Ronin (1998) 浪人 Ronin has one of the most admired movie car chases of the modern era. It manages to incorporate genuinely high speeds by camera trick, and it is the envy of every British road user. Employing Formula One pilots as stunt drivers, Frankenheimer applies the Audi S8, BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz 6.9 to battle one another on narrow city streets, on roads cut along the French Riviera coast, through tunnels and driving against traffic on crowded highways. It’s one thing to wreck cars in a movie, it’s something else altogether to have them driven as brilliantly as they are in Ronin.
