She was paying for her items with change and wanted to purchase each separately.I was frustrated with this woman and the inconvenience she had placed on me.But then I watched the young employee with this woman.I watched him help her count her change, ever so softly taking it from her shaking hands. When she asked if she had enough to buy a reusable bag,he told her she did and went two lines over to get one for her and then repackaged her items.Never once was this employee angry. He was nothing but patient and kind.As I was watching him,I saw that Eloise was too.She was standing next to the woman, watching the employee count the change.I realized I hadn’t been inconvenienced at all. That my daughter was instead witnessing kindness and patience and being taught this valuable lesson by a complete stranger. When the woman was finished, the employee began ringing up my items and thanked me for my patience.I then thanked him for teaching us patience andkindness by his treatment of that elderly woman. When he was finished I pushed my cart through the store trying to find the manager.I wanted her to know of the employee’s kindness and patience and how much it meant to me.After tracking her down and sharing the story with her,we left Target with a cart full of consumable items, but what is more,a heart full of gratitude for such an invaluable lesson. If you are ever in the Glendale Target, give Ishmael a smile and a nod.The world could use more people like him.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________…【写作指导】要写好记叙文的概要,先要找到以下两个问题的答案:(1)谁做了什么?(2)结果如何?如果是夹叙夹议文,还要加上这个故事给人们的启示或教育意义。

2017年10月自考英语二作文范文The world of academia is a vast and ever-evolving landscape, where students from all walks of life embark on a journey of intellectual growth and self-discovery. Among the many challenges faced by these aspiring scholars, the task of mastering a second language often stands out as a crucial milestone. In the context of higher education, the English language has emerged as a global lingua franca, making proficiency in this tongue a valuable asset for students seeking to broaden their horizons and unlock new opportunities. In the year 2017, the October self-study exam for English II served as a testament to the dedication and hard work of countless individuals who had committed themselves to the pursuit of linguistic excellence. As a comprehensive assessment of their skills, this exam challenged students to showcase their abilities in a range of areas, from reading comprehension and grammar to writing and oral communication. One of the key components of the English II self-study exam was the essay writing section, which required examinees to demonstrate theircommand of the English language through the crafting of a well-structured, coherent, and persuasive piece of writing. This task, while daunting for some, presented an opportunity for students to showcase their critical thinking skills, their ability to organize and articulate their ideas, and their mastery of the nuances of the English language. The successful completion of this essay component was not merely a matter of technical proficiency; it also required a deep understanding of the cultural and contextual factors that shape the use of language. Students were expected to be attuned to the subtle variations in tone, register, and style that are essential in crafting a compelling and effective piece of writing. As students approached the essay portion of the exam, they were likely confronted with a range of emotions – from the initial trepidation of facing a daunting task to the exhilaration of the challenge itself. The act of putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, was a testament to their commitment to their academic pursuits and their determination to excel. In the process of composing their essays, students were required to draw upon a diverse array of skills and knowledge. They needed to demonstrate a firm grasp of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, as well as the ability to organize their thoughts in a logical and coherentmanner. Additionally, they were expected to showcase their critical thinking abilities, their capacity for analysis and synthesis, and their aptitude for constructing persuasive arguments.Beyond the technical aspects of essay writing, students were also challenged to infuse their work with a sense of creativity and originality. The most compelling essays were those that managed to captivate the reader through the unique perspectives and insights they offered, while still adhering to the conventions of academic writing. As the exam progressed, the students' essays were meticulously evaluated by a team of experienced assessors, who carefully examined each submission for its adherence to the prescribed guidelines, its depth of content, and its overall effectiveness in communicating the writer's ideas. This rigorous evaluation process ensured that the final results would be a true reflection of the students' linguistic abilities and their commitment to their studies. For those who successfully navigated the challenges of the essay component, the sense of accomplishment was palpable. They had not only demonstrated their proficiency in the English language but had also proven their ability to tackle a complex academic task with diligence and aplomb. This achievement was not merely a testament to their individual efforts but also a reflection of the tireless work anddedication of the educators and institutions that had supported them along the way. However, the true significance of the English II self-study exam extended far beyond the confines of the exam hall. The skills and knowledge acquired through this process would serve as a foundation for the students' future academic and professional endeavors, equipping them with the linguistic tools necessary to engage with a globalized world and to navigate the increasingly interconnected landscape of higher education and the workforce. As these students move forward, their mastery of the English language will open doors to new opportunities, allowing them to collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, to access a wealth of information and resources, and to contribute their unique perspectives to the ongoing discourse in their respective fields. The ability to communicate effectively in English will not only enhance their academic and professional prospects but will also foster a greater sense of cultural understanding and global citizenship. In conclusion, the 2017 October English II self-study exam was a testament to the unwavering dedication and resilience of students who had committed themselves to the pursuit of linguistic excellence. Through the rigorous essay writing component, they had demonstrated their ability to navigate the complexities of the Englishlanguage, to think critically, and to articulate their ideas with clarity and conviction. 2017浙江卷英语作文

The Power of Perseverance in the Face ofChallengesIn the journey of life, we encounter various challenges and obstacles that test our resolve and perseverance. The 2017 Zhejiang English essay, with its profound theme of "Overcoming Difficulties Through Perseverance," serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. This essay explores the essence of perseverance, its role in overcoming difficulties, and the lessons we can learn from it.Perseverance is the steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. It is the driving force that propels us forward when faced with challenges and setbacks. As the saying goes, "No pain, no gain." This adage aptly illustrates the concept of perseverance, as it requires us to persevere through the pain and difficulty to achieve the desired gain.In the context of the 2017 Zhejiang English essay, perseverance is the key to overcoming the difficulties encountered in the journey of life. The essay highlights the importance of staying focused, maintaining a positiveattitude, and never giving up, even when faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles. By persevering, we are able to transform our weaknesses into strengths, turn setbacks into opportunities, and ultimately achieve our goals. One of the most striking examples of perseverance is Thomas Edison's journey in inventing the light bulb. He faced numerous failures and setbacks, but never gave up. Instead, he persevered, learning from his mistakes, and eventually succeeded in inventing the light bulb that revolutionized the world. His story teaches us that perseverance is not just about staying power; it is about learning, growing, and transforming ourselves through the challenges we face. Moreover, perseverance instills in us a sense of purpose and direction. When we persevere, we are more likely to stay focused on our goals and work towards them with dedication and commitment. This focus and dedication help us stay motivated and inspired, even when faced with difficulties and setbacks. As a result, we are more likely to achieve our goals and realize our dreams. However, perseverance does not mean stubbornly sticking to one path regardless of the obstacles. Instead, it involves being flexible and adaptive,愿意改变策略和方法来应对不同的挑战。
2017英语二大作文

2017英语二大作文英文回答:In the ever-evolving landscape of education, teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the minds of young learners. While technology has undeniably transformed the way lessons are delivered, its impact on the fundamental role of educators remains a topic of heated debate. In this essay, I will delve into the complex relationship between technology and teaching, exploring both its potential benefits and its inherent limitations.Technology has the power to enhance student engagement and foster personalised learning experiences. Digital tools provide access to a vast repository of information, allowing students to explore topics in depth and at their own pace. Interactive simulations, virtual field trips, and multimedia resources bring abstract concepts to life, making learning more immersive and engaging. Furthermore, adaptive learning platforms tailor lessons to eachstudent's individual strengths and weaknesses, ensuringthat they are challenged appropriately. However, it is crucial to recognise the limitations of technology in the education sphere. While it can supplement traditional teaching methods, it cannot fully replace the human connection and personal touch that characterises effective teaching. Students need face-to-face interaction with their educators to develop essential social and interpersonal skills, such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. Bodily gestures, intonation, and facial expressions convey nuances of meaning that are often lost in online interactions. Moreover, the over-reliance on technology can inadvertently create a digital divide, exacerbating inequalities in education. Not all students have equal access to the necessary devices and internet connectivity, leading to a gap between those who can benefit from advanced technological tools and those who are left behind. Additionally, excessive screen time can have detrimental effects on students' physical and mental health. In conclusion, while technology offers undeniable potential for enhancing education, it is not a panacea. The most effective learning environments strike a balance between technology and human interaction, recognising the unique contributions of both. By integrating technologyinto teaching in a thoughtful and strategic manner, educators can create a dynamic and engaging learning experience that empowers students to reach their full potential.

ACrossing your legs is an extremely common but unconscious habit. While you may find this gesture comfortable, it might be causing health problems without your ignorance.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The habit increases the resistance for the blood to be pumped back to your heart, making it harder to circulate, which causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won’t feel any immediate effects, but it’s quite another thing for long periods of time. So, you’d better not have your legs crossed for more than 15 minutes, and it’s advisable to get up and walk around at least once every hour.Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain. It’s not easy to maintain perfect posture all day, but when you sit with your legs crossed your hips are in a twisted position, causing one of your pelvic bones to rotate. Since your pelvic bone supports your neck and spine, this can cause pressure on your lower and middle back and neck. You also might notice that when you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs become uncomfortable. This is because crossing your legs causes pressure on the veins and nerves in your legs and feet. It can cause numbness and/or temporary paralysis (麻痹) in the legs, ankles, or feet. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.21. Which one is not the consequence of crossing legs while sitting?A. increased blood pressure C. immediate paralysisB. painful neck and back D. everlasting nerve damage22. What is the main purpose of the passage?A. To introduce some deadly results of crossing the legs.B. To inform readers of harm of crossing the legs.C. To help people get rid of crossing the legs.D. To explain why crossing the legs increase the blood pressure.23. Where does the passage probably come from?A. A biology news C. A health newspaperB. A medical book D. A research report BMicrosoft has developed a new smartphone app that interprets eye signals and translates them into letters, allowing people with motor neurone disease to communicate with others from a phone. The GazeSpeak app combines a smartphone’s camera with artificial intelligence to recognize eye movements in real time and convert them into letters, words and sentences. For people suffering from ALS(渐冻症), also known as motor neurone disease, eye movement can be the only way they are able to communicate.“Current eye-tracking input systems for people with ALS or other motor impairments are expensive, not strong and healthy under sunlight, and require frequent re-check and lots of relatively fixed setups,” said Xiaoyi Zhang, a researcher at Microsoft who developed the technology.“To ease the drawbacks…we created GazeSpeak, an eye-gesture communication system that runs on a smartphone, and is designed to be low-cost, stable, hand-held and easy to learn.”The app is used by the listener by pointing their smartphone at the speaker. A chart that can be stuck to the back of the smartphone is then used by the speaker to determine which eye movements to make in order to communicate. The sticker shows four grids of letters, which each correspond to a different eye movement. By looking up, down, left or right, the speaker selects which grids (格) the letters they want belong to. The artificial intelligence computational procedure is then able to predict the word or sentence they are trying to say.Zhang’s research, Smartphone-Based Gaze Gesture Communication for People with Motor Disabilities, is set to be presented at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems in May. 24. Who will benefit from the newly-developed App?A. ALS victimsC. smartphone addicts B. people with eye disabilitiesD. technology researchers25. What are not the basic elements used in the App?A. artificial intelligence C. user’s eye movementsB. a smart phone’s camera D. hand-written letters26. What did the researchers do to improve the current eye-tracking input systems?A. to check the eye signals twice to make it fixedB. to create a stable and convenient eye-gesture communication systemC. to point the smartphone at the speakerD. to look up, down, left or rightCOn the day the tornado hit, there was no indication of any coming severe weather. The first alert my husband, Jimmy and I got came around 9 p.m., from some scrolling text on the TV Jimmy was watching. He ran upstairs to find me in our third-floor bedroom, and we changed the channel to our local Pensacola, Florida, station. No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado than it was on top of us. The wind began to roar, the bones of the house shook, and the power went out. We need to reach the strongest place—the closet on the first floor, which is wedged underneath a brick staircase.I didn’t know how or if we would make it down the steps. It felt as if there were no floor underneath me as the wind lifted me off my feet. I held the banister tightly and tried to move forward, but this intense pressure held me in place, with everything rattling and moving. As we reached the last flight of steps, our front door blew out and the back wall of the house followed suit and tore off into the darkness outside. By the time I reached the closet, the tornado had been over us for about a minute. Jimmy pushed me down to the closet floor, but he couldn’t get inside himself because of the wind. I grasped Jimmy’s arm, trying to bring Jimmy with the never-fully-shut door. If I had let go, Jimmy would have flown right out the back of the house and into the bay.“Hold on! Hold on!” he yelled. But there was nothing in this closet to hold on to. All of a sudden, Jimmy lifted off his feet like people in tornadoes do in the movies. I thought he was gone. And then everything stoppe d. He landed on his feet. In those first quiet moments, I couldn’t believe it was over. The storm lasted four minutes. In that time, four of the twelve town houses in our unit were completely destroyed. Of the houses left standing, ours suffered the most damage. Amazingly, none of us were severely injured and we didn’t lose any neighbor.27. The occurrence of the tornado was confirmed through ________.A. some scrolling text C. a relativeB. the local Pensacola Florida station D. observing the top of their house28. Why couldn’t Jimmy get inside?A. Because he had to push his wife.B. Because he has run out of all the strengths.C. Because the door didn’t shut.D. Because the wind was too strong.29. Which word can best describe the author’s feeling during the tornado?A. gratefulC. upsetB. frightenedD. unexpected30. What can we infer form the passage?A. The tornadoes took place at midnight.B. People in tornadoes like to lift off their feet in the movie.C. There was a b ay in front of the couple’s house.D. ACrossing your legs is an extremely common habit; most people don’t even notice that they’re doing it when they sit down. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason this happens is because the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart, crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won’t fe el any immediate effects, but if you sit for long periods of time it’s important that you take note of how long you have your legs crossed for. You shouldn’t have your legs crossed for more than 15 minutes, and it’s important that you get up and walk around at least once every hour.Crossing your legs can also lead to neck and back pain. Ideally, it’s best for our bodies to sit with our feet planted flat, hip width apart, on the floor, but it’s not easy to maintain perfect posture all day at the office. When you sit with your legs crossed your hips are in a twisted position, which can cause one of your pelvic(骨盆的) bones to rotate. Since your pelvic bone supports your neck and spine, this can cause pressure on your lower and middle back and neck. You also might notice that when you sit with your legs crossed for long periods of time your feet and legs get tingly or have the feeling of being asleep. This is because when one leg sits on top of the other it causes pressure on the veins and nerves in your legs and feet. It can cause numbness and/or temporary paralysis in the legs, ankles, or feet. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.(原创)1. What does the underlined word “tingly” (in paragraph 4) mean?A. a slight stinging feelingB. a clear ringing soundC. a pleasant warm feelingD. a strong excitement feeling2. According to the study, what influence does sitting with your legs crossed have on your health?①increasing your blood pressure ②neck and back pain③pressure on the veins and nerves ④permanent nerve damageA.①④B.③④C.①②③D.①②④3. What is the purpose of this passage?A. To increase people’s knowledge of sitting with their legs crossed.B. To introduce the bad influences that sitting with their legs crossed has on people.C. To help people form the habit of sitting with their legs.D. To advocate getting rid of sitting with their legs.BMicrosoft has developed a new smartphone app that interprets eye signals and translates them into letters, allowing people with motor neurone disease to communicate with others from a phone. The GazeSpeak app combines a smartphone’s camera with artificial intelligence to recognize eye movements in real time and convert them into letters, words and sentences. For people suffering from ALS(渐冻症), also known as motor neurone disease, eye movement can be the only way they are able to communicate.“Current eye-tracking input systems for people with ALS or other motor impairments are expensive, not robust under sunlight, and require frequent re-calibration and substantial, relatively immobile setups,” said Xiaoyi Zhang, a researcher at Microsoft who developed the technology.“To mitigate the drawbacks…We created GazeSpe ak, an eye-gesture communication system that runs on a smartphone, and is designed to be low-cost, robust, portable and easy to learn.”The app is used by the listener by pointing their smartphone at the speaker. The first alert my husband, Jimmy, 67, and I, 65, got camearound 9 p.m., from some scrolling text on the TV Jimmy was watching. He ran upstairs to find me in our third-floor bedroom, and we changed the channel from the presidential primary debate I had been watching to our local Pensacola, Florida, station. No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado than it was on top of us. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard. The bones of the house shook, and the power went out. Pink insulation flew into the room from a trapdoor to the attic, and the wind began to roar through the house, most likely through blown-out windows and the door to our garage. We had three flights of steps to navigate to get to the relative safety of the first floor. Because the closet down there is wedged underneath a brick staircase, it seemed like the sturdiest place in our town house to wait things out.I didn’t know how or if we would make it down the steps. It felt as if there were no floor underneath me as the wind lifted me off my feet. I gripped the banister and tried to move forward, but this intense pressure held me in place. In those seconds of practical stillness, I could hear everything around me rattling. Everything was moving. As we reached the last flight of steps, our front door blew out. Shards of glass that looked like crushed ice flew everywhere. Suddenly, a three-foot-long tree branch whipped through the doorframe. It flew over our heads, missing us by inches. Had we been one step up, it would have impaled us.We got close to the staircase landing only to hear the loud ripping sound of our garage door coming off. The back wall of the house followed suit and tore off into the darkness outside.By the time I reached the closet, the tornado had been over us for about a minute. Jimmy pushed me down to the closet floor, but he couldn’t get inside himself because of the wind. I gripped Jimmy’s arm as the tornado sucked the door open—we never did get it fully shut—and tried to bring Jimmy with it. My knees and scalp were full of glass, but in that moment, I felt no pain. If I had let go, Jimmy would have flown right out the back of the house and into the bay.“Hold on! Hold on!” h e yelled. But there was nothing in this closet to hold on to. We use it to store Christmas decorations. All of a sudden, Jimmy lifted off his feet like people in tornadoes do in the movies. I thought he was gone. And then everything stopped. He landed on his feet. In those first quiet moments, I couldn’t believe it was over. Jimmy said he’d go outside to check. “No,” I said. “Don’t leave me. Don’t leave me.”Our neighbor says the storm lasted four minutes. In that time, four of the twelve town houses in our unit were completely destroyed. Of the houses left standing, ours suffered the most damage. Amazingly, none of us were severely injured.(原创)7. What does the underlined sentence “No sooner had we found coverage of the tornado than it was on top of us.” in paragraph 2 mean?A. As soon as the couple found the news of the tornado on the TV, it hit the town.B. When the couple found something to cover their house, the tornado came.C. The couple had not found tornado. Soon, it came on top of them.D. The couple did not have the courage to fight against tornado when it was on the top of them.8. Which of the following sentences is NOT true about the passage?A. There was no any symbol of the tornado’s coming.B. A three-foot-long tree branch impaled the couple.C. Because of the strong wind, not both of the couple could get into the closet floor.D. Jimmy didn’t fly right out back of the house.9. Why didn’t the wife feel pain?A. Because she didn’t get any hurt when the storm hit.B. Because she was too scared to feel pain when the tornado was over her.C. Because she devoted all her strength to holding on to her husband.D. Because she had reached the closet and she was safe.10. 浙江省17年高考英语续写作文

浙江省17年高考英语续写作文You can take away our money, house, car, or even our clothes and we can survive. But if our health was taken away, we would surely die. That is why we always try to eat in a healthy way and exercise regularly. In order to eat healthily, I usually avoid eating food high in fat, like French fries or cookies. I also eat little meat. I eat a lot of vegetables and fresh fruit which are full of vitamins. Taking exercise every day helps us build a strong body. Regular exercise is an important part of keeping me healthy. What's more, I think friends are an important part of one's health. Many studies show that people with a wide range of social contacts get sick less than those who don't.I always feel better when I am with friends than when I am alone. When I amwith my friends, I always laugh. Laughing is also an important part of health.I like to laugh with my friends. By eating properly and exercising regularly,I can keep my body at a proper weight and keep healthy. By spending time with my friends, I can keep my mind as well as my body happy. These things sound easy to do, but not many people can manage them. I think a strong will is necessary if we want to keep healthy.。
