语法小知识——宾语从句大总结
Key points:
◆that不能省略的情况:
(1) 句中出现两个或两个以上由that引导的宾语从句,如:
Robert said (that) he had finished reading the book that he would borrow another one.
(2) 当宾语从句的主语是this,that或者被this和that修饰时,如:
Ann said that this book was very beautiful.
David told us that that was why he was late.
(3) 当宾语从句是双宾语中的直接宾语时,如:
Charlie told me that he would put some signs on the envelop.
◆只能用whether,不能用if的情况:
(1) 在具有选择意义,又有or或or not时,尤其是直接与or not 连用时,往往用whether(if…or not也可以使用)。
如:
Let me know whether/if he will come or not.(=Let me know whether or not he will come.)
(2) 在介词之后用whether。
如:
We’re thinking about whether we can finish the work on time.
(3) whether置于句首时,不能换用if。
如:
Whether this is true or not, I can’t say.
(4) 若用if会引起歧义时,则用whether。
如:
Please let me know if you like the book.可理解为:
①Please let me know whether you like the book. 请告诉我你是否喜欢这本书。
②If you like the book, please let me know. 你如果喜欢这本书,请告诉我。
宾语从句的时态受主句影响,在使用时注意:
(1) 当主句为一般过去时,宾语从句用相应的过去时态,如:
The man told me that he was looking for his son.
The policemen asked the little boy where he lived.
(2) 当主句是现在时态,宾语从句可根据情况选用,如:
He says (that) he will leave a message on her desk.
Do you know how Amy came to school this morning.
Have you asked the teacher when and where we shall meet tomorrow
morning?
(3) 当宾语从句表达客观事实或规律时,其时态不受主句显限制,都用一般现在时,如:
Our geography teacher said that the earth goes round the sun.
