The synopsis of Cold Mountain

吴清20101310219 Class Two The touching story took place in a little town named Cold Mountain, which is located in the south of American. The local people had been living happily until a war, a famous war ---Civil War, broke up in the whole American. A beautiful girl called Ada Monroe, the daughter of a poster, who moved from Charleston to Cold Mountain, fell in love with a handsome and strong boy at the first sight. The boy was Inman, who wanted to be a soldier to realize his great dream, and when he saw Ada, he knew he would love her deeply in his life.

Ada left the small town with her piano, and she played it for Inman on the way when she saw he was working in the farm for a woman. Inman heard the beautiful sound in the field but could do nothing but to see her leave.

When most of the prominent people gathered in the poste r’s house to celebrate the new-built church, Inman also arrived at her house and watched her carefully and silently from the window in a rainy evening. At the same time, Ada noticed her lover and she made an excuse to meet him to have a talk with him. Although they met only about three times and never expressed their admiration, they loved deeply with each other as the saying goes, “so long as men can breathe or eyes can see, so long lives this, and this gives life to thee”. They all did it.

At the beginning of the war, all the adult men were forced to go to the war to protect their rights and their hometown, leaving the female and some senior men in this cold town. Inman was excited because he had the chance to gain the high honor for himself. When Inman stayed in a small hotel, Ada visited him and sent him a book to show her love. They had their first hug and kiss which became the most unforgettable and happiest moment for Inman and supported him in the following war.

When Inman had undergone some cruel battles, seen many his friends and other people died in this war and lived a hard and sad life in the army, he changed his mind and began to hate this war and wanted to go back to his hometown to see his lover. And, his intention became stronger and stronger day by day. Luckily, he got a little chance. One day, he got badly hurt in a battle. He though it was a good chance to leave the army, and he did it successfully. He met some people who had the same experiences on his way back to hometown. Unluckily they were grasped by the security guard. However, Inman and other people escaped from this danger in the end. After this dangerous experience, He met a lot of people having different goals, such as a beast who was finally killed by the southern soldiers, a man with his relatives, some beautiful women who were fond of tempting him and making sex with him, a pregnant woman who lead a poor life but was willing to help him and saved him
