DOE announces major ARRA initiatives
• In the past month, DOE has announced major Recovery Act initiatives in five areas:
– Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E)
– Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability (Smart Grid)
– Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy – Office of Science – Environmental Management

3. EPA, SBA, and other agencies have posted new opportunities in the energy and environmental areas
4. We will focus here first on DOE, and then move on to EPA, SBA, DOD, and the others

DOE ARPA-E Initiative
• DOE announced a $400 million ARPA-E Recovery Act initiative
• This is the first solicitation for ARPA-E and one of the most important DOE Recovery Act announcements to date
2. Get with the program – understand ARRA’s purpose and objectives
3. Follow the money – know where and how the funds will be spent
4. Understand ARRA’s audit and reporting requirements – there are lots of them
5. Stay flexible and informed – ARRA’s implementation practices will change frequently, and more funds may become available
