1)My horse 2)Personification 拟人
He gives his harness bells a shake,
To ask if there is some mistake.
The first stanza tells us that the man is stopping in front of the woods owned by another person in the village--the village and the owner can both represent human society. Only the man is watching the woods being filled up with snow. The woods and snow can both hint at natural occurrences.
The climax of the whole poem is when the man is woken up by his horse and steps out of fantasy but he finds himself in a contradiction between reality and fantasy.
The owner of the woods
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
The only other sound’s the sweep,

Theme
This poem stresses a central conflict between man's enjoyment of natural beauty and his responsibility in society. This shows a man's despairing courage to seek out the meaning of life.
Implied meaning: there are still numerous responsibilities before the speaker’s life comes to an end.
(3) Images/Symbolism (意象/象征)
Woods--The mystery of nature; the temptations in our life
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
• This stanza reveals the woods’ attraction towards the man as it is “lovely, dark and deep”. It also shows the man’s determination to break away from such aesthetic temptation because he has to take on worldly burdens and responsibilities (“promises”).
(2) Rhetorical Device(修辞):
Alliteration (头韵) sound & sleep; dark & deep
Personification (拟人) “he”—horse “My little horse must think it queer.” “To ask if there is some mistake.”
“Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”
by Robert Frost
Questions:
1.Why did “I” stop by woods? 2.Why did the horse give the harness bell a shake? 3.Why couldn’t the speaker stay longer by the woods to appreciate its mysterious beauty? 4. What is the effect of repetition in the last two lines?

Within the four lines of each stanza, the first, second, and fourth lines rhyme. The third line does not, but it sets up the rhymes for the next stanza.
