ROMAN HOLIDAY
罗马假日
男主角:乔女主角安妮

One
到访罗马。
观礼——大使馆——威尼斯广场。
欧洲之行的最后一站是罗马,安妮公主很想尽情地饱览一下她的优美风光,可侍从们以公主身份高贵、不宜在黎民百姓面前抛头露面为由拒绝了,并给她注射了镇静剂,公主假装睡着了,待侍从们出去后,她偷偷越窗溜了出来。
然而没逛多久,医生给她注射的镇静剂就发生了效力,她在广场附近喷水池边的一条长椅上迷迷糊糊地睡着了。
(大使馆会客厅)
MASTER OF CEREMONIES——Sir Hugo Macy de Farmington.
ANN(he bows to her)——Good evening, Sir Hugo.
SIR HUGO(shaking her hand)——Good evening, Your Royal Highness. MASTER OF CEREMONIES侍官:——Prince Istvan Barossy Nagyavaros ANN——Good evening, Countess安妮:晚上好。
Prince Istvan Barossy Nagyavaros(kissing her hand)——Good evening. 晚上好。
(Suddenly, Princess Ann loses her balance as her foot slips over her shoe, knocking it over).
(she tries to manipulate her shoe back into position which has been knocked over and she greets the couple, disguising her discomfort) The Master of Ceremonies ——The Maharaja
(The Master of Ceremonies announces the next guest as Ann pushes her shoe again in an effort to right it.)
ANN——how do you do? 您好。
(As the last guest moves back Ann looks around anxiously, trying again to right her shoe, resulting in her pushing it further away).
The Ambassador(将军) then motions her to sit down。
安旁边的男士邀请安跳舞,安顺势把鞋子穿上。
(公主卧室)
ANN(brushing her hair)——I hate this nightgown. I hate all my nightgowns. And I hate all my underwear too. 安妮:我讨厌这睡袍,我讨厌所有的睡袍。
我也不愿意穿着这些东西睡觉。
COUNTESS——My dear, you have lovely things.女官:亲爱的,您这些哪样不是好东西?
ANN——But I'm not two hundred years old! Why can't I sleep in pyjamas? 安妮:但我还没成老太婆呢!为什么不能让我穿睡衣裤?(Dropping down on the bed躺在床上)
COUNTESS——Pyjamas! (惊讶状)
ANN——just the top half. Did you know there are people who sleep with absolutely on?

COUNTESS——I rejoice to say that I did not. 女官:禀告公主,我没听说过。
ANN安妮:(lying against the headboard, smiling as she hears distant music coming in through the window

COUNTESS——Oh, and your slippers. 女官:唉呀!穿上您的鞋, (She goes to fetch them from beside the bed as Ann looks out with pleasure at the dancing going on far below in the distance)Please put on your slippers and come away at the window. 您穿上鞋,别在窗口站着了!您的牛奶和饼干。
(安回到床上)
ANN(taking the tray; as the Countess helps her pull the covers over her 女官帮她整理好床铺)——Everything we do is so wholesome. 一切都这么刻板。
COUNTESS——They'll help you to sleep. 女官:这对您的睡眠有好处。
ANN——I'm too tired to sleep--can't sleep a wink.安妮:我太累了睡不着,也不想睡。
COUNTESS——Now my dear, if you don't mind: tomorrow's schedule--or schedule .whichever you prefer--both are correct. 女官:如果您允许我的话我们谈谈,明天的节目或是日程吧。
(Running through the items with a pen)
——Eight thirty, breakfast here with the Embassy staff; nine o'clock, we leave for the Polinory Automotive Works where you'll be presented with a small car.明早八点半您和使馆人员共进早餐,九点出发参观汽车制造厂,他们将赠送您一辆小型汽车。
ANN(很没兴趣的样子,拿起手帕玩)——Thank you. COUNTESS——Which you will not accept. 这汽车您不能接受。

COUNTESS——Ten thirty-five, inspection of food and agricultural organisation will present you with an olive tree.女官:十点三十五分视察食品和农业机构,他们将赠送橄榄树一棵。
ANN——No, thank you. 不接受。
COUNTESS——Which you will accept. 这棵树您要接受。

(she rolls her eyes.) COUNTESS——One o'clock sharp, lunch with the Foreign Ministry. You will

ANN ——(No, thank you.不,谢谢……)
——Four forty-five (ANN:How do you do?幸会了) back here to change (ANN:(becoming distressed) Charmed.) to your uniform (ANN :So happy.) to meet the international--.
ANN(screaming at the Countess)——STOP别说了…… (Looking away, her hair covering her face)——Please stop! stop...! 别说了!别说了!COUNTESS(retrieving the tray)——It's alright, dear, it didn't spill 没关系,还没打翻牛奶呢。
ANN——I don't care if it's spilled or not. I don't care if I drown in it! 我才不管呢!这些事和我有什么关系?
COUNTESS——My dear, you're ill. I'll send for Doctor Bonnachoven. 亲爱的,我看您是病了。
我叫波那大夫来看看你。
ANN——I don't want Doctor Bonnachoven; please let me die in peace! 我不要,让我安静的死掉算了!
COUNTESS——You're not dying. 您现在还不会死。
ANN——Leave me. Leave me! 你走!你走!别来管我
COUNTESS——It's nerves; control yourself Ann. 您这是神经紧张了。
你要自控。
ANN——I don't want to! 不是不是。
COUNTESS——Your Highness 公主殿下!
(Ann continues blubbing.)——I'll get Doctor Bonnachoven 我去找波纳医生(she heads for the door.)
ANN——It's no use; I'll be dead before he gets here没用,不等他来,我就死了。
(she gives a defiant blub.)
DOCTOR——She is asleep. :她睡着了?
COUNTESS——She was in hysterics three minutes ago, Doctor. 她刚才还在歇斯底理,大夫。
DOCTOR——Are you asleep, ma'am? 大夫:您睡着了吗?公主。
ANN(without moving)——No!
DOCTOR——Oh. I'll only disturb Your Royal Highness a moment, ah?请容我打扰公主殿下一小会儿。
ANN——I'm very ashamed, Doctor Bonnachoven; I suddenly I was crying. 真不好意思,大夫,不知怎么我哭起来了。
DOCTOR(reassuring)——To cry--a perfectly normal thing to do. 哭,是人的一种本能嘛。
GENERAL将军——It most important she be calm and relaxed for the press conference, Doctor. 她要在记者会上保持冷静轻松
ANN——Don't worry,Doctor .I'll be calm and relaxed and I-I'll bow and I'll smile and- I'll improve trade relations and I, and I will.. 您不用着急,我会稳稳当当的。
我会招手微笑,我会改善贸易关系的,我会做到的……(she throws herself onto the pillow, in hysterics again.) COUNTESS——There she goes again. Give her something, Doctor, please.瞧!她又来了。

ANN——What's that?那是什么?
DOCTOR——Sleep and calm. This will relax you and make Your Highness feel a little happy. It's a new drug, quite harmless.这是一种新药。

这时,美国新闻社的穷记者乔•布莱德里恰好经过这里,以为这是一个在狂欢中被灌醉的少女,就租了一辆出租车想
把她送回家,可是公主睡得特别沉,怎么也叫不醒,无奈,乔只好把她带回了自己的住所。

(sounding drunk because of the drug's effect)Sooooo happy.

approaches and whistles. A taxi pulls up. Joe gets up, pats her on the

JOE ——Ok,this way 好了,进来吧。
ANN ——Is this the elevator? 这儿是电梯吗?

ANN ——I'm terribly sorry to mention it, but the dizziness is getting worse. (Looking around)Can I sleep here? 非常抱歉,我头昏得厉害,能在这儿睡觉吗?

ANN ——Can I have a silk nightgown with rosebuds on it?

ANN ——This is very unusual. (Unbuttoning her cuffs, then the bottom button of her blouse)I've never been alone with a man before, even with my dress on. Pulling up her blouse out of her skirt)With my dress off it's most unusual. (With a half-laugh)Hm, I don't seem to mind. Do you?
这实在是很奇怪,我从没有单独和一个男人在一起,就算是穿着衣服也没有,而不穿衣服就是更加稀奇的事了。
但是,我似乎也不太介意。

JOE——I think I'll go out for a cup of coffee. You'd better get to sleep. Oh, no, no; on this one我要出去喝杯咖啡。

JOE——I'll be-- it's Shelley. I'll be back in about ten minutes. 不,是雪莱。
呆会儿大约十分钟我就回来。
ANN ——Keats.You have my permission to withdraw.
是济慈的!现在你可以退下去了。
JOE ——Thank you very much.非常感谢。
(大使馆)
AMBASSADOR——Well?怎么样?
SERVANT——No trace, Your Excellency.没有,阁下。
AMBASSADOR——Have you searched the grounds? 楼下你有没有去找?
SERVANT——Every inch, Sir, from the attics to the cellar每个地方都找过了,包括地下室。
AMBASSADOR ——I must put you on your honor not to speak of this to anyone.

第二天,报纸上的特别公告使乔意识到他带回的少女就是安妮公主,于是他欣喜若狂,打算写一篇关于公主内幕的独家报道,稳赚一笔。
公主醒后发现了陌生的乔,乔连忙解释,公主才安心了。
她向乔借了一些钱,然后告别了他,又到罗马大街上闲逛了。
(主编办公室)
JOE——You've been looking for me? 乔:您找我吗?HENNESSY——Just coming to work? 主编:你刚来上班吗?
JOE——Who, me? 乔:您说谁?我?
HENNESSY——We start our days at eight-thirty in this office; we pick up our assignments--.我们这儿办公的时间是八点半开始,安排好的任务是……
JOE——I picked up mine last night. 昨晚我就有了。
HENNESSY ——What assignment was that? 什么任务?
JOE——The Princess, eleven forty-five. 采访公主啊?十一点四十五分。
HENNESSY ——You've already been to the interview?这么说你采访完了?JOE ——Well, sure; I just got back.是的,我刚回来
HENNESSY——In view of the fact that Her Highness was taken violently ill at three o'clock this morning, put to bed with a high fever, and has
had all her appointments for today cancelled in toto! 根据使馆发出的特别公报,公主殿下今晨3时突患重病,发高烧,需要卧床休息,今天她所有的会见全部取消!
JOE——In toto? 全部?全部活动?
HENNESSY ——Yes, Mr. Bradley: in toto.
(picking up a paper)all over the front page of every newspaper in Rome! 是的,白莱德记者先生,全部……取消!在罗马的每张报纸上都有了这消息JOE——Is this the Princess? 乔:你说这就是公主?
HENNESSY ——Yes, Mr. Bradley, It isn't Annie Oakley, Dorothy Lamour, or Madame Chiang Kai-Shek. Take a good look at her

ANN——Is there anything you want? I dreamt and I dreamt... (Holding her wrist as a doctor might.)安妮:有什么事?我做了一个梦,我梦见……JOE——Yes? Well, er, what did you dream?乔:说呀,你梦到些什么?
ANN ——I dreamt I was asleep on the street and... young man came and he was tall and strong and--(screwing her face up)he was so mean to me.
安妮:梦见我睡在大街上,走过来一个年轻人,他的个儿高高的,对我可粗野了。

ANN ——It’s lovely!太讨人喜欢了!
JOE——(cheerfully)Good morning. 早上好!
ANN——(she starts; in a low, worried tone)Where's Doctor Bonnachoven?波那大夫,他人呢?
JOE——Er, I'm afraid I don't know anybody by that name.我不知道他是谁?
ANN ——Wasn't I talking to him just now?刚才和我说话的人是你吧?
JOE—— Afraid not. 乔:我想恐怕是的。
ANN——Have- have I had an accident? 安妮:我是不是出事故了?JOE——No. 没有。
ANN(reassured)——Quite safe for me to sit up, huh? 我想起来,没危险吧?JOE——Yeah:一点也没有。
ANN——Thank you Are these yours? 睡衣是你的?
JOE——Er, did- did you lose something? 乔:你是丢了什么东西吗?ANN——No. No. (Politely, suppressing her anxiety)W-would you be so kind as tell me w-where I am?没有。

ANN——(presenting her hand)How do you do? 幸会。
JOE——(shaking her hand)How do you do? 幸会。
ANN——And you are? 那你是……?
JOE——Bradley, Joe Bradley. 乔·白莱德。
ANN—— Delighted. 很高兴。
JOE——You don't know how delighted I am to meet you. 您不知道我认识你有多高兴。
ANN——(gesturing to the chair to her left)You may sit down. 你可以坐下说话了。
JOE——Well, thank you very much What's your name? 谢谢。
你叫什么名字?ANN——Er...you may call me Anya. 你可以叫我……安雅。
JOE——Thank you, Anya. Would you like a cup of coffee? 谢谢,安妮。

ANN——What time is it?现在什么时候了?
JOE——Oh, about one thirty.一点半左右了。
ANN—One thirty! I must get dressed and go! 一点半?我得穿好衣服马上走了。
JOE——Why? what's your hurry?--there's lots of time.不要着急,忙什么?有的是时间呢!
ANN——Oh no, there isn't and I've- I've been quite enough trouble to you as it is. 不行,没有时间了,我已经够麻烦你的了。
JOE——Trouble? You're not what I'd call trouble. 麻烦?你这人对我来说不算麻烦。
ANN——I'm not?我不麻烦?
JOE——I'll run a bath for you. 我去给你准备洗澡水。

游玩。
威尼斯广场——帝国大街——古罗马竞技场等游览圣地。
乔跟踪公主,同时连忙给他的摄影师朋友欧文打电话,并在花园广场上佯装和她偶遇,便自告奋勇地要为公主做导游,骑着摩托车带着她游览罗马城,同时,欧文也驾驶着小汽车跟在他们后面,拍下了许多珍贵的镜头,而这一切,公主浑然不觉。
安洗澡出来后

JOE—— Let me take you out to play. Come with me. 我带你出去玩吧,来吧,跟我来。
(“真理之嘴”前)
JOE——The Mouth of Truth. The legend is that if you're given to lying, you put you're hand in there .it'll be bitten off. 这是“真理之嘴”,传说撒谎以后把手伸进去,就会被咬掉。
ANN——Ooh, what a horrid idea.太可怕了!
JOE——Let's see you do it.你来试试?
ANN——Let's see you do it. 你来试吧
JOE———Sure. 没问题。
把手小心翼翼放进去后,JOE突然扶着手大叫,ANN抱着JOE尖叫。
然后JOE 把手拿出来
JOE——hello!
ANN——You beast! it was perfectly alright! You've never hurt your hand! 你真可恶,你的手没事!
JOE——I'm sorry, it was just a joke! Alright? 对不起,说笑而已。
然后两个人紧紧抱在一起
FIVE
舞会。
水上月亮舞厅。
公主的失踪引起了人们的惊慌,国王秘密派出了许多便衣四处寻找公主的下落。
乔带领公主来到水上舞厅参加舞会时被便衣警察发现了,他们请公主和他们回去,而公主坚决不肯,便衣们要强行绑架她回去,乔和欧文同他们撕打起来,而任性调皮的公主也大打出手,十分开心。
趁着混乱,乔带着公主逃之夭夭……
舞会(dance)
乔邀请安跳舞
ANN
-- You spent the whole day doing things I've always wanted to. Why?(安妮:你整天陪我做我想做的事情,为什么呢?)
JOE(guiltily)
--I don't know. Seemed the thing to do.(乔:这是我该做的。
)
ANN
--I never heard of anybody so kind(安妮:我从没见过有人这么好心。
) JOE
(he looks down, hiding his guilt 他往下看,隐藏自己的罪行)
