二、主要经历①兴办学校1948年，38岁的特蕾莎修女离开爱尔兰的罗瑞托修道院，来到印度加尔各答。
她做的第一件事，就是脱下了罗瑞托修女穿着的蓝色的道袍，改穿印度平民妇女常穿的白色棉纱丽。
特蕾莎修女是在车站后面的贫民窟展开工作的。
白天的经历让特蕾莎修女难以入睡，这些可怜的孩子们不但没有饭吃，没有衣穿，甚至连自己的名字也不会写，不会数最简单的数字，将来长大了怎么办？要从根本上解救这些孩子，莫过于让他们掌握知识！于是，在贫民区里办一所露天学校的想法，在特蕾莎修女的头脑中成熟了。
第二天，在一块大树下面的空地上，特蕾莎修女宣布那里就是教室，地面就是黑板，愿意念书的就坐下来。
经过她的耐心说服，巴布首先坐了下来，接着又坐下了四个孩子。
特蕾莎修女饶有趣味的讲课，渐渐地吸引了他们，其他的孩子也慢慢地走近了大树。
等到第二天特蕾莎修女再次来到大树下的时候，发现这里已经用破布、木板等物搭起了一座帐篷，坐在里面的小孩也比昨天多得多了。
就在这简陋的“教室”里，特蕾莎修女除了教孩子们一些简单的读读写写之外，还教他们卫生常识，比如刷牙、洗脸、洗澡等。
她还亲自带孩子们到井边，一个个教他们如何洗澡。
贫民窟的妇女们将这些看在眼里，记在心里，很快地，她们也仿效特蕾莎的做法，替自己的孩子洗澡了。
特蕾莎修女在贫民窟办露天学校的事儿很快就传开了，一个星期后，来听课的孩子达到了一百多人，后来又增加到了五百多人。

而作为人文性极强的大学英语课程在提高医学生的人文素养方面起到了重要的促进作用。
本文试图通过分析《21世纪大学英语》读写教程第二册的具体一篇文章在大学英语教师的精心设计下，探讨在大学英语教学中如何在课前、课中、课后培养和提高医学生的人文素养。

因医学是一门直接面对人、服务人的科学，是要比其他任何学科都更要强调人文关怀的，那么作为培养新世纪新型医学人才的高等医学院校就必须肩负起培养和提高医学生人文素质的重任。
而在大部分医学院校的课程里，大学英语不仅仅是医学生们的语言工具，更是为数不多的极具人文性的学科，是医学生提高自身素养，培养高尚医德情操，树立正确人生观和价值观的一门人文素养教育课程。
那么在高等医学院校里，大学英语教师应该如何基于大学英语课程来提高和培养医学生的人文素养和情怀呢？这个问题必须引起广大大学英语教师的高度重视。
因此，在大学英语的教学中，大学英语教师不应该仅仅满足于教授医学生们英语课本上的基本语法、句法知识点，而更应该注重于挖掘课本中所蕴含的深厚人文知识底蕴，以期在大学英语教学过程中培养和提高医学生们的人文素养，为培养高素质医学人才贡献自己的绵薄之力。
