4.10 Puma Clean / Soil Release Test

Puma Test Method

Aim and application:

Determine the soil-release effect of fabrics which are finished with "PUMA CLEAN"

Apparatus required:

‧0.5g of "Sport Soil" from EMPA

‧Water

‧Glass or plastic shell

‧Crockmeter according ISO 105-X12 (rubbing fastness t

‧Grey scale ISO 105-A03 to determine bleeding and staining onto multi-fibre strip ‧Drying cabinet

Sport soil can be ordered by EMPA

Procedure:

‧Cut a sample in size of 20cm x 20cm out of the test fabric

‧Weight 0.5g of "Sport Soil" into a beaker

‧Drop 1 ml water on top of the "Sport Soil" by using a pipette and mix it until the soil disperse

‧Apply the liquid soil onto the fabric surface

‧Rub the soil with the crockmeter into the fabric as follows:

- Attach the sample to be tested to the bottom plate of the crockmeter

- Use the rubbing finger without the standard rubbing cotton fabric

- Lower the rubbing finger onto the fabric and turn the handle 20 revolutions in 20 seconds

‧Dry the soiled test fabric for 30 min at 60C in the oven

‧After drying, wash the sample together with 2 kg polyester ballast fabric in a

washing machine at 40C. Use 4 g/L (40g) mild washing detergent (e.g. FEWA)

‧Dry the sample after washing at 60C in the oven

Evaluation:

The test sample must be evaluated under the viewing cabinet using the Grey scale ISO 105-A03 for color staining.
