Teaching objectives:
Ss will be able to learn the new words and expressions

Read the text better by finding the statement with supporting details
Teaching procedures:
1.New words and expressions
A.With the following examples, Ss figure out the meaning and the usage of the
words in the context.
1)She was conscious of someone staring at her.
She cried very loudly after she became conscious.
2)I remember going to Shanghai with my parents when I was five.
I remembe r returning the book to him last week.
Remember to buy me the evening newspaper on your way home.
Remember to give him my regards when you see him.
3)I had my car fixed.
I had the roof of the house painted red.
4)You must guard your computer from the virus.
You’d better stay in the car to guard it from being stolen.
5)Don’t always try to avoid heavy work.
The driver took another road to avoid heavy traffic.
He was wearing a pair of sunglasses to avoid being recognized.
B.T has Ss read the words correctly.
C.Ss do the exercises on P.90 to consolidate the words.
2.Lead in
T provides pictures from the Giving Tree for Ss to discuss what kind of love parent’s love is.
Ss say something about their own parents. Ss answer the four questions on Page
84 in their books.
How would you describe your father’s appearance?
How would you describe your father’s character?
What sports does he like best?
How has your father shown his love and care for you?
First reading
T asks Ss read the text for the first time to find out how the author’s father give love and care to his children.
Ss do exercise on Page 89.
Second reading
This text is a narrative passage, but not in time order. The text is filled with illustrative examples, all of which point to the fact that the father is trying his very
best to protect his children and grandchildren. Ss try to divide the text according
1)As a doctor he is especially conscious of the many dangers surrounding us.
