Other foods include a whole fish, to represent togetherness and abundance(富 余), and a chicken for prosperity(繁 荣). The chicken must be presented with a head, tail and feet to symbolize completeness. Noodles should be uncut, as they represent long life.

Christmas is a traditional festival in western countries. It is the biggest festival celebrated in the Christian countries of the world. Christian countries regard this day as the birthday of Jesus Christ, but many of the customs and celebrations are not of a religious nature.
Traditional New Year Foods
On New Year’s Day, the Chinese family will eat dumplings , noodles and various fruits and vegetable . In south China, the favorite and most typical dishes were nian gao, sweet steamed glutinous rice(糯米糕)
the Christmas colors. Before the Christmas every family will prepare a Christmas tree in the drawing-room. They decorate it very beautiful. On Christmas Eve, the family will have a big dinner(turkey, roasted chicken), and the children hang up the stock and listen for Santa Claus.

The Spring Festival
The Spring Festival like Christmas Day in the western countries, is the most important festival in China. Children like it very much because they can have delicious things to eat, pretty clothes to wear and many nice things to play with. When Spring Festival comes, people away from their hometowns usually come back and spend it with their families. People mainly do two things during the festival. One is eating, and the other is playing. They usually buy different kinds of food and make different kinds of delicious dishes, and play in different ways.

With the passage of time, the nature of Christmas celebration has undergone tremendous change and every year a new tradition begins. Christmas, celebrated to remember and honor the birth of holy Jesus, has evolved from a staunch religious affair into a merry hearted event that include carnivals, cookies and off course Santa Clause.
The Origin of Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the beginning of Spring (the first of the twenty-four terms in coordination with the changes of Nature). Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese solely means "year", was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year.
Exchanging gifts and sending Christmas cards are the modern ways of celebrating the Christmas in the world.

On Christmas morning, the first thing for many people is gather around the Christmas tree to exchange gifts and Merry Christmas greeting with each other. Then the Christmas Dinner is coming.
