银行保函（LetterofGuarantee,LG）一、银行保函(Letter of Guarantee, L/G)根据申请人的要求向受益人开出的担保申请人正常履行合同义务的书面证明。

当申请人未能履行其所承诺的义务时，银行负有向受益人赔偿经济损失的责任。

由于银行信用代替或补充商业信用，保函的信用性更好，灵活性更强，因此被广泛地应用于国际结算的众多领域中，诸如贸易支付、工程承包、租金支付、资金借贷等等。

银行保函包括：履约保函、投标保函、预付款保函、维修保函等。

常见的履约保函是：应申请人的请求，向受益人所作出的一种履约保证承诺。

若履约责任人日后未按照合约办事，银行将向受益人支付一笔不超过担保金额的货款。
