Canada is one of the few nations in the world to have two official languages:English and French. There are 10 provinces in the country but only one of these—Quebec—is known as “French Canada”.This is because it was founded by French explorers while British adventurers discovered the rest.Canada left the British empire in 1867 to become an independent country, and English and French have been recognized as the official languages ever since. Most people speak English as their first language and the two national television networks broadcast in English throughout the country.Apart from in Quebec and a few places on the east coast,French television is very rare. The same goes for ,for example.Outside of Quebec, there are only a few places where you’ll see traffic signs in French. And in restaurants,it’s almost impossible to find French on the menu unless you are in the heartland of “French Canada”.However, all products sold in Canada must,by law, have labels and instructions in both languages. In Canada’s Englishspeaking provinces, official bilingualism(双语) means that students can choose to complete a special French language course.Under this programme, they are taught most of their subjects in French. If a student begins the course in kindergarten or Grade One,it is likely that all their lessons will be in French. However,if they start at junior high school,25 percent of the teaching will continue to be in English. 1.Where can you watch French television programmes? In Quebec and a few other places.2.Which country ruled Canada before its independence?Britain.3.Fill in the blank in Paragraph 4 with proper words.(no more than 5 words) traffic signs and menusPeriod One Warming Up & ReadingⅠ. 设法做manage to do4. 有天赋have a gift for1.Rather than take the aeroplane all the way, they decided to fly to Vancouver and then take the train from west to east across Canada.

Nothing succeeds like confidence. When you are truly confident,it comes from you like sunlight, and attracts success to you like a magnet(磁铁).It’s important .Believe that you can do it under any circumstances, because if you believe you can, then you really will. The belief keeps you searching for answers, which means that pretty soon you will get them.Confidence is more than an attitude. It comes from knowing exactly where you are going and exactly how you are going to get there. It comes from acting with honesty and confidence. It comes from a strong sense of purpose. It comes from a strong commitment to take responsibility, rather than just letting life happen. One way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and to get a record of successful experience behind you.Confidence is sympathy and understanding. It is not arrogance.Arrogance is born out of fear and insecurity, while confidence comes from strength and honesty.Confidence is not just believing you can do it.Confidence is knowing you can do it.Know that you are capable of accomplishing anything you want, and live your life with confidence.Anything can be achieved through focused, determined effort and self-confidence.If your life is not what you want it to be,you have the power to change it,and you must make the changes on a moment by moment basis.Live your priorities in the life.Live with your goals and your plan of action.Act with your own purpose, and you will have the life you want. 1.What’s the best title of the text? How to Develop Confidence/Confidence Is Essential to Success2.Fill in the blank in Paragraph 2 with proper words.to believe in yourself3.Which sentence in the text is closest in meaning to the following one?If you do things according to your own plan, you will have the life that you want to live.Act with your own purpose, and you will have the life you want.Period One Getting Ready & ReadingⅠ. 完善;完美4.apologise v i. 重点短语1.full of sth. 2.be proud of sb./sth.因…… 3.be ashamed of sb./sth./yourself羞愧;惭愧4.leak out漏出,渗出;泄露5.all the way一路上;一直;完全6.feel sorry for sth. 感到抱歉7.take notice of sth. 8.on the side of sb./sth. 一边9.know about sth. 10.take advantage of sb./sth. 的便宜11.in some aspect在某方面12.be afraid of sb./sth. 1.One pot had a crack in it while the other was perfect.

Unit 5Theme parks话题导入-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The first theme parks in the world that usually come to mind are WaltDisney World and Disneyland t which are located in Florida and Californiarespectively.lt is no surprise that they are among the largest and most visitedtheme amusement parks in the world.Walt DisneyWorld embodies the definition of the theme park, and in its main section, the Magic Kingdom, there are several theme mini-parks that display this even further. An example of these sections is Frontierland, where visitors can experience the architecture of the old west of the United Statest and in it they can ride rides and see live shows that highlight this era of American culture.Throughout the entire park, these minor themes are tied together with the major themes of the park, such as its mascot. Mickey Mouse・Other theme parks imitate Disney' s successful formula but alter it by using mainly corpora e themes and focusing more mainly on thrill rides for the amusement of patrons.Busch Gardens and Six Flags are examples of these types of theme parks, and the former uses live animals and a zoo-like atmosphere for some of its themes. Each park can be different and unique in its own ways, and the more successful parks stay in competition with one another by constantly expanding and by adding more shows and rides every couple of years. 1 • When we talk about the theme parks, which parks do we first think of?Walt Disney World and Disneyland・2- Which two parks imitate Disney successfully in the article?Busch Gardens and Six Flags.3 - If you have a chance to visit a theme park, which one will you prefer? The class ends by students filling a form. Objectives■To help students read the passage HEROIC TEENAGER RECEIVES AW ARD on page 38■To help students use the language by listening, speaking and writing as wellProcedures1. Warming up reading aloud the textRead aloud to warm up: Let’s warm up by reading aloud to the recording of the text HEROIC TEENAGER RECEIVES AWARD.2. Reading and discussingThis reading passage is in the form of a newspaper article and is an example of how knowledge of first aid can save lives. Before you read the newspaper article, let’s discuss the scenario in groups: You can hear a woman screaming. You find her sitting on the ground, bleeding heavily from deep knife wounds in her hands. Do you help her? If so, what do you do?Often readers only want to get a quick idea of a newspaper article and do not want to know all the details. For this reason you might read just the headline and the first paragraph. It gives information that answers the questions Who? When?Where? What? And often also Why?and How?3.Reading and underliningNext you are to read and underline all the useful expressions or collocations in the passage. Copy them into your notebook and write a short passage, making use of them after class as homework.4.Doing exercisesNow you are going to do Exercises 1, 2, 3 and 4 on page 39 following the article.5. Recently, a cleaner by the name of Chen Liyan has made the headlines for her generous and honest act. The 45-year-old Chen was sweeping the floor at Taiyuan Railway Station early last Tuesday morning when she found a small plastic bag near a chair and discovered 100,000 yuan inside. Chen was shocked but she was determined to return the money to its owner. When interviewed by the local paper yesterday, Chen said, “I would have felt bad if I had kept the money. After all, the owner might have needed it badly.” While working, Chen watched carefully for anyone who might have been the owner. She waited for over two hours, but having no luck, she went to the nearest police station to turn the money in. There, it was finally returned to its owner. Wang Zheng. Wang thanked Chen repeatedly and apologised for the inconvenience, even offering her 5,000 yuan as a reward. To his surprise, however, Chen refused, believing that it would be wrong to accept money that she had not earned. But what is even more surprising, perhaps, is that Chen’s daughter, 16-year-old Liu Xia is currently seriously ill. Chen had already spent the last of her savings on the ongoing treatments and has also taken out a large loan. Fortunately, Ma Dongbao, who works at the police station, stepped in. Living in the same apartment building as Chen’s family, Ma was well aware of Chen’s difficulties. When Wang was told about Chen’s situation, he decided to set up a fundraising website to pay for Liu’s hospital bills. Chen Liyan’s example shows a different way of thinking about money. Money is important, but to people like Chen, it definitely isn’t everything. And that’s a great attitude to take. Now, in other news, one city in …[Fade out.]
