Alibaba broke its sales record on China's Singles Day
E-commerce giant Alibaba has broken its own record for sales on China's Singles Day, the world's biggest online shopping event.
By the close of trade, the site had seen sales worth 91.2bn yuan, a 60% increase from last year.
Singles Day is held every year on 11 November. The day is also referred to as Double Eleven because of its date. Before 2009, it's only a ordinary day on which bachelors celebrate and comfort themselves. Just on Nov.11, 2009, the tmall online market began to hold promotional activities to let people know of tmall. Amazingly, this hazardous action became a river soon--small at first, narrowly contained within its banks and up to now forms a great wave which has shaken the whole online markets.
The reaction to China's Singles Day shopping bonanza reflects the drama and excitement of China's capitalist holiday. "I spent 2,000RMB last night" exclaimed one of consumers, "Now I'm going to have to eat dirt if I'm hungry because I'm broke!" Actuallt, lots of people bought things from online markets that overbalanced their budget. So,don't mistake the rush to spend as a sign the Chinese economy is turning around.
Many shoppers are well aware the economy is slowing. Double 11 is such a good course for sellers to boost to consumer demand. It is common for people to wait to spend on Singles Day to save money.
