W: Hi Leo, why do you say En glish would become the world Ian guage?

M: Well. For one thin g, it's so com monly used, the only Ian guage that is

used by more people is Chin ese.

W: Why is En glish spoke n by so many people?

M: It's spoken in manycountries of the world because of the British

empire. And now of course is the in flue nce of America as well.

W: Many students find English a difficult Ianguage to learn.

M: Oh, all la nguages are difficult to lear n. But En glish does have two greatest adva ntages.

W: What are they?

M: Well, first of all, it has a very in ter nati onal vocabulary. It has many German, Dutch, French, Spanish and Italian words in it. So speakers of those Ianguages will find many familiar words in English. In fact, English has words for many other Ian guages as well.

W: Why is that?

M: Well, partly because English speakers have travelled a lot, they bring back words with them. So English really does have an international vocabulary.

W: And what is the other adva ntage of En glish?

M: It that En glish grammar is really quite easy. For example, it does n't

have doze ns of differe nt endings for its nouns, adjectives and verbs, not like Latin, Russian and German for example.

W: Why is that?

M: Well, it's quite interesting actually, it's because of the French. When

the French ruled En gla nd, French was the official Ian guage, and only the com mon people spoke English. They tried to make their Ianguage as simple as possible.

So they made the grammar easier.
