Created in 2022, the cafe was a response to the need in the community for programs that would enable youth with special needs to develop social and professional skills in a safe environment. The cafe was the idea of Pennsylvania mom Maureen Stanko, a teacher, fitness instructor, and musician, who was concerned about her son Nick, who has autism (孤独症) and food allergies, and what he would be able to do after graduation. In Pennsylvania, students with disabilities can stay in school until age 22, but worrying about Nick’s future is what keeps Stanko up at night.Stanko was so worried that she spoke to Nick’s therapist, Tyler Kammerle, who had dreamed about opening a restaurant to employ people with disabilities. The two worked together to make this a reality. Two years later, the So Much To Give Inclusive Cafe was born. It employed 63 people and 80 percent of them have some form of disability. The cafe is more than just a space to work; it’s also a place for people with disabilities and their families to dine. “We’d never even taken Nick to a restaurant before because we wouldn’t spend all this money to eat out to be completely stressed out,” Stanko said. “This cafe has taught Nick how to sit in a restaurant. And now we have a place to go, where if he stands up and starts hopping or clapping, nobody cares.”The inclusive cafe has made a real difference in people’s lives. One of the staff, Lauren Oppelts, who is hearing impaired, said, “If you told me two years ago that I would be a server, I wouldn’t believe you. But now I have gained so much self-confidence. A lot of employees here have changed so much; it’s just mind-blowing.”24. Why did Stanko and Tyler Kammerle establish the cafe?A. To serve people with various abilities.B. To provide a place for family occasions.C. To instruct graduates in professional skills.D. To offer employment to youth with special needs.25. What was Stanko’s concern about taking Nick to a restaurant?A. The cost of dining out.B. The noisy customers in restaurants.C. The lack of an inclusive environment.D. The food allergies Nick is suffering from.26. How has working at the cafe affected Lauren Oppelts?A. She has taken to socializing.B. She has grown more positive.C. She has become experienced in cooking.D. She has recovered from her hearing disability.27. Which of the following best describes Stanko?A. Caring and responsible.B. Ambitious and devoted.C. Determined and sensitive.D. Tough and reliable.CHumans visiting Mars will likely happen within the next 15 years. However, it will be a nine-month journey one way. And dehydrated (脱水的) food for space missions, which is lessnutritious than fresh food and difficult to pack too much, isn’t ideal for feeding humans in the long term. Finding a way to feed humans on Mars is, therefore, critical before anyone steps on the Red Planet.A recent study offered a practical method for growing nutrient-rich vegetables by drawing upon an ancient farming technique, intercropping, used by the Mayans centuries ago. Intercropping, as opposed to monocropping, consists of multiple plants being grown together in the same fields.Researchers compared three different crops — tomatoes, carrots and peas — in Mars-like soil called regolith, soil and river sand, all by monocropping and intercropping. The researchers believed they would complement each other. Tomatoes provide climbing support for peas and shade for carrots, while peas fix nitrogen (氮) in soil by turning it into food for plants. Carrots, in turn, improve water and nutrient intake. There were 60 pots of plants in total in Mars-like greenhouses. In all three soil types, all the crops grew. Tomatoes did especially well in the intercropping regolith. However, the peas and carrots were not fans of sharing a pot with tomatoes in the regolith, producing decreased yields. There’re several possible reasons. Tomatoes are “heavy feeders” likely taking nutrients from the peas and carrots. Additionally, the bacteria working together with peas for nitrogen-fixing couldn’t survive in the regolith, resulting in the peas not being able to fix nitrogen for neighboring crops. This study, however, is still promising to researchers, as they’ve come up with ways to adjust the regolith. Besides, intercropped plants did better in the river sand than monocropped plants, proving intercropping would be beneficial to agriculture on Earth as well, especially in places where soil is becoming sandier. Not just astronauts on Mars, but many communities on Earth have plenty to learn from the Mayans.28. Why is farming a vital requirement for exploring Mars?A. It ensures an increased yield of food on Mars.B. It provides a source of relaxation for astronauts.C. It supplies astronauts with fresh and nutritious food.D. It tests the effects of Martian soil on Earth-based crops.29. What does the underlined word “complement” in paragraph 3 mean?A. Isolate.B. Supply.C. Reply.D. Harm.30. What may cause the decreased pea and carrot yields in the regolith?A. The peas failed to fix nitrogen.B. The tomatoes took up too much space.C. They were sensitive to the Mars-like soil.D. They were not exposed to enough sunlight.31. What can be a suitable title for the text?A. Mars: the New Frontier for Agricultural InnovationB. The Advantages and Challenges of Growing Crops on MarsC. Intercropping Helps Sustainable Martian Agriculture Come TrueD. Agriculture on Mars Is Possible Thanks to Mayan Farming PracticesDWhat’s in a name? Quite a lot, actually. It is an important part of human identity. It turns out, however, that it is not only humans who use names. It has long been known that African elephants are very social creatures with highly developed brains. They make all sorts of sounds from low rumblings, barely audible to the human ear, to loud trumpeting sounds. It was these sounds, and his knowledge of dolphin behavior where a dolphin will copy somebody else’s signature whistle in order to get their attention that led Dr. Mickey Pardo, a professor at Cornell University, to try and figure out if any of those sounds were names. In order to confirm this Pardo and his colleagues had artificial intelligence (AI) analyze, the recordings of 469 rumbling noises made by wild African elephants from Kenya between the years 1986 and 2022. They hoped that the recordings would contain identifying information, that is to say, a name, for the elephant the rumbling call was made to. The AI identified 469 distinct calls. The researchers then went out into the field. They worked with 17 elephants, mostly female, to see whether they reacted to the recorded sound of their own names. Amazingly, the elephants seemed to know when they were being called and both replied quickly and approached the loudspeaker when they heard recordings that included the distinct call that referred to them. What’s interesting is that many of the names seemed to be called by mothers addressing their young. In addition, adult elephants used these distinct calls more often than young ones. This may indicate that name calling is a skill that takes some time to learn for youngelephants.Unfortunately, it’s unclear which exact part of the rumbling calls indicated the specific name. Knowing that information would open up a whole new world in terms of our understanding of elephants and their social structure.“Do they ever use somebody’s name when they’re not there?” Pardo wondered. Whatever the case, this is still big news, and an important reminder that humans are more similar to our animal relatives than they are different.32. What did Dr. Mickey Pardo’s study focus on?A. The meanings of a variety of elephant sounds.B. The AI analysis of recordings of elephant sounds.C. The similarity between elephant and dolphin communication.D. The identification of specific calls referring to individual elephants.33. How did the elephants respond to the recorded sound?A. They ignored it.B. They approached it.C. They tried to imitate it.D. They attacked the loudspeaker.34. What does the study suggest about the use of specific calls among elephants?A. It is used by elephants of all ages.B. It is a skill that young elephants master quickly.C. It may be a learned skill that develops over time.D. It is only used by adult elephants to address young ones.35. What can be concluded from the study?A. Elephants are good at social skills.B. Elephants can use names to call each other.C. AI played a great role in translating elephant calls.D. Elephants can recognize recordings of various sounds.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

This may seem strange to you, since nearly 70% of the earth's surface is covered with water. But about 97% of that is sea water, or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3%—— the fresh water from rivers, lakes, underground, and other sources. And we can not even use all of that. Even worse, some of it has been made dirty. However, as things stand today, this fresh water is still enough for us. But ourneed for water is becoming larger and larger quickly —— almost day by day. We should take steps to do with this problem now and in this way we can get away from a serious world wide water shortage (缺少 ) later on.We all have to learn how to stop wasting our valuable water. One of the first steps is to develop ways of reusing it. Today in most l arge cities, water is used only once and then sent out into a sewer system(下水道 ). From there it returns to sea or runs into underground places. But even if every large city reused its water, we still would not have enough. All we'd have to do to make use of sea water in the world is to remove the salt. It is said that the car has made the United States a nation on wheels. And it helped to make the United States what it is today. There are three main reasons why the car became so popular in the Unites States. First of all, the country is a huge one and Americans like to move around in it. The car provides the most comfortable and cheapest form of transportation. The second reason is that the United States never really developed an efficient and cheap form of public transportation. Long-distance trains have never been as common in the United States as they are in other parts of the world. Today there is a good system of air service by plane. But air travel costs too much money so that it cannot be used frequently. The third reason is the most important one. The American spirit of independence is what had really made cars popular. Americans don’t like to wait for a bus, or a train or even a plane. They don’t like to have to follow an exact timetable. Ther efore the freedom a car gives them is what Americans want most. The decrease of oil supplies has caused a big problem for Americans. But the fear will not be bigger system of public transportation. The real solution will have to be a new kind of car, one that does not use so much oil.51. That the United States is called a nation on the wheel is because .A. cars are very popular in AmericaB. there are many wheels in AmericaC. there are many planes in AmericaD. there are many trains in America52. The most important reason why cars are so popular in the US is .A. Americans like to visit different placesB. Americans like to go about freelyC. the American spirit of independenceD. other types of transportation are not so efficient53. According to the sentence “ And it helped to make the United States what it is today”(Line 2,Para1), we can conclude that .A. the car has made the United States a very rich countryB. the transportation has been developed rapidlyC. the car has become America’s most modern form of transportationD. the car has made it possible for Americans to enjoy their modern life54. All of the following statements are true except .A. the American people are quite mobileB. air service plays an equally important part as the car doesC. people have been trying to find the solution to the short supplies of oilD. Americans’ independent spirit plays a role in the popularity of cars55. The word “efficient” in the third par agraph probably means .A. inexpensiveB. economicalC. convenientD.speedyCOn my first day of high school, I asked an eleventh-grader where my class was. And he told me it was "on the fourth floor, next to the pool." I found out five minutes later that we didn't even have a fourth floor and there was no pool either! Besides that, I didn't have any trouble with the older kid.I think the biggest difference between middle and high school is the homework load (工作量) and size of the school. I went from maybe fifteen minutes of homework a night to several hours, so I had to learn how to make full use of time! Our class size is around 550, but joining in clubs, sports, music and other activities at school makes it easier to get to know people in every grade. The best advice I can give about the years you spend in high school is to learn things for yourself, not just to get a good grade. There have been so many tests that I've prepared for the night before, gotten an A, but not remember anything later. I've changed that this year, and I enjoy school so much more. Don't take easy classes just to have a simple year. If you have a choice between chemistry and sports, the first will prove to be a lot more useful! While drinking and smoking might be present in some middle schools, they are also around in high school. I have a lot of friends who promised they would never drink or smoke, but are now partying every weekend. If you have "fun" and spend your nights wasted instead of studying, you will regret it when you are applying for (申请) college. The "friends" who say you are a loser for not partying are really not your friends at all. It's hard to see your closest friends grow apart and go in different directions, but don't follow their footsteps. Follow your own path in life and make your own decisions.56What happened to the writer on his first day of high school?A. He had a fight with an eleventh-grader.B. He was fooled by a schoolboy.C. He was five minutes late for class.D. He fell into a pool on the fourth floor.57According to paragraph 2, the writer thinks that in high school _____.A. It needs hard work to finish homeworkB. There are very few activitiesC. It's hard to meet new people thereD. There is always much free time58The writer advises high school students to _____.A. give up sportsB. choose useful classesC. try their best to get good gradesD. get ready for test the night before59.The passage is probably written for ______.A. high school studentsB. high school teachersC. college studentsD. sports players60.The last paragraph mainly tells us ______.A. about the trouble caused by drinking and smokingB. about the importance of making friendsC. not to go to any party in high schoolD. not to lose ourselves in high schoolDSteven woke on Christmas morning to find a new sled (雪橇). "Oh, wow!" he shouted. This was the best Christmas present! Steven was still excited as the rest of his family opened their gifts. Secretly, he hoped he could get outside quickly to try out his new sled. Finally, Steven asked, "Dad, is it okay if I try out my sled?" Dad agreed. Soon, Steven was sledding down Twin Hills in the neighbourhood park. He felt the wind against his face as he flew down.Later that day, Steven carefully leaned (靠) the sled up against the outside of his house under his bedroom window. The next day, Steven ran outside as soon as he could. "Oh, no!" Steven shouted. His sled was missing! He ran as fast as he could to the park. There at Twin Hills he found it! Steven's neighbour, Kevin, was on Steven's new sled! "Kevin! That's my sled! You stole my new sled!" But Kevin just laughed and headed up the hill for another run down.Steven ran home, crying all the way. He found his dad in the garage (车库) and told him what had happened. Steven's dad said, "Calm down, Son. There may be another reason for the missing of your sled."Steven couldn't believe his dad was siding with Kevin. "But, Dad. Kevin's at Twin Hills using my sled right now! We need to go to get it!"Dad said patiently, "First of all, you need to make sure your sled is actually stolen. Look over there." Steven was surprised at what he saw. His sled leaned against the wall of the garage next to his bicycle. Dad put his arm around Steven and said, "I put your sled away last night when I saw you had left it outside." Steven hung his head. He felt bad about the way he had spoken to his neighbour. "I should say sorry to Kevin," he said. Dad replied, "There's no time like the present."61.What did Steven do after Dad agreed?A.He opened all his presents. During the day, deer hide in the high grass quietly, listening for any noise and ready to run away at the first sign of danger. Nighttime is when deer really get active. They move around all the time in search of grass and other plants to eat. They can run as far as 60 km in one night! Female (雌性的) deer live in groups with their young, while males (雄鹿) prefer to be on their own or with other males. But in the autumn, things change. The woods are full of the sounds of male deer. They let out sounds to draw females’ attention and to let other males know that they are ready to fight over the female deer. Male deer fight each other with their antlers (鹿角).A baby deer is called a fawn (幼鹿). The coat of a newborn fawn is covered in pretty white spots (斑点) that disappear as it gets older. The mother deer watches over her babies and bravely protects them from dangers. Although female deer don't have antlers, they fight off other animals by kicking!A male deer's antlers carry on growing all his life. A ten-year-old deer's antlers can have more than 10 branches (分枝) and weigh 20 kg each. Every spring, the antlers drop off and an even larger set will take their place. You can tell how old a deer is by counting the number of branches on his antlers. The more branches it has, the older the deer is.66.In Paragraph 1, the word "spot" has the closest meaning to "________".A.make B.hurt C.raise D.see67.What do the deer do at night?A.Look for food. Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off. You can make your environment work for youinstead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of diet plan.Open the curtains and turn on the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less self-conscious(自觉)when they're in poorly lit places—and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn't have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites(食欲). In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room ate 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it's time to repaint, go blue.Don't forget the clock—or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you're at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12-inch plate instead of a 10-inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake jumps by 14 percent. And we'll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.(1)The text is especially helpful for those who care about ________.A.their home comfortsB.house buyingC.their body shapeD.healthy diets(2)A home environment in blue can help people ________.A.digest food betterB.reduce food intakeC.burn more caloriesD.regain their appetites(3)What are people advised to do at mealtimes?e smaller spoons.B.Play fast music.C.Eat quickly.D.Turn down the lights.4.In times of economic crisis(危机), Americans turn to their families for support. If the Great Depression(经济大萧条)is any guide, we may see a drop in our sky-high divorce rate. But this won't necessarily represent an increase in happy marriages, nor is the trend likely to last. In the long run. theDepression weakened American families. and the current crisis will probably do the same.We tend to think of the Depression as a time when families pulled together to survive huge job losses. The divorce rate, which had been rising slowly since the Civil War, suddenly dropped in 1930, the year after the Depression began. By 1932, when nearly one quarter of the workforce was unemployed, it had dropped by around 25% from 1929. But this does not mean that people were suddenly happier with their marriages. Rather, with incomes decreasing and insecure jobs, unhappy couples often couldn't afford to divorce.Today, considering the job losses of the past year. fewer unhappy couples will risk starting separate households. What's more, the housing market will make it more difficult for them to finance their separations by selling their homes. After financial disasters, family members also tend to do whatever they can to help each other and their communities. In a 1940 book, Mirra Komarovsky described a family in which the husband initially reacted to losing bis job" with tireless search for work. "He was always active, looking for part-time jobs or washing windows for neighbors. Another unemployed man initially enjoyed spending more time with his young children. The problem is that such enthusiasm is hard to keep up. The men Komarovsky studied eventually grew discouraged and their relationships with their wives and teenage children worsened. Across the country, many similar families finally failed to keep their families together. Then the divorce rate began to rise again.Millions of American families may now be in the early stage of their responses to the current crisis. During the Depression this stage seemed to last a year at most. Today, it might last longer. Wives now share with their husbands the burden of earning money, and the government provides more assistance. But history suggests that this response will be temporary. By 1940 the divorce rate was higher than before the Depression. So it is only when the economy is healthy again that we will begin to see just how many broken families have been created.(1)In the initial stage, what is the current economic crisis likely to cause?A.Leading to more family conflicts.B.Helping create strong family ties.C.Causing a drop in the divorce rate.D.Tearing many troubled families apart.(2)Why did many unhappy couples choose to stick together in the Depression?A.Living separately would be costly.B.They didn't want to hurt their kids.C.Starting a new family would be hard.D.They expected things to become better.(3)The author mentions the 1940 book to show that ________.A.hardships made people more courageousB.support between family members didn't lastC.the man was the only bread-winner of the familyD. many families pulled together to survive the crisis(4)What can be implied from the last paragraph?A.Money is the basis of many a happy marriage.B. It will take a long time for the economy to recover.C.The economic recovery will see a higher divorce rate.D.The current crisis is much more serious than the Depression.5.A US government study has found that facial recognition technology is getting better at identifying people wearing masks. The study is part of an ongoing research by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST). The agency has examined the effectiveness of more than 150 facial recognition systems on people wearing face coverings. The systems are powered by machine learning algorithms(算法).The first results of the study were announced in July, as health officials across the world urged people to wear masks to limit the spread of COVID-19. New findings were released this week. Police agencies have long used facial recognition technology to search for and help catch criminals. It can also be used to unlock phones or other electronic devices. Some robots use facial recognition technology to recognize the people they are communicating with. However, the wide use of masks in public has created major difficulties for such systems. The study looked at facial recognition systems already in use before the pandemic. It also looked at systems specially developed to work on masked faces. The NIST said it processed a total of 6.2 million images for the experiment. People in the images were not actually wearing masks. So, the researchers digitally added different mask shapes to faces in the pictures for use in the study. In some cases, up to 70 percent of a person's face was covered in the images. Overall, the research shows the top-performing facial recognition systems fail to correctly identify unmasked individuals about 0.3 percent of the time and the failure rate rose to about 5 percent with masked images. Many of the lower performing algorithms, however, had much higher error rates with masked images—as high as 20 to 50 percent. In the latest findings, researchers included results from 65 new facial recognition systems that have been developed since the start of the pandemic. "Some of these systems performed 'significantly better' than the earlier ones," Mei Ngan, a lead researcher on the project, said in a statement. The study also found round-shaped masks—which cover only the mouth and nose—led to fewer errors than wider ones that stretch across the cheeks. The new study also ran tests to see whether different colored masks would affect error rates. The team used red, white, black and light blue. The research findings suggested that generally, the red and black masks led to higher failure rates than the other colors.(1)How does the author mainly present the study finding?A.By giving definitions and examples.B.By giving examples and a brief description.C.By presenting data and making a comparison.D.By giving definitions and presenting data.(2)According to the study, what has affected the effectiveness of facial recognition?A.The speed of the machine learning algorithms.B.The operators' skill in performing algorithms.C.The number of the tested people.D.The diversity of face coverings.(3)Who is the most difficult to recognize?A.A girl wearing a white round-shaped mask.B.A lady with a red mask stretching across her cheeks.C.A man wearing a light blue mask covering his mouth and nose.D.A man wearing a black mask with his nose and mouth covered up.(4)What is the author's attitude towards the facial recognition systems?A.Objective.B.Negative.C.Uncaring.D.Doubtful.三、书面表达(本题共计 2 小题,每题 5 分,共计10分)6. 第一节假定你是李华,你校上周六在南山社区进行了义务劳动。

His family hoped that he would join his father's business, but he showed great interest in art when he was very young. Finally, his family allowed him to enter the Royal Academy School, a very famous art college in England, at the age of twenty-two.At the Royal Academy, he was a good student, spending all his spare time drawing and reading. He showed his first painting in 1802. Constable believed the greatest art came from using the inspiration(灵感)of nature, rather than using various techniques and imagination on art.In his lifetime, Constable never had much money. His fame only grew after his death. He was unable to earn a living from the paintings. To support his family, Constable often drew portraits(肖像)of others. But it was something he never really enjoyed. He was attracted by the beauty of the British countryside. He sold more paintings in France than in his home country, England, at first. But when given the chance to travel to sell his paintings abroad, he said he would rather "be a poor man in England than a rich man abroad."Constable died in 1837. The rapid development of third-party mobile payment tools is helping to encourage cashless payments across the country, said Dong Ximiao, a researcher at the Rennin University of China.Although there were 3.4 billion third-party payment accounts(帐户)in total in China in 2016, China is not the first country to seek a cashless society. Developed states like Sweden, Denmark and Singapore are also seeing that increase. However, the rapid development of cashless payments does not mean there are no challenges and criticisms. Alibaba's Hema store has come into the spotlight recently. Media reports said that consumers can't buy goods with cash there, which would be considered illegal.Alipay and WeChat Pay, the nation's two major third party mobile payment tools, also launched campaigns this month to encourage more people to use cashless payment methods, which caused concern over whether cash will soon disappear."Some of line sellers refuse to accept cash, which influences the natural circulation(流通)of cash," said Dong. He stressed that a cashless society would not mean that cash would completely disappear. Also it's important to remember that nearly half of China's population live in the countries, unable to enjoy innovation(革新)brought by the Internet, Dong said. And when it comes to China's senior citizens most of them prefer to use cash in their daily lives, he added."It's ridiculous to question digital payment tools' contribution to financial development. 江西省高一月考英语试卷真题及答案BFluency(流利) in another language is one of the most important aims of a newcomer to another country. In addition, understanding the culture and learning to communicate comfortably with people of that culture are as important as learning the rules of the language. Language learning and culture learning go together and may take a long time.Sometimes people feel that they understand a culture after a few weeks or months. People do learn a lot when they first begin living in another culture, but this is only the first stage of learning. It usually involves(含包) things like learning everyday activities and some basic customs. To really understand another culture, people have to go beyond the first stage, This is challenge because it is often difficult to know what to learn. Much of what we call “culture” is hard to see.Culture is like an iceberg. Picture in your mind a huge iceberg in the ocean. The only part of the iceberg that you see is the tip. You don’t see the rest of the iceberg because it is hidden from sight in the water. It is easy to forget that it is there. Most of the iceberg is deep within the ocean, just as much of a culture is deep within its people. When you meet someone from another culture, certain culture differences are obvious: You hear another language or you hear your own language spoken with an accent. You see different foods, clothes andsometimes physical characteristics of people. You observe new customs or habits, such as the use of chopsticks, and, bowing or kissing on both cheeks as a greeting. These differences are interesting and important, but they are usually not too difficult to understand. They are visible so they are seen easily and quickly. The part of culture that is like the underwater part of the iceberg consists of assumptions(设想), communication styles, values, and beliefs about what is right and wrong. The hidden part of culture affects much of a person’s way of thinking and communicating. It is the meaning behind his or her verbal (言语的) and nonverbal language. Learning to communicate well with people from another culture involves becoming aware of the hidden part of culture.61.What’s the subject of this passage?A. Learning about culture.B. Language learning.C. The hidden part of the iceberg.D. Fluency in another language.62.What is learning about culture?A. Learning the hidden part of the iceberg, which is underwater.B. Learning everyday activities and some basic customs.C. Learning the culture of an iceberg.D. Learning the visible as well as the hidden differences of culture.63.What’s the writer’s opinion?A. Communication styles can be easily seen and learned.B. Language learning is more important than culture learning.C. Learning about culture is not easy and may take a long time.D. People usually learn a culture after a few weeks or months.64.The underlined phrase “consists of” can be replaced by “______”.A. lies inB. is made up ofC. agrees withD. is different from65.What conclusion can we draw after reading this passage?A. Values and beliefs are like the tip of the iceberg.B. People often become aware of the hidden part of culture.C. The tip of the iceberg is larger than the hidden part.D. The hidden part of culture has a great effect on people’s communication styles.CHow hard we have all prayed(祈祷) to grow up quickly, and looked forward to the happy days of being a grown-up and enjoying the many interests that a youth should have.At last, you have grown up. At least you are no longer a child. They call you “young lady”. You then enjoy the pleasure of being a young lady. You are proud of being a grown-up teenager. People welcome you-this young lady-heartily. You are glad that your prayer has been answered. But there is always something that troubles you a lot. You say; “Papa and Mama, give me some money please. My pocket money is all gonealready.”“No”, they say, “your age is a dangerous age. If you have too m uch money to spend, it won’t do you any good.” Then you have to stay at home because you dare not go out with an empty pocket.Another time you tell your grandma, “Grandma, see, I am a grown-up now.”“Good, now, you can sit here and knit (编织) this for me while I go and have a rest.” To show that you are no more a child, you have to sit there the whole afternoon doing the work, which only a grown-up can do. After an hour, you find it hard to do, and give the knitting basket back to your grandma. Your grandma criticizes your work. You hear what she says, “Such a big girl can’t do such easy work.” You wish then you were a child again. But the fact is, you are growing up, and you can’t help it. That’s the way it goes!66.The passage is told about _______ problems.A. a growing-up boy’sB. a teenage girl’sC. an old woman’sD. a grown-up’s67.It is clear that the writer, as a teenager, ________.A. is pleased with the present lifeB. is unhappy about growing upC. doesn’t think her, present life happy enoughD. knows happy life will come to her soon68.How does she know her prayer has been answered?A. They are restless and very eager to see new sights. However, they have little idea how they would really do it if given the chance. Because their knowledge of geography is quite limited, they seldom know much about the places they wish to visit or how they would get there.Already hundreds of thousands of Chinese student tourists are visiting these places-Wuyi, Lhasa, Lijiang, Dali, Vientiane and Phnom Penh. Indeed, these students will soon be the most travelled generation in China’s long history. The World Tourist Organization predicts that a quarter of a century from now the number of Chinese tourists going abroad will be twenty times what it is today. The largest percentage of these tourists will visit Southeast Asia. Not all Chinese who travel abroad will be tourists, however. More and more youths are deciding to volunteer their skills in this region; much like their peers in th-e Peace Corps and VSO.Critical thinking skills required include planning for a trip and solving problems after the trip has begun.
