Love and Marriage

After watching the movie The Story of us,we are thinking about a question——what is marriage?

What is marriage? This question has been asked by a lot of people,but no one has a correct answer.Some people think marriage is the grave of love,,and others think marriage is the result of love.When we talking about marriage,we have to talk about love,because marriage comes from love.If you don’t love someone,how can you be with him/her?So in some ways,I prefer the answer that marriage is the result of love. What is marriage? I think we can hear a conversation between Plato with Socrates; Plato asked Socrates, what is marriage?Socrates said, "You need to go to the woods and don't look back, then, on the way, you can take a tree which you think is the best, but you can take only one." Plato sticked to the teacher's words. After half a day, he dragged a tree which is not so good and also not so bad.Socrates asked, "Do you think this tree is one of the best tree?" Plato answered, "Because you can take only one tree, when I saw a seemingly good, I found time and physical strength is close enough, and I was afraid of empty-handed, so I took it back and don’t care about whether it is the best or not." Socrates said: "This is marriage."

However, happy marriage not only exists in the love, at the same time, there are also many argument and complain.In the movie,Ben and Katie Jordan go through a difficult time in fifteen years of their marriage.They argued with each other and they separated for a period of time,even though they want to recall the old feeling between them,it can’t stop them thinking their shortcomings.The two people in love seldom quarrel, because they are not often with each other and each other will hide some of his own shortcomings. Also because of this, what they see is the advantage of each other, even if they have faults, in the eyes of love of two people, is also turn a blind eye. However, because they need to live together in marriage, each other can see all the disadvantages and advantages.Katie Jordan said:”We still love each other but in a different way.”So arguments don’t mean that there is no love,it just because the reality of life lost to the imagination.Love is a thing just between two people,but marriage not.If you choose marriage,you have to deal with the relationship between wife with husband,parents with children,mother-in-law with father-in-law.You must care about everything,and there are too many trivial details and they are too difficult to handle. According to this,I think marriage doesn’t mean that there are no arguments,it means after the quarrel the couple can still live together.At the end of the movie,Katie Jordan said:”There's a history here, and histories don't happen overnight. In Mesopotamia or Ancient Troy there are cities built on top of other cities, but I don't want to build another city, I like this city. I know what kind of mood your in when you wake up by which eyebrow is higher, and you know I'm a little quiet in the morning and compensate accordingly, that's a dance you perfect over time. And it's hard, it's much harder than I thought it would be, but there's more good than bad and you don't just give up!”Don’ give up,no matter how difficult it is.It’s your marriage and it’s your family.She knows your habits, knows your hobbies.She knows everything about you. Marriage need trust and understanding.Fifteen years,you can understand a person completely and he needs your understanding.
