• America was no different then any other agrarian society from 1776-1860. A society heavily reliant upon cheap manual labor and perishable goods. However after 1860, America learned from England and began its own Industrial Revolution. We took advantage of oil drilling, steam engines, and large scale industrial production.

• America became a nation on July 4 1776. It was originally made up of British, Irish, and Dutch settlers who built colonies in the land. 20 million West African slaves were brought over to grow cotton and tobacco. The rest of the population was indigenous peoples who were driven off their land, infected by new European diseases, or starved to death.

• Boston Tea Party (1773) It was formed to resist British taxes on Chinese Tea shipped into the country. The British wanted monetary gain fom the hardwork of Americans. The party was formed by the people. These people tossed thousands of tons of British Tea into the Boston harbor. The British king George III was enraged.

• Revolutionary War (1775-1783) George Washington. This was triggered because of being taxed without being represented. (being taxed by a foreign nation) It is the foundation of America as a nation. George Washington recieved considerable support from the French and Spanish and went to war against Britain. He would press on to establish America as a nation and become the first President. the war killed 80000 people on both sides.

America would produce three documents that became the foundation of the country as it is today. The declaration of Independence - This was a declaration of war against Britain that America was a free nation. It was written by Thomas Jefferson who became the 3rd president. Bill of Rights - When America began to form the consititution. They wrote ten amendments which gave American people rights to be treated fairly. There are 27 amendments today.

• 1900-1965 was a drastic period for America because we began experimenting with new structures of government and equality laws that liberated huge sections of the population. Africans quickly were freed from enslavement, and women were allowed to work. However China did beat America to women's rights.
