The summery of The Rocking-horse
This is a story abou t a boy tried to win love from his mother.
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful lady married for a man who without power and money, especially luck. Without these, she felt that she couldn’t love anyone any longer, including her children.
Although the family lived in style and was always kept up, there was never enough money. The father was very expensive in his tastes, and wouldn’t do anything worth doing.
As time went by, their house was around by the unspoken phrase: There must be more money! The children could hear it all the time. One day the boy Paul asked his mother what was luck, she said ,“luck is what causes you to have money. If you are lucky you are have money. That’s why it’s better to be born lucky than rich. If you are rich, you may lose your money. But if you are lucky, you will always get more money.”After hearing that, Paul said God told him he was a lucky person. But his mother didn’t pay
any attention to his assertion.
In order to get luck, Paul sat on his big rocking-horse, running fast on its back. Then he climbed down and stood in front of his rocking-horse, staring at its face, red mouth and big, wide, bright eyes. One day, when he was riding his horse, his mother and Uncle Oscar came in. Uncle Oscar found that Paul was familiar to all the racing news and felt very happy. He also knew that all the racing massages were told by Bassett. From that time, Uncle Oscar would ask Paul to give some tips for him time after time and Paul would ride his rocking-horse to get answers of the horsing matches. They soon gained lots of money and Paul’s family became richer and richer. Paul had to move and had a new tutor. Then the house said:“It must be more money!”
Paul has lost more and more money and luck since he didn’t ride his rocking-horse. Toy was going crazy and he almost lost all the bets. Seeing this, his mother was worried about him and asked him to go to the seaside. But the boy refused and promised
to leave after the Derby. Her mother gave in but still worried about him whether safe or not. The Derby was drawing near, and the boy grew more and more nervous. He hardly heard what was spoken to him. At night, he went into a room and rode his rocking-horse as usual. After a while, he screamed, in a powerful, strange voice:“It is Malabar!”Then he felt with a crash to the ground, and his mother rushed to catch him. The boy was ill but 3 days later, Bassett came to tell his master Paul that Paul was win and got over 80,000 ponds.
Paul was excited that he won the game. But the poor litter boy was died. And even as he lay dead, his mother heard her brother’s voice saying to her:“My God. Hester, you're eighty-odd thousand to the good, and a poor devil of a son to the bad. But, poor devil, poor devil, he's best gone out of a life where he rides his rocking-horse to find a winner.”
