Urban challenges
1.Why are millions of people leaving the countryside and moving into crowded
cities?
I think there are several reasons that lead to this trend together.
The most important one should be the Economic pressure. The governments’requisition of the rural land causes many farmers to lose some of their land. And the decrease of their land to grow crops means the decrease of their income to support their family. Meanwhile, the price level is constantly rising. The losing of land and the price level both impose huge pressure on farmers, and they find themselves hard to survive in the countryside. So they move into the cities and try to find a job to make a living. Because big cities supplymore opportunities for job.And they can send money back to the countryside to support their family.
The villagers also concern moreaboutbetter education resources. They place high hopes on their children and wish them could change their fate by studying hard.
So they migrate into big cities taking their children with them in order to accept high-quality education and broaden their vision.
Another reason may be their desire for improving living condition. Because the big cities have clean environment, better security system, convenient traffic and high-demanding shopping services and so forth.
In short, cities are superior to countryside in many aspects and they can provide villagers better life, so they leave the countryside and move into cities.
Health and fitness
1.In which way do you think globalization might play a role in our health?
Ithink globalization is a double-edged sword.
On one hand, globalization makes it possible for virus and disease to spread all over the world. As we all know, the continents are separated by oceans and high mountains and the traffic is extremely inconvenient in the past. So thereis little contacts between different areas and this means it is unfavorable for virus and germs to spread.
However, the beginning of the exploration of the world is also the beginning of the spread of disease, which threatens the health of people all over the world. For instance, after Columbus discovered the America, the Europeans bring some virus to the old land. Even If those virus is quite ordinary for Europeans, it is fatal for the local people because their immune system could not defeat them. And eventually the decease caused massive death.
In addition, with the frequent communication between different cultures, variety of unhealthy life styles and habits also spread, such as smoking and taking drugs, which will cause permanent damage to human’s health.
On the other hand, the economic globalization provides huge amounts of money to develop the healthcare system. And since our country’s GDP is increasing, the phenomenon of malnutrition has decreased, people are more willing to go to the hospital because they have enough money.
