse? Is the person bleeding externally? Check skin color and temperature for additional indications of circulation problems.语篇解读:本文主要讲的是急救的重要性以及如何实施急救。
