When Pip was 20 years old,he was given a chance to study in london like a gentleman by a secret benefactor(赞助人). Pip thought the golden opportunity was offered by Miss Havisham so that he can be elegant enough to marry Estella.

It is adapted from Dickens’ famous works <Great Expectations>.《远大前程》 The moive was shot in 1946,so the stage property(道具) looks old. The music is also far different from nowadays. The dialogues in this version are much like those in the drama.

Nowadays we often enjoy those colorful moives,but I think that black-and-white film is more classical. Try to enjoy the music ,the dramatic dialogues and symbolic scenes. About the theme,we should try our best to be a true gentleman and cherish what we really want.
At the very end, Pip saved Magwitch and eventually made a new start. Pip went back to the Miss Havisham’s house to find Estella and poured his heart to her which moved the beatiful lady.
One day when Pip went to his parents’ graveyard he was caught by a prisoner and was threatened to steal food for him.
Pip was so scared that he did as the prisoner asked. But the prisoner was caught again.
Someday, Miss Havisham, a rich old lady, sent for Pip to play with beautiful Estella. The boy fell in love with the girl at the first sight but was teased by Estella. So the boy wanted very much to become a gentleman to gain the girl’s heart.

Pip,a boy without parents,lives with his uncle Joe. Joe was a poor black smith(铁匠) with a kind heart.
At the end of the film, it turned out Pip’s secret benefactor was that prisoner,Magwitch,who made his fortune in Australia. Pip’s great expectations came to collapse. His vanity and luxurious life in London ruined them.
When Pip studied in London he tried his best to bury his past and forgot his uncle Joe. The poor Joe travelled long to see his dearest boy, but Pip become embarrassed and indifferent.
