新东方英语作文考研

新东方英语作文考研I remember the first time I decided to take the New Oriental English exam for postgraduate study. It was a daunting task, to say the least. The amount of material to cover, the pressure to perform well, and the fear of failure all weighed heavily on my mind. The first thing I did was to make a study schedule. I knew that I needed to allocate a certain amount of time each day to review the material and practice my English skills. It was important to be consistent and disciplined in my approach, so I made sure to stick to the schedule as much as possible. In addition to studying on my own, I also sought out help from others. I joined study groups, attended review classes, and even hired a tutor to help me with my weak areas. It was important to me to get as much support as I could to ensure my success on the exam.As the exam date approached, I began to feel the pressure mounting. I knew that I had put in the time and effort, but there was always that lingering doubt in the back of my mind. Would I be able to perform well under the pressure? Would all of my hard work pay off in the end? When the day of the exam finally arrived, I was nervous but also determined. I knew that I had done everything inmy power to prepare, and now it was time to put my skillsto the test. As I sat down to take the exam, I reminded myself to stay calm and focused, and to trust in the knowledge and abilities that I had worked so hard to develop. In the end, all of my hard work paid off. I performed well on the exam and was able to achieve the score that I needed for postgraduate study. It was a proud moment for me, and it served as a reminder of the importance of dedication, perseverance, and belief in oneself.Looking back on the experience, I am grateful for the opportunity to challenge myself and to prove to myself thatI am capable of achieving my goals. The New Oriental English exam was a difficult and demanding test, but it also taught me valuable lessons about the power of determination and the rewards of hard work.。

下面是店铺给大家整理的考研英语新东方写作范文,供大家参阅!考研英语新东方写作范文:evolution of sleepsleep is very ancient. in the electroencephalographic sense we share it with all the primates and almost all the other mammals and birds: it may extend back as far as the reptiles.there is some evidence that the two types of sleep, dreaming and dreamless, depend on the life-style of the animal, and that predators are statistically much more likely to dream than prey, which are in turn much more likely to experience dreamless sleep. in dream sleep, the animal is powerfully immobilized and remarkably unresponsive to external stimuli. dreamless sleep is much shallower, and we have all witnessed cats or dogs cocking their ears to a sound when apparently fast asleep. the fact that deep dream sleep is rare among pray today seems clearly to be a product of natural selection, and it makes sense that today, when sleep is highly evolved, the stupid animals are less frequently immobilized by deep sleep than the smart ones. but why should they sleep deeply at all? why should a state of such deep immobilization ever have evolved?perhaps one useful hint about the original function of sleep is to be found in the fact that dolphins and whales and aquatic mammals in genera seem to sleep very little. there is, by and large, no place to hide in the ocean. could it be that, rather than increasing an animal’s vulnerability, the university of florida and ray middies of london university have suggested this to be the case. it is conceivable that animals who are too stupid to be quite on their own initiative are, during periods of high risk, immobilized by the implacable arm of sleep. the point seems particularly clear for the young of predatory animals. this is an interesting notion and probably at least partly true.before the 1850’s, the united states had a number of small colleges, most of them dating from colonial days. they were small, church connected institutions whose primary concern was to shape the moral character of their students.throughout europe, institutions of higher learning had developed, bearing the ancient name of university. in german university was concerned primarily with creating and spreading knowledge, not morals. between mid-century and the end of the 1800’s, more than nine thousand young americans, dissatisfied with their training at home, went to germany for advanced study. some of them return to become presidents of venerable colleges-----harvard, yale, columbia---and transform them into modern universities. the new presidents broke all ties with the churches and brought in a new kind of faculty. professors were hired for their knowledge of a subject, not because they were of the proper faith and had a strong arm for disciplining students. the new principle was that a university was to create knowledge as well as pass it on, and this called for a faculty composed of teacher-scholars. drilling and learning by rote were replaced by the germa n method of lecturing, in which the professor’s own research was presented in class. graduate training leading to the ph.d., an ancient german degree signifying the highest level of advanced scholarly attainment, was introduced. with the establishment of the seminar system, graduate student learned to question, analyze, and conduct their own research.at the same time, the new university greatly expanded in size and course offerings, breaking completely out of the old, constricted curriculum of mathematics, classics, rhetoric, and music. the president of harvard pioneered the elective system, by which students were able to choose their own course of study. the notion of major fields of study emerged. the new goal was to make the university relevant to the real pursuits of the world. paying close heed to the practical needs of society, the new universities trained men and women to work at its tasks, with engineering students being the most characteristic of the new regime. students were also trained as economists, architects, agriculturalists, social welfare workers, and teachers.考研英语新东方写作范文:war between britain and france In the late eighteenth century, battles raged in almost every corner of Europe, as well as in the Middle East, South Africa, the West Indies, and Latin America. In reality, however, there was only one major war during this time, the war between Britain and France. All other battles were ancillary to this larger conflict, and were often at least partially related to its antagonist’ goals and strategies. France sought total domination of Europe. This goal was obstructed by British independence and Britain’s efforts throughout the continent to thwart Napoleon; through treaties. Britain built coalitions (not dissimilar in concept to today’s NATO) guaranteeing British participation in all major European conflicts. These two antagonists were poorly matched, insofar as they had very unequal strengths; France was predominant on land, Britain at sea. The French knew that, short of defeating the British navy, their only hope of victory was to close all the ports of Europe to British ships. Accordingly, France set out to overcome Britain by extending its military domination from Moscow t Lisbon, from Jutland to Caldaria. All of this entailed tremendous risk, because France did not have the militaryresources to control this much territory and still protect itself and maintain order at home.French strategists calculated that a navy of 150 ships would provide the force necessary to defeat the British navy. Such a force would give France a three-to-two advantage over Britain. This advantage was deemed necessary because of Britain’s superior sea skills and technology because of Britain’s superior sea skills and technology, and also because Britain would be fighting a defensive war, allowing it to win with fewer forces. Napoleon never lost substantial impediment to his control of Europe. As his force neared that goal, Napoleon grew increasingly impatient and began planning an immediate attack. 考研英语新东方写作范文:the nobel academyFor the last 82years, Sweden’s Nobel Academy has decided who will receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, thereby determining who will be elevated from the great and the near great to the immortal. But today the Academy is coming under heavy criticism both from the without and from within. Critics contend that the selection of the winners often has less to do with true writing ability than with the peculiar internal politics of the Academy and of Sweden itself. According to Ingmar Bjorksten, the cu ltural editor for one of the country’s two major newspapers, the prize continues to represent "what people call a very Swedish exercise: reflecting Swedish tastes."The Academy has defended itself against such charges of provincialism in its selection by asserting that its physical distance from the great literary capitals of the world actually serves to protect the Academy from outside influences. This may well be true, but critics respond that this very distance may also be responsible for the Academy’s i nability to perceiveaccurately authentic trends in the literary world.Regardless of concerns over the selection process, however, it seems that the prize will continue to survive both as an indicator of the literature that we most highly praise, and as an elusive goal that writers seek. If for no other reason, the prize will continue to be desirable for the financial rewards that accompany it; not only is the cash prize itself considerable, but it also dramatically increases sales of an author’s books.考研英语新东方写作范文:a rare fossil recordThe preservation of embryos and juveniles is a rate occurrence in the fossil record. The tiny, delicate skeletons are usually scattered by scavengers or destroyed by weathering before they can be fossilized. Ichthyosaurs had a higher chance of being preserved than did terrestrial creatures because, as marine animals, they tended to live in environments less subject to erosion. Still, their fossilization required a suite of factors: a slow rate of decay of soft tissues, little scavenging by other animals, a lack of swift currents and waves to jumble and carry away small bones, and fairly rapid burial. Given these factors, some areas have become a treasury of well-preserved ichthyosaur fossils. The deposits at Holzmaden, Germany, present an interesting case for analysis. The ichthyosaur remains are found in black, bituminous marine shales deposited about 190 million years ago. Over the years, thousands of specimens of marine reptiles, fish and invertebrates have been recovered from these rocks. The quality of preservation is outstanding, but what is even more impressive is the number of ichthyosaur fossils containing preserved embryos. Ichthyosaurs with embryos have been reported from 6 different levels of the shale in a small areaaround Holzmaden, suggesting that a specific site was used by large numbers of ichthyosaurs repeatedly over time. The embryos are quite advanced in their physical development; their paddles, for example, are already well formed. One specimen is even preserved in the birth canal. In addition, the shale contains the remains of many newborns that are between 20 and 30 inches long. Why are there so many pregnant females and young at Holzmaden when they are so rare elsewhere? The quality of preservation is almost unmatched and quarry operations have been carried out carefully with an awareness of the value of the fossils. But these factors do not account for the interesting question of how there came to be such a concentration of pregnant ichthyosaurs in a particular place very close to their time of giving birth.考研英语新东方写作范文:skyscrapers and environment in the late 1960’s, many people in north america turned their attention to environmental problems, and new steel-and-glass skyscrapers were widely criticized. ecologists pointed out that a cluster of tall buildings in a city often overburdens public transportation and parking lot capacities.skyscrapers are also lavish consumers, and wasters, of electric power. in one recent year, the addition of 17 million square feet of skyscraper office space in new york city raised the peak daily demand for electricity by 120, 000 kilowatts-enough to supply the entire city of albany, new york, for a day.glass-walled skyscrapers can be especially wasteful. the heat loss (or gain)through a wall of half-inch plate glass is more than ten times that through a typical masonry wall filled with insulation board. to lessen the strain on heating and air-conditioning equipment, builders of skyscrapers have begun to use double-glazed panels of glass, and reflective glasses coated with silver or gold mirror films that reduce glare as well as heat gain. however, mirror-walled skyscrapers raise the temperature of the surrounding air and affect neighboring buildings.skyscrapers put a severe s train on a city’s sanitation facilities, too. if fully occupied, the two world trade center towers in new york city would alone generate 2.25 million gallons of raw sewage each year-as much as a city the size of stanford, connecticut , which has a population of more than 109, 000.。

考研英语一大作文范文(新东方版)

考研英语一大作文范文(新东方版)

考研英语一大作文范文(新东方版)范文:(When the issue of teaching and learning / education / role model arouses wide concern from the public, can we still stand there, hesitating for what occurs?) As we can see from the depiction, a father, sitting in front of a television which broadcasts some kinds of soap operas, is appreciating nuts and bolts of these invariable plots, without any caring about his kids. Actually, it is a Morning Call to send us a message that we adults always perform something wasting much of precious time, thus spoiling youth as every second elapses.(But my own worry today is less that of the overwhelming problem of common housewives or househusbands than it is of the slightly more luxurious agony of the decline in time-managing ability even of the educated teenagers.) Several factors could weigh heavily for this degeneration, yet, suspended at the top of the list are the following two aspects. To begin with, habit is habit. We parents are good at giving ourselves sufficient excuses to support what we always do in our daily life. If one example is needed, I could not but mention the following well-known scientist, whose name is Freud, illuminating that a kind of habit, representing a sense of spiritual existence, can never be changed as long as continuing for 47 days, nor is this kind of negative model behaviors. Furthermore, externally, our society is witnessing an overwhelming number of low-level TV programs, ranging from entertaining shows, TV talk shows and TV series to some other inferior products, which differ in forms as well as broadcasting time but never in their contents. Then, the consequence is distinct. It goes with no exaggeration to say that soap opera ruins the concept of “Like father, like son”.Fortunately, that is not the Day of Judgment. It is, undoubtedly, the very time that we should take some available methods to end up these inappropriate behaviors, including laying down the effective regulations to arrange family time, shaping a moderate education / family outlook and guaranteeing more rational lifestyles.大家可以看到,用小黄书第一篇范文,只需改不到20个单词,就能出来一篇上乘的范文。

01 The Language of MusicA painter hangs his or her finished pictures on a wall, and everyone can see it.A composer writes a work, but no one can hear it until it is performed. Professional singers and players have great responsibilities, for the composer is utterly dependent on them. A student of music needs as long and as arduous a training to become a performer as a medical student needs to become a doctor. Most training is concerned with technique, for musicians have to have the muscular proficiency of an athlete or a ballet dancer. Singers practice breathing every day, as their vocal chords would be inadequate without controlled muscular support. String players practice moving the fingers of the left hand up and down, while drawing the bow to and fro with the right arm—two entirely different movements.Singers and instruments have to be able to get every note perfectly in tune. Pianists are spared this particular anxiety, for the notes are already there, waiting for them, and it is the piano tuner’s responsibility to tune the instrument for them. But they have their own difficulties; the hammers that hit the string have to be coaxed not to sound like percussion, and each overlapping tone has to sound clear. This problem of getting clear texture is one that confronts student conductors: they have to learn to know every note of the music and how it should sound, and they have to aim at controlling these sound with fanatical but selfless authority.Technique is of no use unless it is combined with musical knowledge and understanding. Great artists are those who are so thoroughly at home in the language of music that they can enjoy performing works written in any century.01音乐的语言画家将已完成的作品挂在墙上,每个人都可以观赏到。

Now I would like to give some opinions of myself about the “White Pollution”.As we know, regulation was made to solve the problem in June 1st of 2008. The use ofplastic bags for free was restricted in the supermarket and many other shops. At the beginning, it was carried on well, but now I find plastic bags are used in some small shops for free or with no pay.I am writing to inform you that we should solve this problem soon with the help of your newspaper. You could make some investigations about it and write some reports of it, so as to appeal to all the people’s attention of our society.考研英语作文必背范文6Volunteers NeededJanuary 9, 2010To improve students’ability and enrich extracurricular activities, the Postgraduate Association is recruiting volunteers for an international conference on globalization to be held on December 9, 2010 in Beijing. Briefly speaking, its reasons mainly include the following ones. The first reason is the technical foundation of economic globalization. Advancements in science and technology have provided the material basis and the technical means for the rapid development of globalization. The second reason is the economic foundation of globalization. Firstly, the market economy has become the preferred choice of promoting economy for every country in the world. Secondly, multinationals which are expanding continuously have become the center of economic globalization. Lastly, international economic organizations have been the organic safeguards for the development of economic globalization. (104 words)考研英语作文必背范文9RESUMELi MingP. O. (127 words)考研英语作文必背范文11The past several years have witnessed a phenomenon that a variety of promises have been arising from all walks of life. Regretfully, quite a lot of promises are sheer nonsense, just as the hen in the given cartoon commits herself to lay eggs which are round without any angles andcorners and have shells, egg whites and yolks.Odd and funny as they sound, such false promises can be seen and heard everywhere in our country. Administration departments assure to perform their tasks effectively and fairly without taking any bribes; manufacturing units guarantee to turn out products of good quality; commercial enterprises swear to provide genuine commodities and polite and enthusiastic services. Can you find anything new and substantial other than their obligations, duties and jobs in these so called promises? I guess your answer will be negative. As a matter of fact, their intention to make such commitments is nothing but to put on civilized outer clothing to please or deceive the public.I dare say that our society is suffering corruption and cheat which are causing damage to society both materially and morally. But the hen and her like should know that by dishonest words no one can survive the intense competition under market economy system. They should remember the old saying, “Honesty is the best policy”.考研英语作文必背范文12As is vividly/symbolically shown/described/depicted/illustrated/revealed/portrayed in the cartoons/drawings/portrayals/photos/photographs/pictures, with the rapid/speedy social and economic development, the number of fishes has sharply decreased. He has successfully settled the puzzle of “stopping or going on” which might have confused many others. With the increasing pace of modern life, perhaps no change has characterized the past decade more dramatically than that of people's view on their own life. It is generally agreed upon that people have to adjust themselves to this new change. On the one hand, no doubt, people will gain a lot by setting new goals in their daily life. Take the famous scientist Thomas Edison for example. He had done very well in his early life, but continued to pursue something more difficult all through his life. On the other hand, if one is obsessed with the success he has achieved, he would lose the chance to pursue new success. What is more, he may become the slave of his success. There are many cases showing that people lose their courage to better themselves after becoming successful. To sum up, one's view on his success determines his future. In my opinion, it is necessary tocarry out a nation-wide campaign publicizing people who have a burning desire for more and ever greater achievement when they are already well-known. So that people in the society will develop a forward-looking attitude and make their life worth living and the world more beautiful as well.考研英语作文必背范文14As we can see from the picture, a football match is going on. On guarding the goal, the man on the left seems to be keeping a “huge goal” that is easy and inevitable for a goal, while the person on the right hesitates to kick the ball with an illusion about the “huge keeper”. It is obvious that both of them exaggerate the difficulties in front of them. This picture does reflect a thought-provoking social phenomenon which is not uncommon in China now. The young always give up because the problem is beyond their ability to cope with. Superficially, it seems to be somewhat reasonable, but when weighing in the mind, we find there is an apparent tendency underlying this phenomenon: the lack of confidence. Firstly, it is well-known that we exist in a dynamic world with various difficulties. We can do nothing but face them. Secondly, attitude is the key point to take the first step. Assuming bravery and confidence to solve the problem, you will find the question is not as “huge” as you imagine. Take us for example, the entrance exam for graduate students even seems to be a horrible monster before us. Some people give up, some persist. So, with confidence and the right assessment of the difficulties, try and exert your strength, and then we will overcome all problems. On the whole, I believe we young people should face the difficulties in right manner. And nothing is impossible, just do it.考研英语作文必背范文15As is vividly depicted in the picture, two disabled men are running fast through teamwork although each of them has only one leg. Obviously, it is teamwork that makes it possible for them to go anywhere they want to.Simple as it is, what the picture conveys to us is thought-provoking. With the development of economy and society, competition is increasingly fierce. It is impossible for anyone to finish a work all by himself. Hence, people in mounting numbers put great emphasis on teamwork. In fact, it has been universally acknowledged that the ability of teamwork is the most essential qualification that anyone who wants to achieve success should possess.Accordingly, it is imperative for us to take some measures to enhance the sense of teamwork in our society. We should bear in mind that teamwork is of great significance to both our society and ourselves. Every one should have the ability of teamwork. Only in this way can we achieve success and only in this way can our society become more harmonious to live in.考研英语作文必背范文16As is illustrated in the cartoon, each person sits in their own work room. In front of them is a computer. Everyone looks at the screen carefully, and communicate with their colleagues through the net instead of talking face to face. Their work places are placed like a net. And below the cartoon, there is a topic which says: the near and far among the Internet. From the cartoon, we can conclude that the cartoonist wants to convey such a message: with the popularity of computers, people from all over the world become nearer by using the Internet to communicate with each other. Meanwhile, people also become far away from their friends. All of us accept the fact that the development of the internet brings lots of conveniences to our daily life, for instance, we can buy a book on the net instead of going to a bookstore. Besides, we can communicate with our frie nds on the net without going out of home. But we can’t ignore the otherside of these: the time we spend with friends or family becomes less. And we hardly see them once in a week. It will make us feel lonely if we continue to use the tool on the net to talk with friends instead of talking with them on the phone or going out with them.To my best understanding, we should use the net to communicate with each other in a proper way. It is just a tool when we really need it to serve us. If we want to keep our friendship more effectively, we should spend more time with them in our real life. Only in this way can we not only make full use of the communication tool on the net but also make our friendship stronger.考研英语作文必背范文17As is symbolically illustrated in the portrayal, there is a boiling hot pot containing various ingredients of multi-cultures. These pluralistic cultures can be categorized as celebrities home and abroad as Bi Sheng, Lao She, Shakespeare and Einstein, philosophical concepts as Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, benevolence, ritual, humanism, Enlightenment, post-modernism and deconstruction, as well as performing arts as Beijing Opera, Gong Fu, Liang Zhu and Swan Lake. We are informed that the culture “hot pot” is both delicious and nutritious. The purpose of the cartoonist is to show us that instead of being outdated and of little value in a rapidly modernizing world, cultural blending should be encouraged and maintained. On the one hand, mosaic cultures are part of the universal heritage of humanity and they are powerful means of bringing together diverse peoples and social groups. Consequently, cultural reintegration has become indispensable as a means of promoting further culture development and maintenance. On the other hand, for China, as for any other rapidly developing country, there is a danger that age-old customs and traditions may become lost in the shadows of modernization. If Liang Zhu, Beijing Opera or Swan Lake Ballet ever perished from the earth, it would be a tragedy of immeasurable proportions. In my view, multi-cultures can be kept alive by the people with the time to do so, and is extremely vital in ensuring a community’s future development and prosperity. As a consequence of successful commercialization efforts, unwavering government support and growing interest overseas, the future of cultural blending looks brighter and more secure than ever before.考研英语作文必背范文18From the information given in the above column chart, we can see a striking contrast in mobile-phone subscriptions between developing and developed countries from 2000 to 2008. During this period, there has been a dramatic increase from 0.4 to 4 billion mobile phone subscriptions in developing countries, while that of developed countries remained steady under 1 billion during the decade. At least two fundamental factors could contribute to this phenomenon. On the one hand, with the rapid increase in economy happening in the developing countries, the telecommunication industry in those countries got a great bound to meet the demand of globalization. As a result, the user of mobile phone which can narrow the distance between people and link the whole world together rose at an incredible speed. On the other hand, the extremely advanced civilization of developed countries means less potential in many aspects including in the area of private telecommunication tools and their demand for further enlargement of such tools tend to saturation. In conclusion, while mobile phones subscriptions, if used carelessly or without restraint, could prove to be a double-edged sword, the fact remains that it is already extremely prevalent in both developing and developed countries and even today, continue rise in popularity. Given the levels of intelligence, prudence and discretion imbued in people, I am sure that most of them willbe able to sidestep the potential drawbacks of mobile phones, while taking advantage of all its merits.考研英语作文必背范文19As is subtly revealed in the cartoons above, global warming is a real threat to our world. In the first drawing, the glaciers in the polar region are rapidly melting owing to global warming. In the second picture, a homeless polar bear is staying on an isolated big block of ice.The purpose of these portrayals is to show us that global warming is a looming threat to people all over the world. To begin with, global warming leads to the rise of sea levels. Large sections Chinese coastal regions would gradually disappear under rising sea levels because of global warming, severely impairing the country’s social and economic progress. China’s long coastline is the base for about 70% of the large cities, over half of the domestic population and nearly 60% of the national economy. With comparatively-advanced social, economic and cultural develo pments, China’s off-shore regions will suffer great losses if the sea level does not cease rising. In addition, global warming increases the possibility and intensity of extreme weather such as hurricanes and snowstorms. Hurricanes and typhoons have become stronger and longer-lasting over the past 30 years. These upswings correlate with a rise in sea surface temperatures due to global warming.Taking into account the devastating effects of global warming, we can draw the conclusion that global warming is a great threat to our world. Facing the growing menace of global warming, more scientific and active preventive measures should be taken on a larger scale to change for the better.考研英语作文必背范文20As is symbolically illustrated in the picture, a lovely baby is sleeping comfortably on the beautiful earth with a little bird singing over him. In the drawing, a huge green umbrella shelters the baby and the earth from the threatening outside world. The caption indicates that we should advocate low carbon economy and cherish the earth. The painter aims at reminding us the relationship between low carbon economy and environmental protection. In the first place, low carbon economy is crucial to sustainable economic development. Economic expansion causes irreparable damage to our environment. A fragile ecological environment, insufficient environmental capacity and shortage of resources are becoming critical problems hindering the world’s development. If we want to achieve sustainable development, environmental protection should be integrated into our economic endeavors. Low carbon economy will have a direct impact on the overall situation of the world’s modernization drive and its long-term development. In the second place, environmental protection is in line with traditional Chinese culture. One of the core principles of traditional Chinese culture is to maintain harmony between man and nature. Many philosophies from Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism have emphasized the significance of a balanced environment. As an old Chinese saying goes, “Forefathers plant trees so future generations can enjoy the shade.” Protecting our environment and preserving a healthy environment for future generations goes hand in hand with Chinese culture.Generally speaking, low carbon economy is indispensable for sustainable development. Haunted by various environmental problems, we should put the low carbon economy at the core of our economic development plans and solve wide-ranging environmental problems before they evolve into environmental crisis.。

1.(2001)When we use the word “love”, we do not simply mean an attraction to a person of the opposite sex, which is a very narrow definition of the word. The picture below illustrates the real meaning of love, by stressing the fact that love is emotional strength, which can support us no matter how dark the world around us becomes. As a matter of fact, throughout history people of many different cultures have regarded love as the most sublime of human emotions. As an illustration of the power of love, we should remember how the Chinese people of all nationalities respond to the call to help the victims of the deadly earthquake in Qinghai Province. Although their incomes are still low by international standards, people all over the country do not hesitate to donate whatever they can——be it money or goods——to help their needy fellow citizens. Furthermore, they do this with no thought of gain for themselves. It is my view that the best way to show love is to help people who are more unfortunate than we are. We should always be ready to give a helping hand to those who are in trouble, no matter whether they are family members or complete strangers. Only by doing so can we help to make the world a better place, for, as the picture shows, the darker the shadow s of sorrow become, the more brightly the lamp of love shines. (241 words)2.(2004)It is vividly depicted in the cartoon that a boy is running along the racetrack with painstaking efforts, sweat pouring down his face. After a long journey, he is making the final spurt toward the finishing line, with strong determination to become a champion. It seems that he could rest for a while to enjoy the ecstasy of victory. However, straight ahead lies a sign which indicates a new “starting point” and urges him to continue rushing to the next destination.Undoubtedly, the cartoon conveys the meaning that life is like the process of running in which one should make constant efforts and never stop making progress. Owing to the quickening pace of life, competition goes increasing fierce in all walks of life, stimulating everyone to pursue one goal after another. Once a person stops making progress, he can hardly maintain his past glory and survive in this competitive world. As Deng Xiaoping, the great Chinese leader said, “Development is inarguable truth.” No matter how powerful a specific institution is, it will definitely seek new development in high speed. Generally speaking, neither a country nor a person can remain stagnant.A case in point is the successful launching of “Shenzhou ⅦSpacecraft”which sets China in a high position of aviation and space flight. Although it means a great achievement for us Chinese, we are facing new challenges in the forthcoming future and need to do further research in space technology. Another illustration is closely related to us, the examinees. If we pass this test and are confronted with the challenge of conquering the difficult graduate courses. We still have to strive for success in our future academic study, employment and career. On the whole, these examples effectively clarify the saying that “destination is another starting point.” (296 words)3.As is symbolically illustrated in the cartoon, a large number of people are surfing on line within a stretching spider web, either to entertain themselves or to meet the work's needs. Unfortunately, it seems rather ironic to present people separated from each other by the spider web when they attempt to communicate. Undoubtedly, the spider web serves as a symbol of Internet, both connecting people and isolating them from each other. The metaphorical and impressive portrayal has subtly revealed the duality of the relationshipbetween man and Internet. On the one hand, there is no denying that Internet is currently one of the most efficient media used for interpersonal communication. As a college student, I get on line every day to discuss news with other people on BBS, to study English by registering for web courses, to chat freely through MSN Messenger with my friends. But on the other hand, a good many people admit that they are too much addicted to Internet to maintain face-to-face contact with their friends and colleagues. Once indulged in the fictitious world, people feel reluctant to approach others and to concentrate on real life. That's why some people have lost the skill of direct contact and get alienated from others.Hence, it is necessary for us to use Internet in a reasonable way and restrain from overindulgence. After all, Internet is invented to connect you and me, and to bring conveniences to our life rather than set a barrier to keep people beyond reach. (249words)4.As is symbolically illustrated in the portrayal, there is a boiling hot pot containing various ingredients of multi-cultures. Everybody not only needs love, but also should give others love. As can be seen from the picture, "love is a lamp which is brighter in darker places. " This is indeed true. People in darker places need more light than other people. Maybe even a dim light can give them much hope for a better life. Maybe just a thread of light will call forth their strength and courage to help them step out of their difficulties.[7.举例段] I can think of no better illustration of this idea than the following example(s).For instance when someone is starving to death, just a little foodand water from you may save his(her) life. Again, when a little girl in a poor rural area drops out of school because of poverty, just a small sum of money from you may support her to finish school and change her life. In these case/circumstances you have given love which is like a lamp in a dark place where light is most needed.[8.归纳结论段] To sum up, we should offer our help to all the needed. We expect to get love from others and we also give love to others. So when you see someone in difficulty or in distress and in need of help, don't hesitate to give your love to him (her). I believe that the relationship between people will be harmonious and that our society will be a better place for us to live in. 2. 空气污染(隐形杀手)[2.图画/图表描述段] Pollution is becoming more and more serious all over the world. As is shown in the cartoon, two cars are giving off waste gas and three people are trying to avoid breathing in the poisonous gas by masking their face with their hands. The poisonous gas sent off by factories, domestic appliances and automobiles has made the air unhealthy for people to breathe.[5.意义阐述段] There is no denying that automobiles are indications of civilization, progress and development; nevertheless , automobiles cause the serious problem of air pollution. Scientists have warned that unless effective measures are taken, the problem of pollution will eventually get out of hand.Actually, people are showing a real concern over the problem. For example, there is an increasingly loud voice from the public for firm action against pollution from automobiles.[10建议措施段]Indeed, the earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselves and for our descendants. In my opinion, we should work out concrete solutions to the problem of pollution from poisonous gas given off by automobiles. For example, the automobiles should be equipped with a device which can dispose of waste gas so as to prevent it from polluting air. Only in this way can we really solve the problem of air pollution caused by automobiles. 3. 沙漠化[2.图画/图表描述段]As is shown in the picture, we can see clearly the relation ship between people and desert. In the left hand picture, people are fleeing from greedy sand hills because they cut down all the trees. The caption reads, ”As the sand advances, we retreat.” In the right hand picture, the people have returned carrying tools, water, and young trees to plant the land again. The caption reads: “As we advance, the sand retreats. ”[5.意义阐述段]It seems to me that the cartoonist is sending a message about the importance of trees in water and soil conservation and the need for everyone to fight against the danger of the desertification. In fact, what he is saying is that thesand hills will drive away from the land if we do fight against the sand. If we let this situation continue as it is , our environment will suffer a great destruction.[10.建议措施段]The best way to fight back against the greedy desert in made clear in the second picture. There the local people are actively setting about the task of planting trees to reclaim the land and make it fertile. The fact that there are three people in the picture, each with a different job suggests that working together is the key to success in the battle against soil erosion.4. 商业捕鱼(00年真题)A Brief History of World Commercial Fishing[2.图表描述段] As is shown in the pictures ,with the increase of commercial fishing ,the number of fishes dramatically(sharply) decreased .In one pictures ,there were various kinds of fish and only one fishing-boat in 1900 .On the contrary ,in1995 there was only one fish ,with many fishing-boats.[5.意义阐述段] The purpose of this picture is to showus that due (great enough) attention has to be paidto the decrease (decline) of ocean resources .Owingto over-fishing the number of fishes has obviously dropped .If we let this situation go (continue) as itis ,we do not know where fish will be in the future .By that time ,our environment will suffer a great destruction .[10.建议措施段] Therefore ,it is imperative for us to take drastic (effective) measures .For one thing ,we should appeal to our authorities to make strict lawsto control commercial fishing .For another ,we shouldenhance(imperative arouse) the awareness of people that the ocean resources are very vital to us .Only in this way can we protect our ocean resources .Also I believe that we humans can overcome this difficulty ,and we will have a brighter future .第二部分图表作文(三篇)5. 人口增长对野生动物的影响(99年真题)[2.图画/图表描述段] From these graphs, we can drawa conclusion that, with the growth of human population, the number of species has decreased rapidly in America, and some species have even vanished from our planet.[6.原因列军段]Why does this phenomenon appear? There are several possible reasons for this. Above all, as the human population grows rapidly, a growing number of people came to live where some wild species have been living. Then these species have to move to other places. Some of them probably can not adapt to the new environment and die. In addition, although many people look on the wildlife as their friends, some people may not think so. They catch a lot of wild animals and sell them in order to get more money. Even worse(坏)/More importantly(好), as the result(中性) /consequence (贬义)of the industry, the natural balance and the ecologic environment are destroyed. The clear cutting has become increasingly serious. So some of the wildlife become homeless and extinct.[10.建议措施段]In order to protect the wildlife, I have some suggestions. First, the governments shouldmake laws to prevent them from being caught and killed. Second, the governments should educate people to love nature and protect it. Third, as for ourselves, we should take practical actions to protect our living environment.6 烟草生产和消费(01年大纲样题)[1.现象/现状说明段]The majority of people would agree that cigarette smoking has caused serious problems. But the tobacco companies insist that they contribute greatly to the world economy by paying taxes to the government and employing hundreds of workers.[4.利弊说明段]Personally, I believe that cigarette production and consumption threatens to do more harm than good. Firstly, smoking is responsible for many fatal diseases such as lung cancer, heart diseases and so on. According to the survey, tobacco consumers account for about 20% of the world population, and among them, three million people die from smoking-related diseases every year. The fact that the output of tobacco production is reduced from 143.64 billion pounds in 1994 to 142 billion pounds in 1995 also suggests that people have come to realize the negative effects of smoking. Secondly, tobacco consumption is extremely wasteful of money. As is indicated in the pictures, 200 billion US dollars is lost due to smoking each year. Obviously, the total loss of money around the globe substantially exceeds the gain in the industry.[8.归纳结论段]In conclusion, as the economic development aims at making our life better, we cannot sacrifice our health for short-term financialbenefits. If we have to spend more and more money providing medical services for those who suffer from smoking-related illnesses, the notion of promoting economy via tobacco production is not justifiable. It is high time that we fought for the total tobacco ban.7. 日用花销统计Statistics in People's Daily Expenses in Xi'anYearItem 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 Food 66% 61% 48% 41% 36%Clothing 9% 10% 12% 15% 18% Recreation 4% 5% 8% 9% 11%[2.图画/图表描述段]What is shown in the table above indicates that dramatic changes have taken place in the daily expenses in Xi' an from 1995 to 1999. The expenses on food have declined by 30% while those on clothing and recreation have increased respectively by 9% and 7%. The statistics of rise and fall seem to exist in isolation but closely related to one another.[6.原因列军段]There are two factors accounting for these changes. Development in economy is an essential one in the five years. The increased income resulting from economic growth plays an important part in the less expense on food. Hence, a small percentage of total income is enough to cover food expense. Another one is the changes in life style. When food presents no worry to the average, people begin to focus more of interest on handsome appearance and happy leisure time. As a result of such a shift, spending on clothing and recreation increased year after year.[9.趋势预测段]From the analyses made above, wemay come to the conclusion that people's living standards in Xi' an have been constantly improved between 1995 and 1999. With the further growth in economy and more changes in life style, the tendency indicated in the table will continue in the table will continue in the better direction.第三部分事务信函(三篇)8.咨询信A letter of InquiryYou wish to study at a certain foreign university. Write a letter inquiring about the situation there as regards accommodation, fees and qualifications.Dear SirI am a Chinese citizen who wishes to study at your university. My plan is to start my course next term, and I would be grateful if you would be kind enough to provide me with certain essential information. First, what qualifications do I need to follow a course of study at your university? I already have a master’s degree from a university here in China, but I wonder if there are any further academic requirements. Second, how much are the tuition fees? Although I intend to be self – supporting, I would be interested to hear if there are any scholarships available for international students. Third, what is the situation as regards accommodation? I would prefer a single room, which is more conducive to studying, but if single rooms are expensive, I would be willing to share.I look forward to your reply, and to attending youresteemed institution.Yours sincerely,Li Ming9. 请求信 A Letter of RequestYou find that your study load is too heavy. Write a letter to your college teacher explaining why you need to withdraw from two courses. Ask if it is possible to obtain a refund.Dear Prof. James,I am writing to formally request to withdraw from two courses: Introduction to Elementary Education (EDU 602) and Teaching Methods (EDU 619).The main reason for reducing my course load is that I am finding it extremely difficult to manage six courses. In the beginning of the term, I was perhaps overly optimistic about juggling both my full – time studies and my part – time job (20 hours/week). Because I really must work part time, I have no other choice but to decrease my course load. I am planning on taking the two courses during the summer semester, if they are available, so that I will be able to complete all the courses for the degree program by the following year.I would also like to request a tuition refund, and hope I am not too late to receive the full reimbursement. Iam sorry for any inconveniences I have caused by this change in plans. This decision was not taken lightly, and I do appreciate the king consideration you have shown to me.Thank you for your attention to these requests. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 277-9144. I look forward to hearing from you soon.Sincerely yours,Jane Carter10.建议信 A Letter of Advice/Suggestion You have a friend who is about to enter university, and he wants you to advise him on which subject to specialize in – history, in which he is very interested, or computer science, which offers better job prospects.Dear John,You have asked me for my advice concerning whether you should study history or computer science at university, and I will try to make some useful suggestions. You must keep in mind that, above all, your university training is a preparation for your future career. Therefore, your first consideration should be to study a subject which will best equip you to earn a living. There is no doubt that the field of computers offers far job opportunities than history.Besides, we are now in the age of the high - technology revolution. For the foreseeable future, not only will it be necessary for everyone to be computer - literate, it will also be necessary for them to be equipped with computer skills merely to earn a living! History, I'm afraid, however fascinating it may be, offers few career prospects.Of course, you don't have to devote all your time at university to studying computers and nothing else. On the contrary, I would recommend that you keep up your reading of history in your spare time. That way, you will find that your leisure hours are enriched while you prepare yourself for a worthwhile career in computers. Yours sincerely,James—————————————————————————————全世界都可以放弃,只是不能没有你的消息……垃圾丁于2004年9月15日/辽宁.鞍山整理11。

1.College Students Should Attend Physical ExercisePhysical exercise is a necessary part of college life. However, still some college students do not like to attend sports activities, they think those activities waste their time and influence their study. Indeed, it is very unwise for college students to keep distance from physical exercise because physical exercise is not harmful but good to them.College students can benefit a lot from physical exercise. First of all, attending physical sports can help students build a strong body, and keep abounding energy. Moreover, physical exercise is an effective way to release pressure and keep a pleasant mood. Besides, by attending physical activities, students can have chances to contact and communicate with others which can help them improve their social skills.Nowadays, all colleges and universities have provided many sports facilities for students to do physical exercises, students can chose freely according to their interests and needs. As for me, I am keen on all kinds of ball games, especially football and basketball. From these games, I have gained a lot, and enjoined great pleasure. To conclude, physical exercise is beneficial to every college students, and therefore do not hesitate to attend sports activities.2. Online GamesAs a product of modern computer and the Internet, online games have become very popular among college students. Many students have enjoyed great pleasure and satisfaction from these games. But as we see, some students lacking self discipline on too much indulge in these games, so that their health and academic performances are affected. This phenomenon has caused much worry from the teachers and parents. However, some others argue that online games are not always harmful. They can train their ability of youngsters to respond to things quickly. Moreover, they can stimulate their imagination and their interest in computer science. More importantly, it does bring college students much pleasure and release their pressure greatly.Form my point of view, online games are a wonderful entertainment if you play them in a clever way. When they interfere too much with your study, it is better for you to give them up at once, but if you have enough self control over them, you can certainly obtain real pleasure and benefit a lot from them.3. PatriotismPatriotism has been one of the great national spirits. It makes one ready to sacrifice his life for his country and to do many other deeds that can bring benefits to the people. Throughout history, it is just great patriotism that has helped a country win the wars, and survive the disasters. It is just great patriotism that has made a country strong, and made her history glorious. In modern society, though our country has been 9in peaceful development, patriotism is still necessary. However, it has many new meanings and expressing ways. Firstly, in the new period of the socialism development, a patriot must be devoted to the construction of socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics. Secondly, facing economi c globalization, a patriot must try to safeguard the nation’s interests on the basis of opening-up strategies of mutual benefit. Thirdly, patriotism embodies in the support of national reunification. Finally, love and respect for work is also oneimportant reflection of patriotism. As a college student in the 21st century, every one of us has responsibility to love our country. For one thing, we must study hard to obtain more knowledge to contribute to the construction of our motherland. For another, we must keep informed of current affairs and show concern to the national economy and the people’s livelihood. A patriotic college student must discard the mind of “Two ears can not hear out of the window”.4. How to Deal with Peer Pressure?College students are often obsessed by peer pressure from their classmates or schoolmates. Facing others’ hard work and good performance in academic and other aspects, many students feel great pressure. Then, how to deal with this kind of peer pressure? The following measures can be taken. First, you should take a careful look at your present level and set a practical object. You needn’t always compare yourselves with those on the top and just make your efforts towards your object. Second, under peer pressure, you shouldn’t feel discouraged and pressed. Instead, you should make it your motivation for harder work. Finally, if you find pressure is nearly beyond your control, you’d better turn to professional psychological guidance. As a college student, I have no way to avoid peer pressure, so I try to figure out the way to do with it well. I set my own goal, including my practical level and my position among the peers. Because of my focus on my own goal, I have no time and energy to think about the pressure. So I’m little tr oubled by it. To conclude, we should not escape from peer pressure, but learn to make best use of it, since it can hardly be avoided.5. Should College Students be Tutors?Nowadays there are more and more provided tutors among college students. Some students even take a few tutor jobs at the same time. People have different opinions about this phenomenon. Some people believe college students can benefit a lot from being tutors. On the one hand they can earn some money and lessen the burden on their family. On the other hand they can have chances to apply their knowledge to the solution to the practical problems. However still others object to college students being a tutor. They think that a student should focus on his study instead of doing a part-time job. If they spend too much time on teaching, they will not have enough time to study, and naturally their academic performance will be affected.Weighing the two arguments, I’m in favor of the former one. In my opinion, to be a tutor is a good practical activity for us college students, from which we can gain practical experience and skills. But it is worth noting that we cannot spend too much time in being tutors. We should balance the relationship between the tutor job and study.6. Welcome to the camera ClubWelcome to the camera club. With the sponsor of the student’s union, the camera club has been set and served all the students for 15 years. Many wonderful activities are organized and arranged in our club. What you need to do is just to call us at 62514479 or email us at cameraclub@. Looking forward to your participation!7. Extravagant Spending on College CampusAccording to a survey, in recent years, the monthly expenditure of a college student has been on the sharp rise. Many college students spend money like water and have no concept of thrift in their mind. They take it for granted that they spend money from their parents before they enter into society. This extravagant spending is mainly caused by the following factors.First of all, nowadays, most students are the only children of their families. They are the apple in their family’s eyes and naturally get m ore care and pocket money. Secondly, with the improvement of living standards, parents can afford higher expenditures of their children. Thirdly, some students like to pursue fashion and trends, which tends to need more money. Finally, campus love is also a possible factor causing extravagant spending.Form my point of view, a college student as a pure consumer should learn to be thrifty we should limit our expenditure on barely necessities but not buy whatever we want, regardless of their prices. The habit of thrift can help us form right values and is favorable to our future development.8. A Quarrel in the DormitoryWeeks ago I witnessed the quarrel between my two roommates. It shocked me the two good friends fired out just for a very trifling matter. It was in the morning at weekend when I was washing my face in the bathroom. Suddenly I heard Ann and Sue shouting at each other. I hurried to come out to see what happened. It turned out that the noise of Sue’s closing the door waked Ann, whose bed is just beside the door. Ann thought Sue deliberately closed the door heavily. Sue didn’t have made her fault and said Ann was making trouble out of nothing. So their argument became ambits of quarrel. Though later they stopped quarreling under our persuasion, neither of them would like apologize to the other.Such a quarrel leaves me to think a lot about dormitory harmony. If either Ann or Sue can be a little tolerant or take a better way to express herself, this quarrel, I think, can be avoided easily. It is no doubt that a harmony dormitory life benefits all the members. But it needs our common efforts to build it.9. Students’ Pursuit for Famous BrandsNowadays many college students like to pursue famous brands. From clothes to mobile phones, even study articles like electronic dictionaries and pens, they areinclined to buy famous brands. Moreover, many students from poor families begin to follow this consumption trend as well. This phenomenon has aroused wide attention. The following reasons can account for college students’ preference for famous brands. Above all, in many college students’ eyes, a famous brand is a symbol of sophistication and taste. They expect others to admire their high class and good taste. What’s more, in modern society, famous brands to some extent are equal to fashion, which has a great attraction to young college students. Besides, parents’ spoiling their children helps form their bad consumption habit. As far as I am concerned, it is irrational for college students to pursue famous brands. After all, most of famous brands are far beyond their consumption ability. Besides, it is not famous brands but a person’s noble charact er that really makes him high class. Therefore, college students should attach more importance to cultivating a good character rather than pursuing famous brands.10. Our Schoolmate Is in Need of Your HelpJuly 23, 2008Dear schoolmates,I’m writing this l etter to call on all the students in our university to help Sun Lei, one of our schoolmates in Business Management Department. As you may know, most areas in Guangxi province are suffering form the flood. In fact, Sun Lei comes from the most serious stricken city in Guangxi. It’s very necessary for us to show our lo0ve and help to him. On the one hand, all the property of his family was washed away by the flood. On the other hand, he is in great need of money to pay the tuition fee. So, it is high time that we gave a hand to him and pulled him through. The first nut for us to crack is to donate money to him as soon as possible. Then, we could do our utmost to persuade our department leaders to relieve his tuition fee, concerning his particular situation. If you are willing to give him a hand, please contact us at the number 23533316 in the daytime. Just as the old saying goes, two heads are better than one. Please join us in the action and extend your love into a spirit that dares any possible difficulties!Thank you!Students’ Union11. The University’s Branch Campuses in Suburban AreasIn recent years more and more universities have built up their branch campuses in suburban areas. Now it is very difficult to find a university without a branch campus. Maybe no one can tell clearly when the first branch campus came out, but the reasons behind this phenomenon are obvious.Among these reasons, the enrollment expansion of universities plays a very vital role. As more and more freshmen are remitted to universities, the original facilities, including classrooms, apartments, dining houses, laboratories and the like, are not enough any more. What’s more, the land in the suburb is relatively low in price, which is affordable for most universities. Besides, the quiet environment in suburban areas is more suitable for students to study. As a college student, I think, it is necessary and beneficial for many universities to build up a branch campus. However the building of branch campuses brings someproblems. For one thing, the students in some branch campuses cannot enjoy good enough facilities and the teachers due to limited resources. For another it leads to less direct communications among teachers and students. Therefore the university should take a full account before it decides to build up a branch campus.12. Young People Should Have Ideals“What are you going to do when you grow up?” When I was a child, people often asked me this question about the ideal. Undoubtedly, every individual, especially a young person, should have an ideal. Hardly can we find any great people we know ideal when they were young. An ideal is a vital importance to one’s growth and success. On the one hand, an ideal is the target of one’s life. Once you decide what your ideal is, you know where to go, and which way to take. Otherwise, you might become puzzled in many things in your life. On the other hand, an ideal is like the engine of vehicles. Only when we have our own ideals, can we find the origin of energy and enthusiasm in life, and become active and perseverant.Whatever your ideal is, careful plan and preparation is vital to its realization. Of course, the path from where you are to where you want to get is not always smooth and straight. Therefore, an optimistic, positive mind is indispensable in the process of your persevering your ideal. In a word, only if you have an ideal will you have the chance of realizing it.13. A Letter Applying for a Bank LoanSep 12th, 2008To whom it may concern,I am a freshman of Lianhe University, majoring in Applied Physics. I am writing in the hope that I may obtain a bank loan to support my study in Applied Physics for the following four years. My parents are both laid-off workers, so it’s beyond their power to finance me through the college education. To make matters worse, my mother has suddenly fallen ill and is expecting a major operation. the college tuition becoming a much heavier burden on my family, I am compelled to apply for a RMB20,000 bank loan.I give you my p romise that the loan would be used properly. Meanwhile, I’ll spare no effort to work hard both in the study and my future career so as to pay back the loan. I would be greatly obliged if my application is granted. And I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.Sincerely yours,Song Xue14. Study and Work-study ProgramNowadays, more and more college students are taking part in work-study programs in their spare time. Many of them choose to be a tutor or doing a part-time job in school dining room or library. Also some others do a part-time delivering man or promotion specialist or other jobs alike. There are mainly three different reasons for college students to take work-study program. First, to earn money is the main aim of many students, they want to relieve the burden on their family by doing a part-time job. Second, some students takework-study programs as a channel by which they know the society and improve their practical skills. Third, still other students doing part-time job just for fun or kill time. From my point of view, it goes without saying that college students can benefit a lot from work-study programs. However, those students who get part-time jobs should keep it in mind that study is prior to anything else. Besides, they should spend their income from part-time job reasonably.15. How to Build an Ideal Teacher-Student RelationshipThe relationship between a teacher and the student can be either good or bad, helpful or harmful. Either way, the relationship may affect the student for the rest of his life. A good teacher-student relationship will make learning enjoyable and efficient, and make the teacher’s job worthwhile. In contrast, a bad relationship can discourage the students from learning, and make teaching an unpleasant task. But how to build an ideal teacher-student relationship? First of all, the teacher and the student should respect each other, which is the precondition about good relationship. Moreover the teacher’s attitude plays an important role. If the teacher is too strict, it might frighten the student. On the other hand, if the teacher is too permissive, the student may become lazy. Besides, the teacher should give the student encouragement, as well as have patients and understanding. Finally, as for the student, he should be eager for knowledge and willing to work hard. If he learns from his teacher modestly, he will be able to profit fully from his teacher’s teaching. In conclusion, a good teacher-student relationship need common efforts from both the teacher and the student, and it can be mutually beneficial. The student gains knowledge enjoyably and the teacher gains satisfaction from his teaching job.16. Champion SpokespersonNowadays, we often can see that some champions in the college entrance examination speak for some products. This phenomenon has sparked much debate. Some people think it will create a win-win situation for a champion to be a spokesperson since it can bring profits for both the producer and the champion himself or herself. Besides, these models in study get publicized, which to some extent will stimulate other students to study hard. However, other people object to this strongly. They insist that this behavior should be banned because in most cases the champion has not used the product they speak for. Furthermore, if a champion is paid too much attention to or is of ten exposed to the media, it is not good for his or her growth.Weighing up the pros and cons, I prefer to the latter opinion. In my opinion, a spokesperson must be responsible for the product he or she speaks for, but the young champion is not mature enough to do this. Besides, to be a champion in the college entrance examination does n’t mean the student has made final success. Attending the speaking activities will influence his or her normal study. Therefore, I think the champions’ speaking behaviors should not be encouraged.17. An Invitation LetterJune 15th, 2008Dear Xue Feng,This June 30th I am going to graduate, so I want to hold a party on Saturdayevening in my house. It would be pleasant to have you here.So interesting will this party be that you can’t afford to miss it. For one thing, we will have a big meal, sing the popular songs and play games. For another, it also provides a good opportunity for you to meet many friends that you haven’t seen for a long time. What an important thing it is for me to get your participation. First, you are my best friend and bring home to me many things. Second, we haven’t seen each other for quite a long time and I am eager to see you. The party would not be complete without you.The party will begin at seven thirty p.m. Is it possible for us to see you at seven on Saturday evening in my house? I do hope you can come.Sincerely yours,Ma Yuan18. Skipping Classes on College CampusIn colleges and universities, the phenomenon of students skipping classes is not unusual. There are often some students who skip those classes for feeling unwell or other private reasons. Besides, still some students don’t go to class without any reason but for they don’t want to.There are two main reasons for college students skipping classes. First, compared with in middle school, students have more freedom in college. It depends more on one student’s consciousness whether he will attend the class. So those students lacking self-discipline begin to skip classes. Second, some teachers’ lectures could not at tract students’ interests, so that some students would rather skip classes to study what they are interested in.For whatever reasons, skipping classes does bring negative effects on students’ study. Therefore, it is necessary to take some effective measures to reduce this phenomenon. On the one hand, the school and teachers should make students realize the negative effects of skipping classes and enhance their consciousness of attending the class. On the other hand, teachers have to improve their teaching quality to attract students’ interests in the courses. Only in this way can the phenomenon of skipping classes be reduced as soon as possibly.19. A Boom in Continuing EducationFrom the graph, we can learn the number of the Continuing Education participation has kept increasing from 1992 to 2007 in X city. In 1992 there were only thirty thousand people taking part in the Continuing Education, but in 1995 the number grown to 60 thousand ,and in 2000, one hundred and 40 , and by to 2007, the number has reached two hundred and teen thousand . It can be seen easily that Continuing Education is gaining more and more popularity. The following reasons are responsible for this boom in continuing education. Firstly, during the work many people begin to realize what they have learned in school is far from enough. So they turn to continuing education to gain more knowledge and skills. Moreover, as the science and technology in China are developing very fast, adults after graduation have to refresh themselves. In addition, in modern society, those without bachelor’s degrees or above are less competitive. As far as I am concerned the Boom in Continuing Education is a necessity. Improvise those under job people with transcends to get advanced degrees and gain more knowledge. As our society develops, more and more people will receive continuing education in the future.20. Is it Good to Write about Martial Arts Novels in the Textbooks?Recently, the compiling group of the Chinese textbooks has made a decision that some parts of a martial arts novel would be selected as one of the texts. This has sparked off a heated debate. Some people think that it is a good idea. They say the martial arts novels are also a good literature type and should be included in the textbooks. However, others are strongly against this decision. They say it will do no good to students because these novels sing the praises for nothing but fighting and revenge. In my opinion, it is not reasonable to select the text from a marital arts novel. Firstly, the main theme of these novels is revenge. Secondly, the characters do nothing but fight with each other. It seems they needn’t make a living. Thirdly, there are all kinds of factions in the novels. Students who have not established their values and outlook of life will be affected by these ideas. Therefore, I insist that these novels should be removed from the textbook. Some good materials should be selected to instruct the students to form the correct outlook of life.21. Is This the Way to Relieve the Burden of Students? In order to relieve the burden of students in primary and high school, the Ministry of Education has decided to force the schools to close on weekends. But contrary to the good intention, many parents have employed family tutors for their children. This behavior has aroused heated discussion. Some people criticize these parents strictly because they think excessive pressure will injure children both physically and mentally. They hold that health is o the first importance to children. However, many other people hold the opposite opinion. They stand by these parents. They say nowadays children are faced with great pressure from their schoolwork and employment. These parents want to help their children win in the stating line, which is a wise doing.Weighing up the pros and cons, I don’t think it is advisable for parents to employ family tutors for their children learning is not the only thing for a student. Too heavy burden is unfavorable to the healthy growth of a child. In my opinion, instead of placing a lot of pressure on the children, parents and teachers should make sure that the children make the best use of class time, leaving more free time for them to go in for other activities.22. Machine Translation and Human TranslationIn recent years, all kinds of electronic dictionaries and translation software have been developed. With the development of technology, these electronic dictionaries and software can help us translate not only words and phrases, but even sentences and paragraphs. So some people come to the conclusion that machine translation will replace traditional human translation. However, I couldn’t agree with this argument.Admittedly, translation machines and software bring much convenience for our study and work. With them, we needn’t bother to live through the heavy dictionaries. However, machine translation has its disadvantages. First, generally speaking, translation software only can give direct translation, which is sometimes not in accordance with the original articles in logic and meaning. Second, some people depend on electronic dictionaries and software too much, which is unfavorable to their improvement in language ability.Considering the above mentioned, I think that machine translation cannot replace human translation, but it is a good complementary to human translation. Therefore, we should combine machine translation with human translation efficiently.23.How to Make Full Use of Reference Books?Nowadays reference books have become a problem of great concern for both teachers and students. There are many kinds of reference books available in the book market. A smarter use of these books is certainly beneficial. But the misuse and over-use of them may cause a lot of problems.First of all, teaching reference books might make the students less attentive in class. Armed with reference books, many students may think that they know what the teacher is going to talk about. So they may not listen to the teacher in class at all. Secondly, some students rely on the reference books too much, which is unfavorable to the improvement of their ability to work out the solutions for themselves. Thirdly, there are some reference books with many mistakes, which might mislead the students.Considering the above mentioned, we should be careful in selecting and using reference books. Firstly, we should check the contents of the book carefully, but not only pay attention to the brand of the publishing house. In addition we can turn to the recommendation of teachers and students around us. Besides, reference books are just an assistant, so we shouldn’t rely on them too much. Only in this way can we make full use of reference books.24. University MergenceMergence is a new trend in university development. As a hot topic on and off campus, it has received much of public attention. People’s attitudes towards it vary greatly.People against it see it as a hasty decision, which has some potential problems. They claim, for instance, located far away from each other, universities involved with mergence are usually faced with the tough problem of management. But other people favor as an important step that Chinese universities take towards the goal of first-class university in the world. They argue that only through mergence can our universities give full play to their disadvantages. They also point out that university mergence will increase the competitive power of our universities in the world.Weighing the two arguments, I think, university mergence has more advantages than disadvantages. Mergence may bring the re-integration of resources of the universities and enable them to complement each other. It is beneficial to the development of both the universities and the students. But the universities, before deciding to merge, should take into account the potential dangers resulting from the mergence.25. Will Network Classrooms Replace Traditional Classrooms?。

It is a compound of aluminum, silica, and fluorine. Gem topaz is valuable. Jewelers call this variety of the stone “precious topaz”. The best-known precious topaz gems range in color from rich yellow to lightbrown or pinkish red. Topaz is one of the hardest gem minerals. In the mineral table of hardness, it has a rating of 8, which means that a knife cannot cut it, and that topaz will scratch quartz. The golden variety of precious topaz is quite uncommon. Most of the world’s topaz is white or blue. The white and blue crystals of topaz are large, often weighing thousands of carats. For this reason, the value of topaz does not depend so much on its size as it does with diamonds and many other precious stones, where the value increases about four times with each doubling of weight. The value of a topaz is largely determined by its quality. But color is also important: blue topaz, for instance, is often irradiated to deepen and improve its color.Blue topaz is often sold as aquamarine and a variety of brown quartz is widely sold as topaz. The quartz is much less brilliant and more plentiful than true topaz. Most of it is variety of amethyst: that heat has turned brown.新东方考研英语范文:icebergsicebergs are among nature’s most spec tacular creations, and yet most people have never seen one. a vague air of mystery envelops them. they come into being ----- somewhere ------in faraway, frigid waters, amid thunderous noise and splashing turbulence, which in most cases no one hears or sees. they exist only a short time and then slowly waste away just as unnoticed.objects of sheerest beauty they have been called. appearing in an endless variety of shapes, they may be dazzlingly white, or they may be glassy blue, green or purple, tinted faintly of in darker hues. they are graceful, stately, inspiring ----- in calm, sunlight seas.but they are also called frightening and dangerous, and that they are ---- in the night, in the fog, and in storms. even in clearweather one is wise to stay a safe distance away from them. most of their bulk is hidden below the water, so their underwater parts may extend out far beyond the visible top. also, they may roll over unexpectedly, churning the waters around them.icebergs are parts of glaciers that break off, drift into the water, float about awhile, and finally melt. icebergs afloat today are made of snowflakes that have fallen over long ages of time. they embody snows that drifted down hundreds, or many thousands, or in some cases maybe a million years ago. the snows fell in polar regions and on cold mountains, where they melted only a little or not at all, and so collected to great depths over the years and centuries.as each year’s snow accumulation lay on the surface, evaporation and melting caused the snowflakes slowly to lose their feathery points and become tiny grains of ice. when new snow fell on top of the old, it too turned to icy grains. so blankets of snow and ice grains mounted layer upon layer and were of such great thickness that the weight of the upper layers compressed the lower ones. with time and pressure from above, the many small ice grains joined and changed to larger crystals, and eventually the deeper crystals merged into a solid mass of ice.新东方考研英语范文:oil refiningan important new industry, oil refining, grew after the civil war. crude oil, or petroleum - a dark, thick ooze from the earth - had been known for hundreds of years, but little use had ever been made of it. in the 1850’s samuel m. kier, a manufacturer in western pennsylvania, began collecting the oil from local seepages and refining it into kerosene. refining, like smelting, is a process of removing impurities from a raw material.kerosene was used to light lamps. it was a cheap substitute for whale oil, which was becoming harder to get. soon there was a large demand for kerosene. people began to search for new supplies of petroleum.the first oil well was drilled by e.l. drake, a retired railroad conductor. in 1859 he began drilling in titusville, pennsylvania. the whole venture seemed so impractical and foolish that onlookers called it “drake’s folly”. but when he had drilled down about 70 feet (21 meters), drake struck oil. his well began to yield 20 barrels of crude oil a day.news of drake’s success brought oil prospect ors to the scene. by the early 1860’s these wildcatters were drilling for “black gold” all over western pennsylvania. the boom rivaled the california gold rush of 1848 in its excitement and wild west atmosphere. and it brought far more wealth to the prospectors than any gold rush.crude oil could be refined into many products. for some years kerosene continued to be the principal one. it was sold in grocery stores and door-to-door. in the 1880’s refiners learned how to make other petroleum products such as waxes and lubricating oils. petroleum was not then used to make gasoline or heating oil.新东方考研英语范文:Cohesion-tension TheoryAtmospheric pressure can support a column of water up to 10 meters high. But plants can move water much higher; the sequoia tree can pump water to its very top more than 100 meters above the ground. Until the end of the nineteenth century, the movement of water in trees and other tall plants was a mystery. Some botanists hypothesized that the living cells of plants acted as pumps. But many experiments demonstrated thatthe stems of plants in which all the cells are killed can still move water to appreciable heights. Other explanations for the movement of water in plants have been based on root pressure, a push on the water from the roots at the bottom of the plant. But root pressure is not nearly great enough to push water to the tops of tall trees. Furthermore, the conifers, which are among the tallest trees, have unusually low root pressures. If water is not pumped to the top of a tall tree, and if it is not pushed to the top of a tall tree, then we may ask: how does it get there? According to the currently accepted cohesion-tension theory, water is pulled there. The pull on a rising column of water in a plant results from the evaporation of water at the top of the plant. As water is lost from the surface of the leaves, a negative pressure, or tension, is created. The evaporated water is replaced by water moving from inside the plant in unbroken columns that extend from the top of a plant to its roots. The same forces that create surface tension in any sample of water are responsible for the maintenance of these unbroken columns of water. When water is confined in tubes of very small bore, the forces of cohesion (the attraction between water molecules) are so great that the strength of a column of water compares with the strength of a steel wire of the same diameter. This cohesive strength permits columns of water to be pulled to great heights without being broken.新东方考研英语范文: obtaining fresh water from icebergs the concept of obtaining fresh water from icebergs that are towed to populated areas and arid regions of the world was once treated as a joke more appropriate to cartoons than real life. but now it is being considered quite seriously by many nations, especially since scientists have warned that the human race willoutgrow its fresh water supply faster than it runs out of food.glaciers are a possible source of fresh water that has been overlooked until recently. three-quarters of the e arth’s fresh water supply is still tied up in glacial ice, a reservoir of untapped fresh water so immense that it could sustain all the rivers of the world for 1,000 years. floating on the oceans every year are 7,659 trillion metric tons of ice encased in 10000 icebergs that break away from the polar ice caps, more than ninety percent of them from antarctica.huge glaciers that stretch over the shallow continental shelf give birth to icebergs throughout the year. icebergs are not like sea ice, which is formed when the sea itself freezes, rather, they are formed entirely on land, breaking off when glaciers spread over the sea. as they drift away from the polar region, icebergs sometimes move mysteriously in a direction opposite to the wind, pulled by subsurface currents. because they melt more slowly than smaller pieces of ice, icebergs have been known to drift as far north as 35 degrees south of the equator in the atlantic ocean. to corral them and steer them to parts of the world where they are needed would not be too difficult.the difficulty arises in other technical matters, such as the prevention of rapid melting in warmer climates and the funneling of fresh water to shore in great volume. but even if the icebergs lost half of their volume in towing, the water they could provide would be far cheaper than that produced by desalinization, or removing salt from water.新东方考研英语范文:能源资源A summary of the physical and chemical nature of life must begin, not on the Earth, but in the Sun; in fact, at the Sun’s very center. It is here that is to be found the source of the energy thatthe Sun constantly pours out into space as light and heat. This energy is librated at the center of the Sun as billions upon billions of nuclei of hydrogen atoms collide with each other and fuse together to form nuclei of helium, and in doing so, release some of the energy that is stored in the nuclei of atoms. The output of light and heat of the Sun requires that some 600 million tons of hydrogen be converted into helium in the Sun every second. This the Sun has been doing for several thousands of millions of year. The nuclear energy is released at the Sun’s center as high-energy gamma radiation, a form of electromagnetic radiation like light and radio waves, only of very much shorter wavelength. This gamma radiation is absorbed by atoms inside the Sun to be reemitted at slightly longer wavelengths. This radiation, in its turn is absorbed and reemitted. As the energy filters through the layers of the solar interior, it passes through the X-ray part of the spectrum eventually becoming light. At this stage, it has reached what we call the solar surface, and can escape into space without being absorbed further by solar atoms. A very small fraction of the Sun’s light and heat is emitted in such d irections that after passing unhindered through interplanetary space, it hits the Earth.新东方考研英语范文:raising oystersin the oysters were raised in much the same way as dirt farmers raised tomatoes- by transplanting them. first, farmers selected the oyster bed, cleared the bottom of old shells and other debris, then scattered clean shells about. next, they ”planted” fertilized oyster eggs, which within two or three weeks hatched into larvae. the larvae drifted until they attached themselves to the clean shells on the bottom. there they remained and in time grew into baby oysters called seed or spat.the spat grew larger by drawing in seawater from which they derived microscopic particles of food. before long, farmers gathered the baby oysters, transplanted them once more into another body of water to fatten them up.until recently the supply of wild oysters and those crudely farmed were more than enough to satisfy people’s needs. but today the delectable seafood is no longer available in abundance. the problem has become so serious that some oyster beds have vanished entirely.fortunately, as far back as the early 1900’s marine biologists realized that if new measures were not taken, oysters would become extinct or at best a luxury food. so they set up well-equipped hatcheries and went to work. but they did not have the proper equipment or the skill to handle the eggs. they did not know when, what, and how to feed the larvae. and they knew little about the predators that attack and eat baby oysters by the millions. they failed, but they doggedly kept at it. finally, in the 1940’s a significant breakthrough was made.the marine biologists discovered that by raising the temperature of the water, they could induce oysters to spawn not only in the summer but also in the fall, winter, and spring. later they developed a technique for feeding the larvae and rearing them to spat. going still further, they succeeded in breeding new strains that were resistant to diseases, grew faster and larger, and flourished in water of different salinities and temperatures. in addition, the cultivated oysters tasted better!新东方考研英语范文:Telecommutingtelecommuting-- substituting the computer for the trip to the job ---- has been hailed as a solution to all kinds of problems related to office work.for workers it promises freedom from the office, less time wasted in traffic, and help with child-care conflicts. for management, telecommuting helps keep high performers on board, minimizes tardiness and absenteeism by eliminating commutes, allows periods of solitude for high-concentration tasks, and provides scheduling flexibility. in some areas, such as southern california and seattle, washington, local governments are encouraging companies to start telecommuting programs in order to reduce rush-hour congestion and improve air quality.but these benefits do not come easily. making a telecommuting program work requires careful planning and an understanding of the differences between telecommuting realities and popular images.many workers are seduced by rosy illusions of life as a telecommuter. a computer programmer from new york city moves to the tranquil adirondack mountains and stays in contact with her office via computer. a manager comes in to his office three days a week and works at home the other two. an accountant stays home to care for her sick child; she hooks up her telephone modern connections and does office work between calls to the doctor.these are powerful images, but they are a limited reflection of reality. telecommuting workers soon learn that it is almost impossible to concentrate on work and care for a young child at the same time. before a certain age, young children cannot recognize, much less respect, the necessary boundaries between work and family. additional child support is necessary if the parent is to get any work donemanagement too must separate the myth from the reality. although the media has paid a great deal of attention totelecommuting in most cases it is the employee’s situation, not the availability of technology that precipitates a telecommuting arrangement.that is partly why, despite the widespread press coverage, the number of companies with work-at-home programs or policy guidelines remains small.新东方考研英语范文: international business and in foreign investmentthe increase in international business and in foreign investment has created a need for executives with knowledge of foreign languages and skills in cross-cultural communication. americans, however, have not been well trained in either area and, consequently, have not enjoyed the same level of success in negotiation in an international arena as have their foreign counterparts.negotiating is the process of communicating back and forth for the purpose of reaching an agreement. it involves persuasion and compromise, but in order to participate in either one, the negotiators must understand the ways in which people are persuaded and how compromise is reached within the culture of the negotiation.in many international business negotiations abroad, americans are perceived as wealthy and impersonal. it often appears to the foreign negotiator that the american represents a large multi-million-dollar corporation that can afford to pay the price without bargaining further. the american negotiator’s role becomes that of an impersonal purveyor of information and cash.in studies of american negotiators abroad, several traits have been identified that may serve to confirm this stereotypical perception, while undermining the negotiator’s position. twotraits in particular that cause cross-cultural misunderstanding are directness and impatience on the part of the american negotiator. furthermore, american negotiators often insist on realizing short-term goals. foreign negotiators, on the other hand, may value the relationship established between negotiators and may be willing to invest time in it for long- term benefits. in order to solidify the relationship, they may opt for indirect interactions without regard for the time involved in getting to know the other negotiator.。

作文范文之新东方考研英语作文必背新东方考研英语作文必背【篇一:考研英语作文新东方内部必背50篇】01 the language of musica painter hangs his or her finished pictures on a wall, and everyone can see it.a composer writes a work, but no one can hear it until it is performed. professional singers and players have great responsibilities, for the composer is utterly dependent on them.a student of music needs as long and as arduous a training to become a performer as a medical student needs to become a doctor. most training is concerned with technique, for musicians have to have the muscular proficiency of an athlete or a ballet dancer. singers practice breathing every day, as their vocal chords would be inadequate without controlled muscular support. string players practice moving the fingers of the left hand up and down, while drawing the bow to and fro with the right arm—two entirely different movements.singers and instruments have to be able to get every note perfectly in tune. pianists are spared this particular anxiety, for the notes are already there, waiting for them, and it is the piano tuner’s responsibility to tune the instrument for them. but they have their own difficulties; the hammers that hit the string have to be coaxed not to sound like percussion, and each overlapping tone has to sound clear.this problem of getting clear texture is one that confronts student conductors: they have to learn to know every note of the music and how it should sound, and they have to aim at controlling these sound with fanatical but selfless authority.technique is of no use unless it is combined with musical knowledge and understanding. great artists are those who are so thoroughly at home in the language of music that they can enjoy performing works written in any century.01音乐的语言画家将已完成的作品挂在墙上,每个人都可以观赏到。

02 schooling and educationit is commonly believed in united states that school is where people go to get an education. nevertheless, it has been said that today children interrupt their education to go to school. the distinction between schooling and education implied by this remark is important.education is much more open-ended and all-inclusive than schooling. education knows no bounds. it can take place anywhere, whether in the shower or in the job, whether in a kitchen or on a tractor. it includes both the formal learning that takes place in schools and the whole universe of informal learning. the agents of education can range from a revered grandparent to the people debating politics on the radio, from a child to a distinguished scientist. whereas schooling has a certain predictability, education quite often produces surprises.a chance conversation with a stranger may lead a person to discover how little is known of other religions. people are engaged in education from infancy on. education, then, is a very broad, inclusive term. it is a lifelong process, a process that starts long before the start of school, and one that should be an integral part of one’s entire life.schooling, on the other hand, is a specific, formalized process, whose general pattern varies little from one setting to the next. throughout a country, children arrive at school at approximately the same time, take assigned seats, are taught by an adult, use similar textbooks, do homework, take exams, and so on. the slices of reality that are to be learned, whether they are the alphabet or an understanding of the working of government, have usually been limited by the boundaries of the subject being taught. for example, high school students know that there not likely to find out in their classes the truth aboutpolitical problems in their communities or what the newest filmmakers are experimenting with. there are definite conditions surrounding the formalized process of schooling.
