当买方没能开信用证或信用证没能及时到达卖方,卖方通常发电 传或传真给买方,催促开证或弄清信用证的下落。卖方不应该一 开始就强烈谴责买方不履行合同,而应该有礼貌地说明所订购的 货物已备妥,但有关的信用证尚未收到。催开信用证的函电必须 写得得体,目的是要说服买方更密切地合作,并切实履行义务。
卖方收到有关的信用证后,首先应做一次详细的审核,看信用证 中规定的条款是否与销售合同(销货确认书)所订条款完全一致 。如在信用证中发现差异或先前未见到的特殊条款,而卖方又不 能同意,则应通知买方予以修改。当然,如果买方发现信用证中 有需要修改的地方,也可以要求修改。通常的手续是,买方首先 征得卖方同意,然后通知开证行修改信用证。

6.3 Letters about Extending the
L/C
Besides the date of shipment, which is usually stipulated in the L/C, every L/C has its expiry date. In order to leave sufficient time to the seller to make out the shipping documents and the bank to make their negotiation, the date of shipment and the expiry date of the L/C should be made at least two weeks apart.
信用证的装运日期与到期日应至少相隔两周,以留出足够的时间 供卖方缮制装运单证和向银行办理议付。如果卖方未能及时将货 物备妥待运,或买方由于各种原因要求延迟装运,这时卖方不得 不要求展延信用证的装运日期和到期日期。
