One theory is that people with a good sense of direction have simply worked harder at developing it. He makes the following suggestions:If you are using a map, turn it so it relates to the way you are facing. If you leave your bike in a strange place, put it near something like a big stone or a tree. Note landmarks on the route as you go away from your bike. When you return, go back along the same route (路线).Simplify the way of finding your direction by using lines such as streets in a town. Each year, diseases related to inadequate water and sanitation kill between 2 and 5 million people and cause an estimated 80 percent of all sicknesses in the developing world Safe drinking water is a precondition for health and the fight against child death rate, inequality between men and women, and poverty.Consider these facts:●The average distance that women in Africa and Asia walk to collect water is 6 kilometers.●Only 58 percent of children in sub-Saharan Africa are drinking safe water, and only 37 percent of children in South Asia have access to even a basic toilet.●Each year in India alone, 73 million working days are lost to water-borne diseases. Here are three ways you can help:1)Write CongressCurrent U. But new figures show birdwatching is fast becoming a popular pastime, with almost three million of us absorbed in our fluttering feathered friends.Devoted birdwatchers, those prepared to travel thousands of miles for a sighting of a rare Siberian bird, are fast being joined by a new breed of follower whose interest is satiated by watching a few finches (雀科鸣鸟) on a Sunday walk or putting up a bird-box in the back garden."Almost three million UK birdwatchers is certainly possible if you include everyone with only a casual interest, " Stephen Moss said in his newly published book—A Bird in the Bush: a Social History of Birdwatching—which records the pursuit from the rich Victorian Englishman's love of shooting rare birds to the less offensive observational tendencies of birdwatchers today.Television wildlife programmes have helped to fuel the new trend. Last summer, BBC 2's Britain Goes Wild was a surprise success. It pulled in three million viewers and led to bird-houses selling out across the UK as 45, 000 people promised to put up a box.Birdwatchers' networking system first came to the attention of the nation in 1989, when a birdwatcher caught sight of the first Vermivora chrysoptera—a golden-winged songbird from North America—to be seen in Britain. He put a message out on the network service Birdline, and the next day 3, 000 birdwatchers proved the full pull of a truly rare bird as they visited the Tesco car park in Kent, where it had settled. Today, birdwatchers can log on to or have news of the latest sightings texted to their phones."Multimillion-pound spending on binoculars, bird food and boxes indicates the increasing numbers of birdwatchers, " said David Cromack, the editor of Bird Watching magazine, "The number of people involved is so big that they have great potential to influence government decisions affecting the environment."(1) The word "satiated" in paragraph 2 can best be replaced by "".A. affectedB. sharedC. satisfiedD. narrowed(2) What happened after the message of seeing a Vermivora chrysoptera was put on the network?A.

1: English today is very different from the D. By English spoken long long ago. ________ the 12th century, the language had already changed a lot. A. From B. In C. Until D. By
6. get rid of 摆脱---to free oneself from (something unwanted) How can we get rid of this unwelcome guest? How can we manage to make him leave?
7. hold one’s breath 屏住呼吸 --- stop breathing for a moment When a whale under water, it closes its nose and holds its breath.
2 think “Isn’t it a nice day?” “Do you ___1____ it will rain?” “I think it’s going to rain.” These are starting the common ways of ___2______ conversation. 1) A. think B. see C. say D. feel 2) A. start B. begin C. talking D. starting
1. a couple of 两个;几个 two things related in some way; a few; several; I found a couple of socks in the bedroom but they don’t make a pair. I have a couple of things to do. I waited a couple of hours. 2. be fond of 爱好 like, be keen on, take pleasure in / I am very fond of sports. She likes all her children, but she’s especially fond of Peter.
1) 应选A。
3 Karl Landsteiner first thought of naming put blood into blood types in 1900. He ______________ four types. A. make blood into B. put blood into C. keep blood into D. store blood as
3. compare with 与…比较 to exam or judge (one thing) against another If you compare British football with American football, you will find many differences.
4. deal with 处理 to treat; take action about
How do you deal with this problem? 5. enter for 报名参加 give the name of somebody for a competition, race, etc. You are good at the high jump and the long jump. Why don’t you enter for these two items?
8. keep in touch 接触;联系 --- connection so as to receive information I have kept in touch with my host family in Australia by sending emails since I came back home. 9. show off 炫耀 ---to behave so as to try to get people to admire one, one’s abilities Don’t look at him! He’s just showing off.
