The Asian Games, also called the Asiad, is a multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The games are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) under the supervision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Medals are awarded in each event, with gold for first place, silver for second and bronze for third, a tradition which started in 1951.
Competitors are entered by a National Olympic Committee (NOC) to represent their country of citizenship. National anthems and flags accompany the medal ceremonies, and tables showing the number of medals won by each country are widely used. In general only recognised nations are represented, but a few non-sovereign countries are allowed to take part. The special case of Taiwan was handled by having it compete as Chinese Taipei, due to the political status of Taiwan.

The first Asian games were held at New Delhi in 1952,which again hosted it in 1982

The 15th Asian Games were held in Doha, Qatar from December 1 to December 15, 2006. The 16th Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12, 2010 to November 27, 2010.

The sixteenth Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou, China on November 12 to 27, 2010, Guangzhou will be the second city in China to host the Asian Games. 41 events are scheduled to be contested, making the most events to be ever competed in history of the Asian Games. After Asian Games, Guangzhou will be also held the 10th Asian Games for the Disabled. This is another focus after Beijing Olympic Games.
Asian Game is the great sport meeting and culture pageant of Asian region with largest scale and the highest level; moreover, it will show the comprehensive national strength of China completely. It is very important to polity, economy and social with the success of the Asian Games.

At present, the preparation work of Asia Games is carrying through ruly, and hotel industry has become focus who as the important program.

During the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, there will be 14,700 athletes and team officials, 6300 technology officials and umpires, 10,000 media

staffs, 60,000volunteer

16th Asian Games in 2010 12-27 November in Guangzhou, China, Guangzhou is the second Chinese city to obtain the right to host the Asian Games. Beijing in 1990 held the 11th Asian Games. Guangzhou Asian Games will be 41 events in the history of the Asian Games is the largest event of the session. Guangzhou Asian Games will be held after the 10th Asian Games with disabilities.
In March 2004 following a total of four cities hosting the Asian Games: Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul (Seoul), Amman; but the other three bidding cities have been decided to withdraw from the competition. July 1, 2004, the Olympic Council of Asia announced that Guangzhou was the right to host the 16th Asian Games.
The emblem of the Asian Games in November 17, 2006 Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou announced a grand to the symbol of Guangzhou - "Wuyang statue" as the main contours of this pattern designed to become the emblem of the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.

第16届亚运会将于2010年11月12日至27日在中国广州，广州是中国个亚运会主办权的城市。北京曾于1990年举办第11届亚运会。广州亚运会将设41项比赛项目，是亚运会历史上比赛项目最多的一届。广州还将在亚运会后举办第十届残疾人亚运会。

2004年3月共有四座城市申办亚运会：广州、吉隆坡、汉城（首尔）、安曼；但之后三个申办城市相继决定退出竞逐。2004年7月1日，亚奥理事会宣布广州第十六届亚运会主办权。

亚运会会徽于2006年11月17日在广州孙中山纪念堂隆重揭晓，以广州的象征——“五羊雕像”为主体轮廓设计的图案2010年广州亚运会会徽。

What I think of The Guangzhou Asian Game
In 2001, All the Chinese people became excited when Guangzhou got the chance to held the 16th Asian Game. Now, the 16th Asian Games is around the corner. As the host, what everybody can contribute to the Games?
Asian Olympic Games has chosen Guangzhou, this is Guangzhou people's pride, is also all Chinese pride! When the Asian Games Committee decided to give Guangzhou the authority, all the Guangzhou people would bear an important responsibility from that moment on. To begin with, we ought to organize some promotion activities, such as advertisings and some sport competitions related to the Games, people will learn a lot about the Asian Games ' history and knowledge. We also should build up some modern facilities, and give good impressions to people all over the world.
This is a good chance to show our city's strength and promote Guangzhou's cultures. During Asian Games, there will be a lot of foreigners arrive in Guangzhou.What can we do for them？As a student, we need to do well in studying the English first, then we are able to talk with the foreignersin or introduce the well-known places to them in English. If we like, we also can be a

little reporter or a volunteer, and we may recommend them about Guangzhou's delicious food, famous buildings and the history so that let foreingers to know more about our history and cultures.
Now, I want to talk something about Guangzhou Asian Games 'mascots, too. The mascots of the 2010 Asian Games are five goats, they are Le Yangyang,A Xiang,A He,A Ru and A Yi. Le Yangyang is a orange goat,it's very handsome,cheerful and lively, it also is the leader of these five goats.A xiang is in blue, it represents the Pearl River, and it also shows one kind of Guangzhou people friendly charactor. A He 's coulour is black, which shows its patient . And there is a smart and beautiful goat,it wears red, its name is A Ru,it represents every person's hospitality.My favourite goat is the last one------A Yi.It is in a green shirt, I find it very cute and lovely, and its coulour also tells us not to pollute the environment but to save and protect it.
It's another very important sport activity after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In order to welcome its coming, some sport stadiums need to be renew. At the same time, building up some modern stadiums is also necessary. Secondly，we need trying our best to train ourselves and set a great example. Then, we should welcome the people from all over the Asia with our hospitality. Thirdly, we must clean up the public locations and improve city infrastructure, but the most important thing is some people in Guangzhou still throw the rubbish everywhere, some of them even spit in the streets,it is very impolite to do that. So, as the host,we must pay attention to our behaviers. Please do not throw the rubbish everywhere, and everybody should try one's best to keep our city clean.
　In my opinion, this Asian Games is so grand because it will be hold in my hometown. I'm very proud of it. Asian Game can unit most of the Asian countries. I hope Guangzhou can make full use of opportunity to show Guangzhou's beauty and modernization to the whole Asia people,“Thrilling Games，hammonious Asian”. I believe we can make it perfect,that's what the Guangzhou people think so.
