I looked around with15minutes left, because I had finished and was checking my test.I noticed something very peculiar!Mr. Ward was staring right at one of the kids that seemed to be only half way done with his test.Mr. Ward did not take his eyes off of this kid, which seemed weird to me. For the remainder of the test,Mr. Ward watched that kid as he struggled in a wild manner, flipping papers back and forth and writing and erasing even more furiously. He seemed to use his calculator a lot more than he needed. Mr. Ward seemed to have found something unusual. After the exam,Mr. Ward asked the kid he was watching to go to the his office. He closed the door and from that moment on,I heard about4minutes of Mr. Ward yelling at the kid. The kid was terrified and trembling, telling Mr. Ward what he had done during the exam. had written his answers inside the cover of the calculator and every time he was "using his calculator" he was really looking at the formulas and other stuff. Mr. Ward tore up his paper and gave the kid a zero for the end of the year exam. That was the first and the last time that I have seen Mr. Ward ever yell like that.详解阅读A【解析】本文主要讲了作者意识到自己花了太多的时间在社交上,于是进行了为期一个月的实验,完全切断社交生活,作者很享受这段惬意生活。

It is time to experience new things and studies alone do not satisfy the students. This is where out-of-class activites come in. These activities range from clubs, organizations and groups to sports. They are all directed by students themselves. Each organization has an advisor, but student members plan all activities and events. In a university there are as many as hundreds of student organizations for students to choose from. Eachstudent is sure to have a club or group that fits his needs or interests. The clubs range from religion to community service, sports and hobbies. For example, there are ski clubs, yoga clubs, dance clubs, etc. If you cannot find a club that you are interested in, you can have an idea for a new club, and form one youself. All you have to do is to pass the idea through the school nd find an advisor and if the school agrees, you’ll have a new student organization!Clubs and organizations help students explore their interests, which may turn into lifelong hobbies or even become their careers in life.【答案解析】第二部分阅读理解第一节A【主旨大意】本文讲述了初为人父母的Ogg夫妇面对新生双胞胎儿子即将夭折之际不放弃的精神,最终从死神手里夺回了儿子的故事。

AI considered an active social life as basic human necessity. Yet when it dawned on me just how much time I was spending socializing, I realized I may be taking it to an extreme. I found that, on average, I was spending 22 hours or more each week on social activities. So, to see what would happen to my work output, health and wellbeing, I decided to try and cut out my social life entirely.I knew, at times, I filled my schedule simply out of fear of missing out (担心被熟人忘记), but also as a way to shift focus away from my work. For one month, I declined all in-person activities with friends: going out for drinks; dinners; parties and non-work related events, to see if it would make me more productive, improve my concentration and career future. On the first day of the month-long experiment, I had to fight some anxiety over missing out. But as the days passed, I started to relax. I only had one choice to consider for Saturday night—to stay home—and this limitation left me more satisfied with my decision. I felt more content working, reading or watching TV.While I found more time to work, I also noticed a change in my overall health. I found myself cooking more at home, doing daily exercise, getting to bed earlier each night, reading, and enjoying moments of rest and boredom throughout the day.Having no social life left me more free time than I’d imagine. Such free moments are vital for creativity, and mind wandering has been linked to creative problem solving. During the experiment I found myself regularly brainstorming new ideas and reimagining existing projects.Of course socializing is an important way to build work contacts. While one month of no social life did not impact my relationship with existing clients, if I had continued, it may harm my ability to build new ones. 21.Why did the author make up his mind to stop all of his social life? A.Some people were too difficult to get along with.B.He wanted to see the influence on his work, health and happiness.C.It was not necessary for him to have so many work contacts.D.He wanted to shift his focus from work to daily life.22.Which of the following is NOT one of the changes in the author’s healthy life? A.Taking exercise every day.B.Having more time to rest.C.Getting up early to enjoy fresh air.D.Having more chances to cook at home.23.What did the author think of the one-month experiment?A.It left him with regular moments to think of new ideas.B.He often felt very bored during this long period.C.He often had to fight some anxiety over missing out.D.He found that he was actually not satisfied with this decision. 24.What can you infer from the lastparagraph?A.The author will continue to do as what he did in the experiment.B.The author will spend a proper amount of time in socializing.3C.The experiment has affected his relationship with his customers.D.The author will spend more time socializing than before the experiment.BCan you remember the first time you learned to ride a bike or drive a car? Learning theses s kills changed your life forever and opened up new horizons (视野).Learning about computers can be like learning how to ride a bike or drive a car. Once you have employed the time to master the skills, you will never go back to the old days. The new technology is just too convenient and too powerful.Technological developments all through the years have enabled us to have more than our own abilities. We have continuously looked for better ways of doing things. Each invention and new development has allowed us to extend our capabilities. Today we see one of the most dramatic technologies ever developed—the computer. It extends the capabilities of our minds.Computers have saved organizations millions of dollars. Furthermore, these same computer systems have opened up new opportunities that would have gone undiscovered or ignored. There is no doubt that computers have a positive influence upon people’s life, and the growth of computer usage is surprising. On the other hand, the computer can do serious damage. Invasion of privacy (侵犯隐私), fraud (欺诈), and computer-related mistakes are just a few shocking examples. So the computer is like a double-edged sword. It has the ability to cut us free from some activities, but it can also cut deep into financial profits (利益), personal privacy and our society in general. The choice is yours, and only through a knowledge of computer systems will you be able to avoid the dangers while enjoying the many, many benefits of the computer age.25.Why does the author mention learning to ride a bike?A.To lead in the topic to be talked about in the passage.B.To show riding a bike is the most important.C.To say the skill of riding comes before computer.D.To show that skill of riding bikes is not powerful.26.W hat does the underlined word “extends” mean in the second paragraph.A.Exhibits.B. Exercises.C. Examines.D. Expands.27.W hat’s the purpose of the last paragraph?A.To explain the importance of computers.B.To emphasize the surprising growth of computer usage.C.To stress the danger of the invasion of privacy through computer.D.To show how to avoid the great damage while enjoying the benefits. COrganic food, grown without artificial chemicals, is increasingly popular nowadays. Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels (标签). However, if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritious and safer product, then you’d better save your money. A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products aren't necessarily more nutritious, and they're no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria, either. For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleagues conducted a review of two categories(种类)of research, including 17 studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products, and 223 studies that analyzed the nutritional content of the foods, including key vitamins, minerals and fats. While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content, they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were420% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, suchas chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small, and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesn't always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product. The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that "whether you buy organic or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect on taste." Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.28.What does the underlined sentence in the first paragraph mean?. A.Organic food helps you save money.anic food is not always nutritious.anic food contains much more nutrients.anic food is worth the high price.29.How did Smith-Spangler and her colleagues carry out the research?. A.They made 223 studies about the consumers.B.They made 17 studies about the nutrients.C.They made two kinds of research.D.They compared the consumers with the nutrients.30.What might be the author’s attitude to ward organic food? A.It makes little difference to have organic food.B.It costs less money if we all buy organic food.C.Only the freshest organic food is worth twice the price.D.We should not spend any money on organic food.第二节(共5 小题;每小题2 分,满分10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
