七情 seven emotions
• • • • • • • 喜：happiness， joy 怒：anger, rage 忧：sadness 思：anxiety, contemplation 悲：grief 恐：fear 惊： fright, terror
• “怒伤肝”： excessive rage（anger） impairs the liver • “喜伤心”： excessive joy impairs the heart • “忧伤肺”： excessive anxiety impairs the lung • “思伤脾”： excessive contemplation impairs the spleen • “惊恐伤肾”：excessive fright impairs the kidney
• 怒则气上： rage causing qi to flow upwards • 喜则气缓： joy causing qi slack • 悲则气消：grief causing qi depression • 思则气结：contemplation causing qi stagnation • 恐则气下：fear causing qi collapse • 惊则气乱： terror causing qi disorder
