With the last lunar month, my mother cleaned the house to say goodbye to the old and welcome the new while my father did Spring Festival shopping including all kinds of foods, fruit and clothes, etc.At this monment, lanterns and lights came to appear in the streets. On New Year's Eve, I helped father put up the Spring Festival couplets on the door. After putting on new clothes, my brother and I set off fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate the New Year. In the evening, the whole family enjoyed a sit-down dinner with Chinese traditional food, Jiaozi, over the Chinese New Year Gala. After that, we stayed up the whole night to pray for good luck. On the first day of the first lunar month, children went out to visit close relatives and we were quite happy to be given gift money. Usually,we visited family members of father on the the second day of the first lunar month while we visited family members of mother on the third day of the first lunar month. We celebrated the New Year by get togther with relatives. The end of the Chinese New Year is the Lantern Festival. After it, we went back to school and began a new term.
As we opened the new year calendar, Christmas cards arrived in the post, Christmas lights appeared in the streets, and we attended the town carol service.
