3 things I learned while my planecrashed
3 things I learned while my plane crashed-----Ric Elias Excerpt from Ric Elias had a front-row seat on Flight 1549, the plane that crash-landed in the Hudson River in New York in January 2009. What went through his mind as the doomed plane went down? At TED, he tells his story publicly for the first time.Imagine a big explosion as you climb through 3,000 ft. Imagine a plane full of smoke. Imagine an engine going clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack, clack. It sounds scary. Well I had a unique seat that day. I was sitting in 1D. I was the only one who can talk to the flight attendants. So I looked at them right away, and they said, "No problem. We probably hit some birds." The pilot had already turned the plane around, and we weren't that far. You could see Manhattan. Two minutes later, 3 things happened at the same time. The pilot lines up the plane with the Hudson River. That's usually not the route. He turns off the engines. Now imagine being in a plane with no sound. And then he says 3 words-the most unemotional 3 words I've ever heard. He says, "Brace for impact." I didn't have to talk to the flight attendant anymore. I could see in her eyes, it was terror. Life was over. Now I want to share with you 3 things I learned about myself that day.I learned that it all changes in an instant. We have this bucket list, we have these things we want to do in life, and I thought about all the people I wanted to reach out to that I didn't, all the fences I wanted to mend, all the experiences I wanted to have and I never did. As I thought about that later on, I came up with a saying, which is, "collect bad wines". Because if the wine is ready and the person is there, I'm opening it. I no longer want to postpone anything in life. And that urgency, that purpose, has really changed my life. The second thing I learned that day - and this is as we clear the George Washington bridge, which was by not a lot - I thought about, wow, I really feel one real regret, I've lived a good life. In my own humanity and mistake, I've tired to get better at everything I tried. But in my humanity, I also allow my ego to get in. And I regretted the time I wasted on things that did not matter with people that matter. And I thought about my relationship with my wife, my friends, with people. And after, as I reflected on that, I decided to eliminate negative energy from my life. It's not perfect, but it's a lot better. I've not had a fight with my wife in 2 years. It feels great. I no longer try to be right; I choose to be happy. The third thing I learned - and this is as you mental clock starts going, "15, 14, 13." You can see the water coming. I'm saying, "Please blow up." I don't want this thing to break in 20 pieces like you've seen in those documentaries. And as we're coming down, I had a sense of, wow, dying is not scary. It's almost like we've been preparing for it our whole lives .But it was very sad. I didn't want to go. I love my life. And that sadness really framed in one thought, which is, I only wish for one thing. I only wish I could see my kids grow up. About a month later, I was at a performanceby my daughter - first-grade, not much artistic talent... yet. And I 'm balling, I'm crying, like a little kid. And it made all the sense in the world to me. I realized at that point by connecting those two dots, that the only thing that matters in my life is being a great dad. Above all, above all, the only goal I have in life is to be a good dad.I was given the gift of a miracle, of not dying that day. I was given another gift, which was to be able to see into the future and come back and live differently. I challenge you guys that are flying today, imagine the same thing happens on your plane - and please don't - but imagine, and how would you change? What would you get done that you're waiting to get done because you think you'll be here forever? How would you change your relationships and the negative energy in them? And more than anything, are you being the best parent you can?。

英语有趣的故事演讲5分钟篇一a few years ago, i felt like i was stuck in a rut, so i decided to follow in the footsteps of the great american philosopher, morgan spurlock, and try something new for 30 days. the idea is actually pretty simple. think about something you’ve always wanted to add to your life and try it for the next 30 days. it turns out, 30 days is just about the right amount of time to add a new habit or subtract a habit — like watching the news — from your life.
there’s a few things i learned while doing these 30-day challenges. the first was, instead of the months flying by, forgotten, the time was much more memorable. this was part of a challenge i did to take a picture everyday for a month. and i remember exactly where i was and what i was doing that day. i also noticed that as i started to do more and harder 30-day challenges, my self-confidence grew. i went from desk-dwelling computer nerd to the kind of guy who bikes to work — for fun. even last year, i ended up hiking up mt. kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in africa. i would never have been that adventurous before i started my 30-day challenges.当我在30天做这些挑战性事情时,我学到以下一些事。

高一下学期必修第二册英语三四单元的作文
高一下学期必修第二册英语三四单元的作文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Hi there! I'm an elementary school kid and I was asked to write about the English lessons in Units 3 and 4 for high school sophomores. It's a bit tricky since that stuff is pretty advanced for me, but I'll give it my best shot!Unit 3 is all about discussing dreams and goals. The readings talk about famous people like Abraham Lincoln and their inspirational life stories. There are lots of cool words to learn like "aspiration", "ambition", and "perseverance". I think it's really important to have big dreams and to work hard to achieve them, just like Honest Abe did when he became President despite growing up poor. The unit also teaches you how to write autobiographies and biographies. An autobiography is when you write about your own life, and a biography is when you write about someone else's life. I tried writing my own autobiography but it was pretty short since I'm just a kid and haven't done that much yet. MaybeI'll become a famous author one day and people will want to read all about my exciting life!In the listening exercises, there are recordings of people talking about their childhood dreams and how they actually turned out. Some ended up with the job they wanted as a kid, while others took an unexpected path in life. I enjoyed those because it reminds you that it's okay if your dreams change along the way. The most important thing is to never stop dreaming!Unit 4 is focused on advertising and consumer culture. They look at different types of ads in the textbook, like print ads, TV commercials, online videos, and more. The lessons teach you all the tricks companies use to persuade people to buy things, like celebrity endorsements, catchy slogans, and making products seem luxurious or prestigious. There are some funny examples of silly or far-fetched ads that make ridiculous claims. Like one for a magic powder that could turn you into a bodybuilder just by sprinkling it on your food! Or another ad for a pill to learn any language instantly while you sleep. Obviously those are just jokes to show how ads can sometimes exaggerate or mislead. My favorite part was analyzing advertisements to spot the persuasive techniques. It's like a game of "ad detective" where you have to figure out all the subtle ways they're trying to influence your thoughts and desires as a consumer. Knowing those secrets makes me feel like a smart shopper who can't be easily fooled. The unit also talks about bigger issues around media literacy, commercialism, and ethical advertising practices. Like whetherit's okay for companies to target kids with ads for unhealthy snacks or to make products seem cooler by putting cartoon characters on the packaging. Those are complicated topics that even adults have to think carefully about.Overall, Units 3 and 4 seem very interesting and educational. Unit 3 reminds you to dream big and work hard, while Unit 4 teaches you to be a more critical thinker as a consumer in our heavily marketed society. Maybe some of the specific lessons would go over my head at my age, but the core ideas are inspiring and useful for people of all ages.Writing this essay has been a fun challenge to explain concepts that are pretty advanced compared to the basic stuff I'm learning now. But trying my best is what really counts! Perhaps one day when I'm a high school sophomore, I'llunderstand these units even better. For now, I hope I was able to capture the main highlights in a kid-friendly way. Thanks for reading my essay!篇2My Awesome Adventure Exploring Space and TechnologyHi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 8 years old. Today I want to tell you all about the amazing things I learned in Units 3 and 4 of my big brother's English textbook. It was super cool and exciting! In Unit 3, we got to learn about space exploration and traveling to different planets. Can you imagine blasting off in a huge rocket ship and zooming through the galaxy? I drew a picture of myself as an astronaut walking on the moon. I even tried making a spaceship out of Legos but it kind of fell apart. Oops! There were lots of new words about space like "astronaut", "rocket", "orbit" and "gravity". Gravity is what keeps us from floating off into space, which would be fun for a little while but then we'd run out of snacks and oxygen. My favorite new word was "constellation" - that's a bunch of stars that make a picture in the night sky, like The Big Dipper! We learned that the first astronauts who went to the moon were very brave. Their rocket ships were pretty small inside with just enough room for supplies and instruments. I don't know if I'd be brave enough! What if you got stuck up there and couldn't make it back home? Unless you brought your favorite stuffed animal for a buddy, then maybe it wouldn't be so scary. In Unit 4, we studied all about modern technology and how it impacts our lives. It was mind-blowing to learn about computers, smartphones, robotics and artificial intelligence. Those smart robots can do so many things like help take care of people in hospitals and even vacuum your house for you! Maybe one day we'll have robot butlers to make our beds and bring us cookies and milk. That would be awesome. The internet is another big part of modern technology. It connects computer networks all around the world so we can share information in seconds. I like using the internet to watch videos of dogs and cats doing funny things. My dad says I shouldn't spend too much time online though, and that I need to go play outside more. Parents just don't understand! One downside of all this new technology is that it can be bad for the environment if we're not careful. Things like factories polluting the air and overfilling landfills with discardedelectronics and plastic waste. We all need to recycle and try to reduce our carbon footprints, whatever those are. I'm going to start by recycling all my juice boxes from now on!Overall, these units were so fascinating and I had a blast learning about space travel, modern inventions, and how they impact planet Earth both positively and negatively. I just hope by the time I'm a grown-up, science will have figured out teleportation so we can zoom around instantly. No more sitting in traffic or boring plane rides! Maybe I'll even get to be one of the first kids on Mars. A boy can dream, right? Okay, thanks for reading - time for me to go ride my bike!篇3My Big Book ReportHi everyone! My name is Timmy and I'm 10 years old. I just finished reading the Units 3 and 4 from my big brother's English textbook for high school. It was really hard but I worked super duper hard to understand it. I want to tell you all about what I read!Unit 3 was called "Health Matters" and it talked a lot about being healthy. The first part was about a girl named Lisa who was really stressed out from studying too much. She couldn't sleepwell and didn't have time to exercise or eat good foods. Her mom helped her make a schedule to get more rest and free time.I learned that it's important to take breaks and not just study all day and night. You have to balance work and fun! Then there was a really long reading about traditional Chinese medicine. It explained things like acupuncture where they stick needles in your skin. That sounds scary to me! But the reading said it can help with pain and other health problems. There was also stuff about using herbs and plants for medicine instead of pills from the drugstore. Some of those old remedies have been used for hundreds of years in China. Wild! The last part of Unit 3 had a story about a boy who got helped by a therapy dog at the hospital. Therapy dogs are special dogs that go to hospitals and nursing homes to cheer people up and make them feel better. The boy was afraid of having an operation but the dog named Rufus made him braver. Dogs really are a man's best friend!I didn't know much about health stuff before but now I understand why it's crucial to live a balanced lifestyle. Eat your veggies, exercise, get sleep, and find ways to de-stress. Oh and maybe add some magic herbs too according to that Chinese medicine reading! Taking care of your body is serious business.Okay, now let me tell you about Unit 4 which was called "Earth Alive." This whole unit was about environmental protection which is a very important topic. The first reading was about a teenager in Australia who didn't like seeing all the plastic trash in the ocean. So she started a organization to help clean up the beaches and oceans. She rallied a bunch of other kids to join her group and help pick up the litter. It made me feel bad about how me and my friends leave our snack wrappers on the ground at the park sometimes. We should follow that girl's example and stop littering. Then the unit had a long article about the negative impacts of pollution on the environment. There were some really shocking facts, like over 1 million plastic bottles are bought every minute across the world! And did you know that a normal plastic bottle can last for 450 years before it fully decomposes? That's older than America! The pollution is hurting a lot of animal species too. Some sea turtles are going extinct because they accidentally eat plastic bags thinking they are jellyfish. Reading stuff like that makes me sad but also motivates me to care more about environmental protection. The end of Unit 4 taught about renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and water power. Using those instead of gasoline, oil and coal can reduce air pollution and help fight climate change. My dad has some solar panels on our roof to generate clean electricity. The textbook said countries should invest more in green energy for a sustainable future. I agree 100%! We need to take better care of Mother Nature.Well, that's pretty much everything I learned from Units 3 and 4. This English book was pretty heavy... both the literal weight of the book and all the heavy topics it covered! But I'm glad I read it because now I know way more about healthy living and environmental protection. I'll try my best to put some of those lessons into practice, like spending more time outdoors, eating my broccoli, and not littering. Reading is knowledge!Welp, I should get going. Thanks for listening to me ramble about my big book report. I'll leave you with an inspiring quote I found in the textbook: "No one can do everything, but everyone can do something." Let's all do our small part to make the world a healthier, greener, cleaner place!篇4Unit 3 - Sharing This PlanetHi friends! Today I want to tell you all about unit 3 in my English textbook. This unit is super cool because it's all abouttaking care of the Earth and the environment. We learned a bunch of new words like "conserve", "renewable", and "contaminate". Those are some pretty big words but I'll try my best to explain what they mean!"Conserve" means to protect natural resources so they don't run out. Like when we turn off the lights when we leave a room, that conserves electricity. "Renewable" describes something that can be used over and over again without running out, like solar and wind power. And "contaminate" means to make something dirty or poison it. Factories that dump chemicals into rivers can contaminate the water and hurt the animals and plants living there. Yuck!We read a really interesting story about a teenage girl named Lin who started a campaign to clean up a polluted lake near her city. At first, nobody wanted to listen to her because she was just a kid. But Lin didn't give up! She made flyers, gave speeches, and organized volunteers to help remove the trash from the lake. Eventually, the government took notice and agreed to stop the factories from dumping their waste into the water. Now the lake is much cleaner and the fish and birds have returned. Lin showed that even kids can make a big difference when they work hard.My favorite part was when we had to come up with our own ideas for environmental projects we could do in our community. My group wanted to start a recycling program at our school to teach kids about reducing waste. We made a presentation about the benefits of recycling and even built a model recycling bin out of shoeboxes that we decorated. Our teacher was really impressed and said she would share our idea with the principal. Hopefully we can make it happen next year! This unit taught me that taking care of the planet is something we all need to work on together. Every small action counts, like using less plastic, planting trees, or just picking up litter when you see it on the ground. If we're not careful, the Earth could end up getting really sick from pollution and waste. That's why it's so important for everyone to do their part, even us kids! The planet is our home and we need to be good housemates by keeping it clean and green.Unit 4 - The Wonders of NatureOkay, time to move on to unit 4, which was all about the amazing plants and animals found in nature. We learned the difference between things that are "tame" and "wild". Tame creatures like dogs and horses have been domesticated by humans, which means we've trained them to live alongsidepeople. But wild animals like tigers, gorillas, and bears live freely in their natural habitats without any human interference. Habitats are the specific environments where plants and animals live, like a jungle, desert, or coral reef.We studied some of the most incredible habitats on Earth, like the Amazon rainforest. Did you know that the Amazon is home to about 2.5 million different species of insects? That's more bugs than there are people on the whole planet! The rainforest also has over 40,000 species of plants, including the world's largest flower called the Rafflesia which is three feet across. That thing is humongous! We saw pictures of it and it honestly looks more like a giant fungus than a flower. Super gross but also amazing.Speaking of amazing, we learned about some of the coolest animal characteristics in this unit too. Like how chameleons can change colors to camouflage themselves and become invisible to predators. Or how the pistol shrimp has one claw that can create a bubble so powerful, it stuns its prey with a loud "gun shot" noise. Crazy, right? My personal favorite was the frogfish, which is a master of disguise and can transform its body to look exactly like a sponge or chunk of coral. Then when anunsuspecting fish swims too close, CHOMP! The frogfish's huge mouth opens up and gobbles its meal whole. Sneaky little guy!For our final project, we had to pick an endangered species and create a poster to raise awareness about protecting its habitat. I chose the golden lion tamarin, which is a tiny monkey that only lives in a few small areas of the Brazilian rainforest. Deforestation from logging and farming has pushed these cute little guys to the brink of extinction. My poster showed their bright orange fur and puppy dog eyes to try and convince people to save them. I explained how losing even one species can really hurt the whole rainforest ecosystem. After all, every living thing plays an important role, even if it's just a tiny monkey!Overall, this unit reminded me how unbelievably cool, weird, and wonderful nature really is. There are so many bizarre plants and animals out there that seem almost alien compared to what we see in our everyday lives. It made me appreciate how lucky we are to live on a planet with such an abundance of life and biodiversity. The natural world is like one gigantic, real-life science museum full of amazing exhibits. We just have to be careful not to disrupt or destroy any of the displays through pollution, deforestation, and mistreating the environment.Because once those animals and habitats are gone, they're gone forever. And that would be an absolute tragedy for us all.篇5My Big Dreams for the FutureHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. My teacher asked us to write about our dreams and goals for the future. I'm so excited to share my big dreams with you!First off, I really want to be a doctor when I grow up. I know it's a lot of hard work, but I'm determined. Doctors get to help people every single day and make them feel better when they're sick or hurt. How amazing is that? I'll need to study tons at school, especially science subjects like biology. But I don't mind - I actually find that stuff super interesting, even though some of my friends think it's boring.I would love to be a pediatrician and take care of little kids. Playing with toys, giving stickers, and making the kids laugh would be the best part of the job. Though I'm not looking forward to giving shots - nobody likes needles! Still, I'll try my hardest to be a gentle, caring doctor that kids feel comfortable around.Another huge dream of mine is to travel all around the world. There are so many fascinating places I want to visit and explore. I'm dying to go on an African safari and see lions, elephants, and zebras up close in the wild. How cool would that be? I've also always wanted to walk along the Great Wall of China. Just imagining being able to say "I've been there!" gives me chills.Of course, I'll need to learn lots of different languages if I want to travel everywhere easily. I'm already trying to pick up Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese. Language learning is tricky but I'm sticking with it. Who knows, maybe I could be a doctor who speaks five languages and helps kids all over the globe! My final big dream is to write and illustrate my very own book someday. I love creative writing and doodling little characters. Holding a book that I made entirely myself would be a dream come true. It doesn't have to be super popular or make tons of money. Just having my name printed on the cover would make me feel like a million bucks!I have so many big ambitions, but I know they'll require hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Still, as my mom always tells me, if I keep dreaming big and never give up, I can achieve anything I set my mind to. The future is looking bright! What about you? What are your hopes and dreams for the years ahead? I'd love to hear all about them. Thanks for reading, and don't forget to dream big!篇6Hi friends! Today I want to tell you all about the cool stuff I've been learning in my English class lately. We've been working on Units 3 and 4 in our textbook and let me tell you, it's been super interesting! In Unit 3, we learned about technology and how it impacts our lives. Can you believe that people used to have to go to big buildings called libraries to look up information in huge books? Nowadays, we can just use our phones or computers to search for anything we want to know on the internet. It's amazing! We read some really neat articles about the history of different technologies like the telephone, television, and computer. My favorite part was learning about how the internet was invented and how it connects people all over the world. It's mind-blowing to think that I can video chat with my cousin in another country just by tapping a few buttons!Speaking of video chatting, that's actually one of the topics we covered in our speaking and listening lessons. We practicedhaving conversations over video calls, which was funny because we were just a few feet away from our classmates! But it was good practice for the real thing. We also learned lots of useful vocabulary related to technology, like "download," "upload," "bandwidth," and "server." I feel like a total tech expert now. Maybe I'll grow up to be a computer programmer or engineer and create the next big technological innovation! In Unit 4, we switched gears a bit and focused on the topic of sports and fitness. I don't know about you, but I absolutely love playing sports and being active. It's so much fun and also really good for your health. We read some super inspirational stories about famous athletes who overcame huge challenges to achieve their dreams. My favorite was the article about Wilma Rudolph, who had to wear a leg brace as a child due to polio but went on to become an Olympic gold medalist in track and field. Talk about determination! In our speaking lessons, we had to give presentations about our favorite sports or athletes. I did mine on soccer (or football, as they call it in some countries) because I'm obsessed with it. Itold my classmates all about the rules, top players, and most exciting moments in soccer history. For our writing assignment, we had to compose an opinion essay arguing whether kids should be required to play sports in school or not. I said they definitely should because sports teach you teamwork, discipline, and how to lead an active lifestyle from an early age. Physical education is just as important as academics, in my opinion! We also learned a ton of new vocabulary related to sports and exercise, like "cardiovascular," "endurance," "agility," and "conditioning." Now when I watch sports on TV, I feel like I understand the commentators better. Who knows, maybe I'll be a sportscaster myself one day! That's just a taste of what we covered in Units 3 and 4, but I could go on and on. English class has been so much fun because we're learning about topics that are genuinely interesting and relevant to our lives as kids in the 21st century.I'm really looking forward to the next units because I heard we'll be learning about fascinating stuff like environmental protection, cultural traditions around the world, and more. How cool is that?Well, that's all for now, friends. Let me know if you have any other questions about the awesome things I've been studying in English class. I'll do my best to explain it all in a way that's easy for kids like us to understand. See you next time!。

There's just something special about getting away from the daily grind, experiencing newplaces, and making wonderful memories together. This past summer, we took an incredible trip that I'll never forget. It all started back in April when my dad announced over dinner one night, "Who wants to go on an awesome family trip this summer?" My brother and I immediately perked up with excitement. Mom smiled and said she was definitely in. We spent the next few weeks researching potential destinations and finally decided on a two-week road trip through the American Southwest. On the morning of July 10th, we piled into our minivan with our suitcases packed and a cooler full of road trip snacks and drinks. The drive from our home in Ohio to our first stop in St. Louis, Missouri took about 5 hours. Even though it was just the beginning, I could already feel the thrill and anticipation building for the adventure ahead. In St. Louis, we visited the famous Gateway Arch, took a tram ride up to the top for incredible views of the city, and walked along the Mississippi River. The next day, we drove several more hours to Bentonville, Arkansas, which is the home of the original Walmart store. We took a tour and learned all about how the company got started. It was actually pretty interesting! From there, we headed west into Oklahoma and stopped at the amazing Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah. We're part Cherokee on my mom's side, so it was meaningful to learn more about our Native heritage and see recreated ancient Cherokee homes and artifacts. The outdoor museums and cultural demonstrations were my favorite part. After driving through the panhandle of Texas, we made it to Santa Fe, New Mexico and spent a few days exploring the incredible Pueblo-style adobe architecture, art galleries, and dining on delicious New Mexican cuisine like sopapillas and huevos rancheros. The Santa Fe Plaza and surrounding historic districts were like stepping back in time. But the real highlight was finally arriving at thejaw-droppingly beautiful Grand Canyon in Arizona. When we first pulled up to the Canyon View Visitor Center and I looked out over the vast, colorful, ancient chasm stretching endlessly before us, I was speechless. We snapped photos like crazy, but no camera could capture the true grandeur and splendor. We hiked out along the famous Bright Angel Trail and I felt so small surrounded by the towering crimson canyon walls that stretched higher than any building I'd ever seen.On our final days, we drove through gorgeous Monument Valley with its soaring sandstone buttes and mesas along the Utah/Arizona border. We stopped at Four Corners Monument where you can stand in four states at once. We even drove all the way up to the dramatically perched Mesa Verde cliff dwellings in Colorado before beginning our long trek back home. That two-week road trip was the ultimate bonding experience for our family. We made so many wonderful memories - from singing goofy songs together in the car to roasting s'mores under the starry southwestern sky to exploring and learning about new cultures and lands. We grew closer and created bonds that can't be broken.I'll forever cherish the photos and souvenirs, but the true gift was the quality time we spent together creating unforgettable experiences. Even though the trip is over, those memories will live on forever in my heart. I feel so grateful to my parents for gifting me and my brother with such an incredible adventure. It was the trip of a lifetime that I will always look back on as one of the happiest, most magical and awe-inspiring times of my life so far.篇2A Memorable Family VacationAs a teenager, I used to think family vacations were just a boring obligation – something my parents forced us to do every summer. However, our trip last year to the beautiful country of New Zealand completely changed my perspective. It was an experience filled with amazing adventures, hilarious mishaps, and memorable bonding moments that brought my family closer together. Let me take you through the highlights of our unforgettable journey. The adventure started with a lengthy flight from our home in California. My sister and I entertained ourselves on the plane by playing travel games and watching movies, while my parents spent most of the time trying to sleep through the loud engine noise. When we finally landed in Auckland after over 12 hours in the air, we were all a bit disoriented but excited to begin exploring. Our first couple of days were spent visiting the iconic sights around Auckland. We took a ferry across the harbor to the luxurious Waiheke Island, known for its beautiful beaches and wineries. My parents enjoyed touring the vineyards and doing wine tastings, while my sister and I had a blast swimming, kayaking, and soaking up the sun. The only downside was whena sneaky wild parrot stole one of the sandwiches right out of my dad's hands! After Auckland, we rented a campervan and set off to road trip around the two main islands. Driving on the opposite side of the road from what we're used to took some getting used to for my dad. There were a few near misses and some colorful language whenever he accidently drifted into the wrong lane. But he got the hang of it eventually, and we loved the freedom and flexibility of the campervan life. One of the highlights was our visit to the volcanic and geothermal area of Rotorua. We stayed at a holiday park right next to the incredible geysers and bubbling mud pools. The sulfuric eggy smell hung thick in the air, but it was a small price to pay for the amazing natural scenery. We went on an exhilarating jet boat ride through the winding rapids, did a luging cart race down the mountainside, and even tried our hand at a cultural performance with the indigenous Maori people. It was an action-packed few days that we'll never forget. My favorite part, however, was our multi-day hike along the Milford Track in Fiordland on the South Island. After taking a little boat across a gorgeous fjord, we started our trek through the picturesque mountains, valleys, and lush rainforests.Although the hiking was quite strenuous at times, especially while carrying our heavy packs, the panoramic views made it all worthwhile. We saw breathtaking waterfalls, fields of wildflowers, hanging glaciers, and clear blue lakes along the way. At night, we stayed in basic hut accommodations and bonded over card games and funny stories by the fire. My mom and I won our intense card tournament, which my dad grumbled about for days afterwards. Our Zealand adventure ended in Queenstown, the adrenaline capital of the world. My parents were brave enough to go sky diving, something they had always dreamed of doing. I have to admit I was a nervous wreck as I watched their tiny figures jump out of the plane, but they both landed safely with huge grins on their faces. My sister and I opted for the slightly tamer activity of whitewater rafting, which was still an incredible thrill splashing through the rapids. On our final night in Queenstown, we had a celebratory fancy dinner at a restaurant overlooking the waterfront and mountains. As we indulged in the delicious New Zealand lamb and wine, we went around the table sharing our favorite memories from our epic three-week road trip. My mom couldn't stop raving about the Milford Track hike, my dad adored thewineries, my sister loved the adrenaline rushes, and I think my personal highlight was bonding with my family while disconnected from the outside world. What started as a "forced family fun" situation turned into a trip I'll cherish forever. Yes, there were some stressful moments dealing with different personalities in tight campervan quarters. And there were times I thought I might actuallly strangle my obnoxious little sister. But those minor frustrations were completely overshadowed by the incredible beauty of New Zealand, the electrifying activities, and the priceless opportunity to create lifelong memories together as a family. I am so grateful my parents gave us the chance to explore such an amazing country and have an experience that brought us all closer. Who knew family vacations could actually be fun?篇3My Family's Amazing AdventureThis past summer, my family and I went on the most incredible trip together. We had been saving up for years to be able to afford to travel somewhere truly special and amazing. After lots of discussion and research, we eventually decided on going to Hawaii for two whole weeks! None of us had ever beenthere before, so we were all super excited to experience this tropical paradise. The process of getting ready was almost as fun as the trip itself. For months leading up to our departure date, my brother and I spent hours looking things up online about the different islands, activities, foods, and cultural traditions of Hawaii. We made list after list of all the stuff we wanted to see and do - snorkeling, hiking, checking out active volcanoes, attending a luau, eating fresh pineapple and coconut everything. My parents bought us all new suitcases and summer clothes and accessories like sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen. The anticipation was killing me!Finally, the day arrived when we headed to the airport bright and early. I don't think any of us slept much the night before from sheer excitement. The plane ride from mainland USA to Honolulu was pretty long, but I didn't even mind because I spent the whole time staring out the window in awe as we flew over the endless ocean. When we finally landed and stepped off the plane, the warm tropical air hit us and it smelled like flowers. I knew right then this was going to be the trip of a lifetime. For our first few days, we stayed at a fancy resort on the island of Oahu. The hotel had multiple huge pools, waterslides, alazy river, and was right on the beachfront. We spent our time just relaxing by the water, swimming, and getting used to the laid-back island vibe. We went snorkeling for the first time and I couldn't believe all the cool and colorful fish we saw up close. One afternoon we took a tour to see some of the famous panoramic overlooks around the island. The views of the bright blue ocean meeting the lush green mountains were something I'll never forget. After a few days on Oahu, we hopped on a short plane to the island of Maui. This is where some of the most exciting parts of our trip happened. We went on multiple hikes through the dense bamboo forests and up parts of the steep emerald mountains. The air was cool and damp under the tree cover and everything felt prehistoric and jurassic. We also took a driving tour that took us up to the top of the Haleakala Crater, which is a massive dormant volcano. The scale of it was unbelievable - we felt so tiny in comparison. And the incredible views from the summit were worth the long drive. One of my personal favorite experiences was attending an authentic Hawaiian luau one evening. Before the main event, we learned all about the traditions and culture of hula dancing, lei making, ukulele playing, and fire dancing. Then the luau itselfbegan, which was basically an endless feast with every Hawaiian dish you can imagine - kalua pork, lomi lomi salmon, haupia coconut pudding, poi, pineapple everything, and so much more. There were hula performances, fire dances, and even traditional Hawaiian games and crafts. It was such an amazing immersive experience into the rich culture of the islands. For our final few days in Hawaii, we went to the Big Island to see the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Just driving through the park, you could see the steam vents and sulphur banks off in the distance. But we also did a tour that took us on a hike right up to the glowing hot lava flows of the active Kilauea volcano. Seeing that bursting, fiery red molten rock was honestly one of the most surreal and mesmerizing moments of my life. The power and heat coming off of it was hard to comprehend. I'll never forget that hike.On our very last day, we decided to go on a whale watching boat tour off the coast of Maui. It turned out to be the perfect grand finale to our time in Hawaii. As we floated through the cobalt blue waters, we ended up encountering not just one but two different pods of humpback whales! Seeing those massive yet surprisingly graceful creatures breaking through the surface of the water was such an incredible privilege. At one point, amother and her calf started breaching repeatedly right alongside our boat. Just watching them, I felt so small but also so connected to nature and the world. It's a moment of pure wonder I will hold on to forever.By the time we had to head back to the airport and fly home, none of us wanted to leave. Those two weeks in Hawaii had been a dream come true in every way. We made so many wonderful memories together as a family through all the activities, sights, experiences, and adventures. Not only did we get to fully immerse ourselves in the absolute natural beauty of the islands, but we also gained a deep appreciation for the native Hawaiian culture, traditions, food, and way of life.I feel so grateful that my parents worked hard to make this trip possible for us. Looking back on those perfect two weeks, I realize I grew so much from being exposed to a whole new world. My understanding and perspective expanded in ways I couldn't have imagined before visiting Hawaii. I know the islands made a permanent imprint on my heart and mind that I will carry with me forever. I can't wait to go back someday and make more magical memories with my loved ones in that tropical paradise.。

Six things I learned after I started to travel long distance
Six things I learned after I started to travel long distance导读:读万卷书,行万里路。
通过旅行,我们可以学到很多从书本中学不到的有用知识。
可见,旅行的意义非同一般。
I circled the world by plane (twice, actually)and went to some crazy places. Here are 6 things I learned by doing this.1. The world is beautiful.Rubbish is the same in every culture, but beauty is different for each and every one. It took a while to turn my head around this. But in the end I understood that creativity and diversity are two basic traits of the human race.2. Friendship is a state of mind. You don’t have to share a lot of time or space with someone to become friends. It’s more about trust and transparency. I made a lot of friends at thousands of kilometers away from home. Years after we met,we are still in touch, although we are not seeing each other in person.3. Plan for the worse but expect the best. When you are traveling to 20,000 km away from home for the first time, you plan a lot. You do a lot of research and get alot of things with you and you are kind of scared. And that is a good thing:it keeps you alert and make you aware. But once your plane took off, forget this. Just enjoy the ride.4. It is all about point of view.If you are going each and every day to the same route (doesn’t matter if it’s a happy or a boring route),you tend to your loving for what you already have. But once you go on a long trip, for a few weeks, completely changing the scenery, once you get back home, everything looks better,shinier,nicer.5. Food is good. When you travel far away from home, you also travel far away from your eating habits. Your food will, most of time, totally changed. But that is very good news. Your body will be exposed to a wealth of tastes and nutrients. And that will finally lead you to the conclusion that,no matter where you are, food is always good.6. Risk a little, live a lot.I usually travel alone. That has at least one major advantage (and,I admit,a few drawbacks, but we are not focusing on those now). It is about flexibility. I can change plans really fast. And I often do it. Many of the most memorablemoments from my trips are generated by short moments of:“Oh,hell, let’s try this too.”Vocabularytrait n. 特征transparency n. 透明,透明度alert adj. 警惕的expose v. 使暴露flexibility n. 灵活性(What have you learned from long distance travel?Do you have the same feeling with the author?)李潇改编。
