While most teenagers were studying to get into a top university, one 19-year-old boy was starring in his first movie, Blue Gate Crossing. It was a film about love on campus and it was well received in Taiwan. Many say it was this film that put Bolin Chen in position for his later glittering career in show business.

The most important thing for Chen now is to take more initiative(主动性) as an actor. “To me, an actor is like a chess piece, waiting for producers and directors to put him somewhere they want him to be,”Chen, told NetEase. “But I want to be the game player.” He even to ok his ambition a step further—setting up his own production company.

Chen is a veteran(老手) in the entertainment world, but unlike many stars,he hasn't led a luxurious life. He doesn't even have a car but walks, rides a bike or takes a taxi whenever he goes out. He doesn't have a house, either. “Everyone will eventually find some place to live anyway, why bother to buy property (地产)?” he asked Taiwan magazine Business Today.

As globalization continues to make the world a smaller place, and goods become more accessible across borders, concerns about food safety in the Asia-Pacific region have steadily risen over the years. An APEC forum is being held in Beijing, to find ways to better address the problem.
156 participants from 19 APEC economies and 4 non-APEC members attended the APEC Food Safety Cooperation Forum, which has been actively looking for ways to strengthen food safety standard in the region, without affecting trade.
“As consumers are faced with more varieties of food, the potential food safety risk also becomes bigger. This forum has helped APEC economies to cooperate in supervision(监督), exchange information, and improve the overall food safety standard in the Asia-Pacific region,”said director of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision Wu Qinghai.
For the first time the forum has brought together high-level regulators, academics, and industry stakeholders to talk about their respective roles in safety supervision. They say governments alone cannot shoulder this heavy duty.
In China, the continuous food safety problems have greatly hurt consumers' confidence in domestic products; therefore more turned to imports. However, problems related to quality of those imported goods also began to show. In July this year, more than 400 batches(批) of food imported from 35 countries and regions were found substandard by the country's top quality supervisor.
Governments and industries have been brought closer by this forum. As food moves more freely beyond borders, this forum is hoped to promote safety control cooperation, so APEC members can better benefit from the economic integration(经济一体化).
5.What kind of function can the forum play?
A. It has greatly influenced the economy in the area.
B. It has long been able to put every side's efforts together.
C. It helps to bring government regulators and industries together.
D. It has found ways to deal with safety problems.
6.The last but one paragraph tells us that ________.
A. the Chinese customers are more satisfied with their food safety
B. food imported from other countries is indeed high in quality
C. many Chinese customers would rather buy some foreign food
D. there are only 35 countries and regions exporting food to China
7.The underlined word “address” in the first paragraph can be replaced by “________”.
A. send a letter about
B. deal with
C. deliver a speech on
D. call off
8.According to the article, which of the following statements is WRONG?
A. People can buy foreign food more easily than ever.
B. The more varieties of food, the bigger the potential food safety risk.
C. Food safety problems have appeared many times before this forum.
D. Governments have started their cooperation with academies and industries before this forum.

As the November cold begins to take control in the UK, Bonfire Night (or Guy Fawkes Night) is a chance to wrap up in winter clothes and warm up by the fire.
Celebrated on November 5, Guy Fawkes Night has been part of British history since 1605, when Fawkes was found trying to blow up parliament(议会) with barrels of gunpowder. Now, it is traditional for Britons to make a fake(假的)“Guy” every year from old clothes and burn it on the fire.
If you visit a small town in the southwest of the country, you might see men from the village run through the crowded streets with huge wooden barrels on their backs, then fill them with tar(焦油) and set them on fire. And in Lewes, a town in the southern English county of Sussex, different groups of bonfire societies parade (游行) the streets, each wearing their own unique outfits and carrying a giant mascot(吉祥物), which they burn at their own bonfire party at the end of the evening.
Bonfire Night is also a time for “chili con carne”,a dish made from slow-cooked beef mince, tomatoes, kidney beans, onions, and spices. It is often served on top of a hot jacket potato with butter and cheese. It's not the most elegant dish in the world but it's sure to warm people up while they brave the cold for the festivities.
But for many Britons, the night is not complete without “bonfire treacle toffee(太妃糖)”,which is also known as “plot toffee”,named after Guy Fawkes' plot to blow up parliament. The toffee is rock hard and is often broken with a hammer and handed out to guests.
Whether it's the sound of fireworks making Britain sound like a war zone, the hearty winter food, or the excuse to light a huge fire, Bonfire Night has something for everyone. Just watch out for those rockets!
4. What is Guy Fawkes Night?
A. A person to explode the parliament.
B. A guy to be controlled in the UK.
C. A symbol for Britons to enter winter.
D. A dish famous to British people.
5. Why do people have “chili con carne”?
A. It's the most elegant.
B. It's full of energy.
C. It's on jacket potatoes.
D. It's slowly cooked.
6. The underlined word “rockets” refers to “__________”.
A. celebrations
B. fireworks
C. performances
D. bonfires
7. What is the text mainly about?
A. The origin of Guy Fawkes Night.

Dear Betty,
My roommate's family wants me to celebrate Thanksgiving Day with them in their home. I accepted the invitation, and I'm excited about going, but I'm a little nervous about it, too. The social customs in my country are different from those here, so I'm a little worried about making mistakes.
Should I bring a gift, such as candy or flowers? Should I arrive on time or a little late? At the dinner table, how can I know which fork or knife to use? How can I let the family know that I'm thankful for their kindness?
Yours,
Knowing Nothing
Dear Knowing Nothing,
It's a good idea to bring a gift when you go to a dinner party. Flowers are always welcome, or you can bring a bottle of wine if you know the family drink it.
You should arrive on time or five to ten minutes late. Don't get there early. If you are going to be more than fifteen minutes late, you should call and tell them.
Try to relax at the dinner table. If you don't know how to use the right fork, knife or spoon, just watch the other guests, and follow them. If you still have no idea of what to do,don't be shy about asking the person next to you;it's better to ask them than to be silently uncomfortable and nervous.
If you like the food, say so. Of course, you'll thank the host and hostess for the meal and for their kindness. It's also a good idea to send a card to thank them the day after.
Yours,
Betty

Almost everyone has experienced anxiety at some time in their lives, and to do so is not only probably quite sensible, too. In some sense, the feeling of anxiety is like a signal to us that we need to take action. If we are walking alone down a dark street and start to feel anxious,we might think, “This is getting frightening, I think I'll nip into the pub and call a cab.” so we will do something to get ourselves somewhere safe. If we have an exam coming up, we are likely to start feeling anxious. We might think, “I can't pretend it's not happening. I've got to revise or I'll totally mess up. ” Once again, anxiety can guide us to behave in a way that is in our best interests.
However, anxiety can also imprison us. It stops us from doing what we would like to do and living our life fully. Feeling anxious is undoubtedly a fact of life, so our goal is not to live an anxiety-free life but to live our life with acceptable levels of anxiety in a full way.
Anxiety can be abnormal when it starts to take over our thinking processes and our lives, and makes it difficult for us to function. It is likely that people who experience extreme and upsetting levels of continual anxiety are suffering from a disorder called Generalised Anxiety Disorder(GAD).
The most important feature of GAD is that people experience quite severe anxiety and worry about a wide range of things over long periods of time. Other symptoms include finding it difficult to control the worry, getting easily tired, difficulty concentrating and sleep disturbance.
People with GAD tend to worry about the same kinds of things as people without GAD-only they fall into worrying more easily and tend to spend more time worrying. Research suggests that our worry tends to cluster around particular themes including our health, finances, relationships, family, work and finally, worry about worrying.
Some worries are realistic (“real event” worries). For example, if I worry about the size of my credit card bill, then this problem exists and my worry arises from a real problem. Some worries are about things that may never happen(“hypothetical event” worries). Sometimes, real event worries spiral(螺旋形上升) into hypothetical event worries. For example, “My neighbors are noisy” could spiral into “I'll never be able to sell the house. I'll be stuck here for ever. ”
Even though you may always have tended to worry, you can still learn to understand it and get on the top of it. Extreme worry is not a part of your personality, and it's not something that you should accept as unavoidable.

A. try to do something to get himself somewhere safe
B. focus his mind fully on what he is determined to do
C. be anxious about one special thing for a long time
D. be continuously worrying about some particular things
2. It can be inferred from the passage that __________.
A. GAD can hardly be cured once one suffers from it
B. anxiety actually has both positive and negative sides
C. most people have experienced different levels of GAD
D. hypothetical event worries are mostly from real event worries
3. The difference between people with GAD and normal people lies in __________.
A. whether they feel worried
B. what they worry about
C. how they experience anxiety
D. why they get into anxiety
4. Which would be the proper title for the passage?
A. Anxiety:Learn to Understand It
B. GAD:Learn to Keep Away from It
C. How to Get Rid of Your Anxiety
D. How to Distinguish Anxiety from GAD。
