Hippolyte Adolphe Taine said,” No writer was better gifted than Thackeray for this kind of satire because no faculty is more proper to satire than reflection.” From this comment we can clearly see that William Makepeace Thackeray, the writer of Vanity Fair, has a very high evaluation in literary circles. It’s the reason why I choose to read this book. By the way, I have to say Vanity Fair is so good a title that we can see through the hypocrisy of this human society.

Vanity Fair is talking about that the daughter of poor painter, Rebecca Sharp, have been lost parents, but brilliant. After graduating from boarding school in the form of work-study program, Rebecca started by an unknown family teacher, firmly seize every opportunity to blend in the Victorian society. And she becomes a courtesan at last.

The heroine of this novel, Rebecca Sharp, she left a deep impression on me. She said, "I think I could be a good woman if I had five thousand a year." However I want to say that, Rebecca is better tha n a lot of men even if she doesn’t have five thousand. The reason why I say that are as follows. First of all, Rebecca was born poor, but she was determined to get rid of poverty. This is a very inspiring thing. After that, she is not a vase and smart than anyone in the Cowleys. As a declining aristocracy governess, she has not been deterred by the difficult living environment, and she has less complaint. On the contrary, she works diligently to teach the students well. At the same time, she seizes at every opportunity, escapes the environment she loathed.

Vanity Fair is a vanity world which filled with dust everywhere. It blinds the eyes of people, fixed in the mind, and never drops out. As a result, People are always preferred to look for a beautiful and colorful situation to show off in the Vanity Fair. They all come to the Vanity Fair firmly at last and never look back. People carry on all the strength to the best society desperately, while abandoned the friendship and true love. Money and power became their only goal. However, there is fact we should realize that money and power is limited while people's desire is infinite. We have to admit that Vanity Fair is a realistic story because no one can get rid of fame and fortune. Everyone is eager to money and status. Once you have one of them, others will regard you with special respect or new views.

To some extent, we should also see the novel to convey some of the positive factors to us. For example, we can learn from Rebecca that people should brave enough to pursue love and challenge the destinies. We can also learn from Amelia. She is loyalty to love and kind to the society and people.

To sum up, Vanity Fair is worth reading. You may feel regret if you miss this book.
