Hua Dian CaoFeiDian Heavy Industry Co. LTD

HuaDian CaoFeiDian Heavy Industry Co.LTD is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China HuaDian Engineering Co.LTD (CHEC), and is a major part of large-scale energy comprehensive projects launched at CaoFeiDian industrial area by CHEC. Its business includes the production, assembly and delivery and transport of large port machinery and equipments, large material handling equipments, and marine heavy industrial products.

The company occupies an total area of 800 mu with a costal line of 680 meters. The first phase of the project includes the construction of plant buildings of 80,000 square meters, a exclusive dock with a handling capacity of 30,000 tons, an open assembly yard of 120,000 square meters, 2000-ton slipway and electric power facilities, environmental equipments, living facilities and other supporting facilities. It can produce 40 large ship unloaders, container shore bridges, 25 bucket wheel stacker reclaimer and 15 circular stockyard stacker-reclaimer. Its subsidiary business includes the manufacture of shiploaders, car dumpers, environmental mining equipments and large rubber belt conveyers. The first phase of the project has been completed and put into operation. And the second phase of the project will develop the capability of producing and assembling coolers of air-cooling unit and marine heavy industrial equipments.

In our practical weeks, we came to the CaoFeiDian New Area, Tang Shan city. We visited HuaDian CaoFeiDian Heavy Industry Co. LTD; actually we visited its workshop. Wearing the safe hats and following the leaders of the production, we watched the machines operating, dangerous but exciting. Through this tour, we learned a lot new things which can not be found in our text books. It was an unforgettable experience.

Location

CaoFeiDian is 70 miles south of Tang Shan city, Hebei province. It was a ribbon island in the sea area of south Luannan county. The rectangle island covers a total area of 16 square kilometers with the south higher than the north and the center lower than the surroundings. A Tinagat was designed at the southern end of the island as a marine navigation mark. The soil on CaoFeiDian is mainly made up of sand. And it is 63 kilometers away from Luannan and 17 kilometers from the nearest continent. The island is famous for the Temple of CaoFei(Tang dynasty’s empire Li Shimin’s imperial concubine whose family name is cao). To the east, it is 33 sea miles from JingTang port, 230 kilometers from Beijing, 870 kilometers from Qingdao, 1300 kilometers from port of BeiLun and 300 kilometers from the port of DaLian.

General Outline of CaoFeiDian

The natural conditions of the port is quite good, and the depth of the water in front of, in the south and southwest of the island is considerable deep.600 meters away from the shore is the deep channel which is on the way of the main steam of the BoHai Bay. The years of natural forces’effect has made the port gain an advantage of deep water in the offshore water. The place 10 meters from the island is 200 to 500 meters from the isobath of 0 meter, and the water 500 meters from the band can be 20 to 30 meters deep. What is more, the sea area with a depth of 25 meters is directly extended to BoHai Bay, and there is no need to dig the waterway. With an average elevation of over 20 meters (the highest is more than 30 meters), CaoFeiDian has a 17 kilometers’alongshore line, and the central large-scale riffle is 0.6 to 2.7 meters higher than the sea level. Since it has such good meteorological, hydrological and geological conditions, the projects of developing and construction are usually small.

CaoFeiDian’s transportation is very convenient. The railway access to the CaoFeiDian port is connected with three national arterial railways, Jingshan railway, Jingqin(from Beijing to Qinhuangdao ) railway, and Daqin railway. In terms of highway transport, three expressways connected to each other, Jingshen(from Beijing to Shenyang), Tangjin(from Tangshan to Tianjin) and Tanggang(from Tangshan to Jintanggang Expressway), have access to the national freeway network, and 11 national highway and provincial highway. When it comes to water transportation, CaoFeiDian port is located in the central zone of the port cluster that surrounds the Bohai, and it has moderate distance from other ports, so it is convenient to transfer and transport on the water. In the economic circle surrounding Bohai, the economic hinterland of the CaoFeiDian port faces directly Jingjintang (Beijing,Tianjin and Tang Shan) economic circle and extends to northwest area. Its economic location has obvious superiority. And it is moderately placed among the deep water ports surrounding Bohai and eastern coastal area.
