NEREUS (涅柔斯)
NEREUS was another old man of the sea and, could foretell the future and change his shape. He was a son of Pontus and Gaia, Nereus mated with one of the Oceanids and become the father of fifty daughters. Three of these are important: THETIS, GALAYEA, AMPHITRITE.

PELEUS AND THETIS (珀琉斯和特提斯）
Zeus learned from Prometheus the secret that Thetis was destined to bear a son mightier than his father, and so he avoided her. Instead, a mortal named Peleus wooed and won her, not without difficulty, because she changed herself into all sorts of things, a bird, a tree, and a tigress. The wedding of Peleus and Thetis was one of the most famous in mythology and their son Achilles (the hero of the Trojan War) did become mightier than his father.

produced by Gaia in the fist stages of creation. is a symbol of “the sea”. He with his wife Gaia gave birth to Nereus、Ceto、 Phorcys、Iris. 蓬托斯是前奥林匹克神、大地之母盖亚的孩 子，是大海的象征。他又和盖亚生了海洋老人涅 柔斯、象征大海危险的福耳库斯和刻托、彩虹女 神爱丽丝。

Poseidon was son of Kronus and Rhea，and brother of Zeus. After the war with the Titans，he became the mighty and majestic god of the sea，ruling all the water saround the earth.He was considered to have the greatest power next to Zeus .Poseidon ruled his kingdom with cold shaking. He could call up all the big winds and stir up or calm down the stormy oceans. with a trident in his hand ，he flew across the waves in a carriage drawn by horses with bronze hoofs and golden hairs.Although he had a seat on Olympus，he lived，most of the time，in his shining golden palace in the deeps of the oceans.

SCYLLA AND CHARYBDIS (斯库拉和卡律布狄斯）
Poseidon made advances to Scylla(a granddaughter of Pontus). Amphitrite was jealous and threw magic herbs into Scylla’s bathing place, which turned her into a vicious monster, encircled with a ring of dog’s heads. She lived in a cave in the stormy Strait of Messina between Sicily and Italy. With her was Charybdis, daughter of Poseidon and Gaia, an equally formidable ally, who drew in mountains of water and spewed them out again. Scylla and Charybdis were a menace to heroes such as Odysseus.
