# There are various measures that are effective in reducing crimes. To begin with, those who commit serious crimes should be strictly punished. This would have a deterrent effect on people who intend to commit crimes. They would consider the consequences of their behavior and give up their intention. Another measure is to

install more surveillance cameras on the street. These devices can monitor and improve the security in the community. Moreover, if people are more vigilant in their daily lives, such crimes as theft and fraud can be effectively prevented.

# However, some people believe that crimes cannot be eliminated, if we look into the underlying causes of this problem. For example, in many countries, the gap between the rich and poor is widening, which is responsible for many economic and violent crimes. Poor people may choose to steal or rob, because they think the gap is unjustified. In addition, studies show that a small portion of people

have anti-social personality due to their genes or the environment in which

they grow. It is difficult to identify these people and stop them from

committing crimes.
