1.In this increasingly internationalized world, festivals and traditions also become universal. More often than not, you can see western festivals like Christmas being celebrated in China. What’s your thought on it?

A: Hey, we’ve just celebrated Christmas. What did you do on that day? Did you attend a party or something like that?

B: Ah, why are so many people asking the same question over and over again? To tell the truth, I am not so crazy about Christmas and other western festivals like that and I did nothing special on Christmas day.

A: But many western festivals are of great fun and by celebrating them not only can we obtain more knowledge about western cultures but we can also spend more time with our friends especially foreign friends!

B: I don’t see eye to eye with you. You know, some western festivals are so strange that they just make me sick. Take Halloween for example. People are dressed up in strange clothes and even kids dress themselves up like ghosts! And there are also frightening vegetables such as pumpkins with eyes on them! I simply can’t stand it!

A:But there is also peaceful and nice festivals that are not so crazy. Like the Thanksgiving. It brings family members together and everyone gives thanks to somebody or something that has ever helped him or her. It’s a great festival, I think, because we all need to express our love and gratitude to those who once give a hand, not to speak of those who always stand by us. Gratitude is a virtue. And there is also Christmas, children are so eager to see the loving Santa Clause with gifts they want. And it’s just like fairytale coming to life! Don’t you agree with me on this point?

B: I’m afraid not. Anyway, I still think we should pay more attention on our traditional festivals. On the one hand, they represent our culture and thus are of more significance. On the other hand, as citizens of our country, we should do our utmost to protect our culture from the threat of western cultures.

A: but we can both celebrate our traditional festivals as well as western ones. Nowadays, many Chinese are under great pressure. Both western and Chinese festivals provide a chance for them to relax. So there is no contradiction at all!

B: no, actually there is. You see, more and more people are celeb rating the Valentine’s Day but only a few people celebrate the Chinese Valentine’s Day! What’s more, celebrating too many festivals is just so hard on the wallet!

A:OK, I agree with you. It dose cost a lot money, but we gain a lot of fun in return. So I will still celebrating western festivals.

B: and I will also stick to my way of life.

2.Some people say that military training is quite necessary for college students. Some others disagree. What do think of it? Give details to support your point of view.
