道德建设ethics campaign
Public servants are to receive systematic and compulsory training in ethics over the next five years, according to the State Administration of Civil Service. The ethics campaign, which will be “of great significance” in lifting public confidence in the government, will be carried out from 2011 to 2015. The training will include lectures and case studies to improve civil servants’ loyalty to the country and people, as well as their sense of responsibility and honesty. Civil servants in senior positions, or those who “directly face or serve the public” are the key recipients of the training. Ethics和morality都为“道德”。但ethics侧重于“群体规 范”，即个体所在的群体对个体的行为规范，如：social ethics, professional ethics。而morality则侧重于个体自身的 道德品质。

逐步淘汰 phase out
The government on Friday unveiled its three-step plan for phasing out energy-inefficient incandescent light bulbs in an attempt to promote energy conservation and reduce emissions, Xinhua News Agency reported. Imports and sales of 100-watt-and-higher incandescent light bulbs 白炽灯泡 will be banned as of October 1, 2012, Xie Ji, deputy 节能灯： 节能灯： director of the environmental protection department with energy saving lamp; the National Development and Reform Commission said compact fluorescent at a conference. The same rule will apply to 60-watt-andlamp (CFL) above incandescent light bulbs from October 1, 2014. Phase out意为“逐步淘汰”，相当于gradually stop providing or using something。 东西“被淘汰”还可说 sth is falling into disuse。
保健食 functional food
The food safety committee under the State Council announced on Sunday that it would improve regulations regarding the quality and safety of functional food. Companies with false filing information will be denied access into the market and blacklisted, according to a circular（通报 ） issued by the committee. The practice of hyping up（强行刺激） false healing benefits and faking experts’ recommendations will be greatly scrutinized（仔细检查 ）. The move comes after China’s State Food and Drug Administration on Thursday set up a special committee regarding functional foods and cosmetics. “保健食品”在英文中称为functional food，即“有特殊 功效的食品”。把“保健食品”翻译成health food是不准 确的，因为health food是包括所有有益于健康的食物。

involuntary manslaughter 过失杀人
Michael Jackson’s personal physician, Dr Conrad Murray, was found guilty on Monday (local time) of the involuntary manslaughter of the star by a jury in Los Angeles, according to BBC News. A panel of seven men and five women took two days of deliberation（熟虑, 审 议 ） to reach a verdict （裁决 ）. Murray, 58, could now receive a maximum prison term of four years and lose his licence to practise medicine. LaToya Jackson told the Associated Press news agency the family was overjoyed at the verdict. Michael Jackson died on 25 June 2009 from an overdose of the powerful anaesthetic propofol （普鲁泊福）. Involuntary manslaughter意为“过失杀人，误杀”，是指 由于责任过失、责任无为、粗心大意造成的杀人。“蓄意 杀人”为murder。而在正当防卫过程中造成的不必要的凶 杀，即“正当防卫过度”，则称为imperfect self-defense。
Action-packed Conan Edogawa, 17, Japan Conan Edogawa uses his physical skills, logic and reasoning in the Japanese movie Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence. The action-packed animated work opened in theatres across China on November 4. The governor of Tokyo receives a threatening letter and the next day the metro he is on blows up. Conan’s quick wit prevents any casualties. He speculates that clues could be found in the town of Kitanosawa, where people were forced to move out of their home for the construction of a dam. Conan races against the clock to solve the mystery.

In the movie franchise Twilight, Robert Pattinson plays the vampire Edward Cullen who’s deeply in love with Bella Swan, portrayed by Kristen Stewart. In reality, the British actor also finds it hard to bear people saying any harsh words about his girlfriend, Stewart. “I’m protective of anyone close to me. If people say anything about my family or friends, that’s the one time I feel like I really have to do something about it,” he recently told the media. Their latest film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1, will premiere （次 公演 ）on November 18, in which Bella and Edward go on their honeymoon.
