Culture Notes
The concept of a whole language is vast, so a framework of categories is used to describe the varieties of a language. When varieties are classified in terms of users, they are called dialects. Dialect is a regional variety of a language distinguished by pronunciation, grammar, or vocabulary, especially a variety of speech differing from the standard literary language or speech pattern of the culture in which it exists.
