Alternative energy sources(另類能源) are defined as any energy source and certain non-energy applications that can replace or reduce(取代或減少) the use of conventional(傳統的) crude oil, natural gas, and coal(原油 ,天然氣和媒). This is a broad definition but it is helpful in avoiding concentrating on only pristine alternative energy sources, e.g., solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, biomass, etc.
