We often read in novels how a seemingly respectable person or family has some terrible secret which has been concealed from strangers for years.(l.1) 在小说中，我们经常读到一个表面上受人尊重 的人物或家庭，却有着某种多年不为人所知的 骇人听闻的秘密。

heroine: the main female character in the novel （女主人公）; a great woman （女英雄） She was one of the great civil war heroines. The heroine in the novel is an artist. a great man or main male character : hero fiction n. 小说 Don't braid fact with fiction. 别将事实与虚构混为一谈。 Fiction writing as a means of living is no easy task. 写小说作为一种谋生手段绝非易事。
