山西吕梁市2017高考英语阅读理解一轮精练(四)阅读理解。

Human remains of ancient settlements will be reburied and lost to science under a law that threatens research into the history of humans in Britain, a group of leading archaeologists(考古学家) says. I a letter addressed to the justice secretary, Ken Clarke, 40 archaeologists write of their “deep and widespread concern” about the issue. It centers on the law introduced by the Ministry of Justice in 2008 which requires all human remains unearthed in England and Wales to be reburied within two years, regardless of their age. The decision means scientists have too little time to study bones and other human remains of national and cultural significance.“Your current requirement that all archaeologically unearthed human remains should be reburied, whether after a standard period of two years or further special extension, is contrary to basic principles of archaeological and scientific research and of museum practice,”they write. The law applies to any pieces of bone uncovered at around 400 dig sites, including the remains of 60 or so bodies found at Stonehenge in 2008 that date back to 3,000 BC. Archaeologists have been granted a temporary extension to give them more time, but eventually the bones will have to be returned to the ground. The arrangements may result in the waste of future discoveries at sites such as Happisburgh in Norfolk, where digging is continuing after the discovery of stone tools made by early humans 950,000 years ago. If human remains were found at Happisburgh, they would be the oldest in northern Europe and the first indication of what this species was. Under the current practice of the law those remains would have to be reburied and effectively destroyed. Before 2008, guidelines allowed for the proper preservation and study of bones of sufficient age and historical interest, while the Burial Act 1857 applied to more recent remains. The Ministry of Justice assured archaeologists two years ago that the law was temporary, but has so far failed to revise it.Mike Parker Pearson, an archaeologist at Sheffield University, said: “Archaeologists have been extremely patient because we wee led to believe the ministry was sorting out this problem, but we feel that we cannot wait any longer.”The ministry has no guidelines on where or how remains should be reburied, or on what records should be kept.1. According to the passage, scientists are unhappy with the law mainly because _________.A. it is only a temporary measure on the human remainsB. it is unreasonable and thus destructive to scientific researchC. it was introduced by the government without their knowledgeD. it is vague about where and how to rebury human remains2. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?A. Temporary extension of two years will guarantee scientists enough time.B. Human remains of the oldest species wee dug out at Happisburgh.C. Human remains will have to be reburied despite the extension of time.D. Scientists have been warned that the law can hardly be changed.3. What can be inferred about the British law governing human remains?A. The Ministry of Justice did not intend it to protect human remains.B. The Burial Act 1857 only applied to remains uncovered before 1857.C. The law on human remains hasn’t changed in recent decades.D. The Ministry of Justice has not done enough about the law.4. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?A. New discoveries should be reburied, the government demands.B. Research time should be extended, scientists require.C. Law on human remains needs thorough discussion, authorities say.D. Law could bury ancient secrets for ever, archaeologists warn.【参考答案】1—4、BCDD【浙江省2014模拟冲刺试题】CReading is a great way to improve your English. You'll learn new words, revise previously-taught structures and absorb thousands of useful expressions and phrases... without any effort. By reading, you are receiving valuable language input. And this is how you learn! Remember, language learning is a combination of input + practice. As you're reading, you're taking in language naturally, and you're seeing how it all fits together. This is crucial to your learning. The great thing about reading is that learning takes place subconsciously. There are no exercisesto do, no grammar rules to learn, no tasks to complete... it's all natural. The language flows in through your eyes, and gets registered(记录) in your brain. What could be easier? The key to effective reading is to read things that you want to read. There are millions of books, magazines and websites out there. You couldn't possibly read them all. So, the important thing is to find things that you like reading. Then, you'll be motivated to read. And then the reading won't be difficult. It'll be easy! And then you'll learn. It's simple.Remember: read what you want to read. What you like reading. What motivates and inspires you. But where can you start? Well, you could read a book that you've already read in your own language. Simply find a translated version of a book that you have read and enjoyed. This will make processing the content in the target language much easier as you’ll already know what the book is about! You could also read the news. This is great as you can read the news in your own language first, then in English. You'll see that it won't be too difficult as you'll be familiar with the topics and stories. Magazines are also great. Find one that covers a topic you're interested in: business, clothing, guns, horses, houses, housekeeping, stocks and shares, sports, computers, electronics, designing, cooking... you name it, they'll have it. If not, look for information on the internet. There are also websites for every topic under the sun! Why not join a forum? They're a great source of English input as the language is often written in a simple, spoken style. Go to Google Groups, which has discussion groups based on common interests. Just type in the topic that interests you and join the chat. Finally, how you read is also important. The best thing is to read without using a dictionary. Let the words flow over you. Just skip the parts you don't understand. If you make your reading feel too much like work, it'll stop being fun. Of course, you could make a note of any new words and phrases that you like or see repeated frequently, but try not to break your concentration too much. Also, set yourself mini-objectives. For example, if you're reading a novel, read 20 pages a day. Very soon, you'll have been exposed to thousands of useful phrases and words. Have fun reading! You'll learn so much!50. The underlined word “crucial” in the first paragraph is closest in meaning to_________________.A. easyB. importantC. difficultD. suitable51. The key to effective reading is _________________________________________.A. to read millions of booksB. not to learn grammar rulesC. to be motivated to readD. to read easy things52.You can start to read by ______________________________________________.A. reading a book that you've already read in EnglishB. reading the news in English firstC. going to Google Groups to practice spoken EnglishD. reading magazines containing topics you are interested in53. From the passage we can learn that __________________________________.A. when you read you needn’t look up every new word in the dictionaryB. the great thing about reading is that you can read without any effortC. to read is as much fun as to workD. you should make notes of every new word and phrase while reading54. The best title of the passage can be ____________________________________.A. How To Read English NovelsB. How To Learn English By ReadingC. How To Absorb Expressions And PhrasesD. How To Learn English Without Any Effort50. B 根据上下文可知在学习语言过程中自然而然地领会语言是至关重要的。

落堕市安心阳光实验学校2014高考英语阅读理解训练题(4)附答案I don't ever want to talk about being a woman scientist again. There was a time in my life when people asked constantly for stories about what it's like to work in a field dominated by men. I was never very good at telling those stories because truthfully I never found them interesting. What I do find interesting is the origin of the universe, the shape of space-time and the nature of black holes. At 19, when I began studying astrophysics(天体物理学), it did not bother me in the least to be the only woman in the classroom. But while earning my Ph.D. at MIT and then as 3 post-doctor doing space research, the issue started to bother me. My every achievement—jobs, research papers, awards—was viewed through the lens of gender (性别) politics. So were my failures. Sometimes, when I was pushed into an argument on left brain versus (相对于) right brain, or nature versus nurture (培育), I would instantly fight fiercely on my behalf and all womankind. Then one day a few years ago, out of my mouth came a sentence that would eventually become my reply to any and all provocations: I don't talk about that anymore. It took me 10 years to get back the confidence I had at 19 and to realize that I didn't want to deal with gender issues. Why should curing sexism be yet another terrible burden on every female scientist? After all, I don't study sociology or political theory.Today I research and teach at Barnard, a women's college in New York City. Recently, someone asked me how many of the 45 students in my class were women. You cannot imagine my satisfaction at being able to answer: 45. I know some of my students worry how they will manage their scientific research and a desire for children. And I don't dismiss those concerns. Still, I don't tell them "war" stories. Instead, I have given them this: the visual of their physics professor heavily pregnant doing physics experiments. And in turn they have given me the image of 45 women driven by a love of science. And that's a sight worth talking about.9. From Paragraph 2, we can infer that people would attribute(归因于) the author's failures to_____.A. the very fact that she is a womanB. her involvement in gender politicsC. her over-confidence as a female astrophysicistD. the burden she bears in a male-dominated society10. What did the author constantly fight against while doing her Ph.D. and post-doctoral research?A. Lack of confidence in succeeding in space science.B. Unfair accusations from both inside and outside her circle.C. People's stereotyped attitude towards female scientists.D. Widespread misconceptions about nature and nurture11. Why does the author feel great satisfaction when talking about herclass?A. Female students no longer have to worry about gender issues.B. Her students' performance has brought back her confidence.C. Her female students can do just as well as male students.D. More female students are pursuing science than before.12. What does the image the author presents to her students suggest?A. Women students needn't have the concerns of her generation.B. Women have more barriers on their way to academic success.C. Women can balance a career in science and having a family.D. Women now have fewer discrimination problems about science career.(C篇)ACDC********************************************************结束社会生活类---[2012·上海卷](C)Researchers in the psychology department at the University ofCalifornia at Los Angeles (UCLA) have discovered a major difference inthe way men and women respond to stress. This difference may explain whymen are more likely to suffer from stressrelated disorders.Until now, psychological research has maintained that both menand women have the same “fightorflight” reaction to stress. In other words, individuals either react with aggressive behavior, such as verbal or physical conflict (“fight”), or they react by withdrawing from the stressful situation (“flight”). However, the UCLA research team found that men and women have quite different biological and behavioral responses to stress. While men often react to stress in thefightorflight response, women often have another kind of reaction which could be called “tend and befriend.” That is, they often react to stressful conditions by protecting and nurturing their young (“tend”), and by looking for social contact and support from others—especially other females (“befriend”).Scientists have long known that in the fightorflight reaction to stress, an important role is played by certain hormones(激素) released by the body. The UCLA research team suggests that the female tendorbefriend response is also based on a hormone. This hormone, called oxytocin, has been studied in the context of childbirth, but now it is being studied for its role in the response of both men and women to stress. The principal investigator, Dr. Shelley E. Taylor, explained that “animals and people with high levels of oxytocin are calmer, more relaxed, more social, and less anxious.” While men also secrete (分泌) oxytocin, its effects are reduced by male hormones. In terms of everyday behavior, the UCLA study found that women are far more likely than men to seek social contact when they are feeling stressed. They may phone relatives or friends, or ask directions if they are lost. The study also showed how fathers and mothers responded differently when they came home to their family after a stressful day at work. The typical father wanted to be left alone to enjoy some peace and quiet. For a typical mother, coping with a bad day at work meant focusing her attention on her children and their needs. The differences in responding to stress may explain the fact that women have lower frequency of stressrelated disorders such as high blood pressure or aggressive behavior. The tendandbefriend regulatory (调节的) system may protect women against stress, and this may explain why women on average live longer than men.72. The UCLA study shows that in response to stress, men are more likely than women to ________.A. turn to friends for helpB. solve a conflict calmlyC. find an escape from realityD. seek comfort from children73. Which of the following is true about oxytocin according to the passage?A. Men have the same level of oxytocin as women do.B. Oxytocin used to be studied in both men and women.C. Both animals and people have high levels of oxytocin.D. Oxytocin has more of an effect on women than on men.74. What can be learned from the passage?A. Male hormones help build up the body's resistance to stress.B. In a family a mother cares more about children than a father does.C. Biological differences lead to different behavioral responses to stress.D. The UCLA study was designed to confirm previous research findings.75. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?A. How men and women get over stressB. How men and women suffer from stressC. How researchers overcome stress problemsD. 四川省大邑县高考英语阅读理解一轮统练(4)及答案

四川省大邑县2015高考英语阅读理解一轮统练(4)及答案阅读理解Every year in America, high-school students who want to go on to college take a national examination called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, or SAT in a shortened way. Their score is an important factor in determining which colleges will admit them or whether any will be admitted at all. The Scholastic Aptitude Test muasures one’s mathematical ability and use of the English language. Traditionally, the English portion involved grammatical questions and paragraphs that test reading comprehension. But the SAT folks have added a single question , to be answered in an essay, hand-written on the spot. That’s an interesting way to test writing ability, but content aside, have you ever seen young people’s handwriting lately? Or anyone’s for that matter, in this age of computer keyboards? Students write numbers and sign their names on bank checks. They scribble class notes in what can generously be described as the written word. And they hand-write, or more often print, a word or two of identification on luggage and lunch bags. Otherwise, penmanship(书法)-once taught so morally and carefully by second-grade teachers, has gone the way of the dodo bird which has died out.Yet today’s kids are asked to write, thoughtfully an d legibly, for several minutes on this SAT Test. Good luck to the test scorers who must work out difficultly the scrawl of young people who’ve been typing on computers since the age of three! Teachers insist that good handwriting can not only help one’s sc ore on the SAT, but also, later on in life, impress potential employers and earn bigger tax refunds because the tax inspectors can actually r ead the computations. And don’t forget, we all have to resort to handwriting from rime to time, as computers go down when the power goes out.1. The subjects to be tested in the SAT include .A. math,English, reading and handwritingB. math, grammar, reading and writingC. math, foreign language and writingD. math,English and handwriting答案解析:答案为B。

The Internet plays a big part in human life. We use it for work and entertainment. We can find new recipes on the Internet or advice on staying healthy. We can even use it to learn a new language. We use the Internet to connect with family and friends and stay in touch with issues we care about. The list goes on and on.As far as the Internet being a part of our lives—well, that train has left the station. That expression means there is no going back. If you prefer boating, you can say that ship has sailed. So, there may be no going back to an Internet-free life. But can using the Internet too much be bad for our health? It might be, say researchers.Study results show that teens who spend at least 14 hours a week online were more likely to have high blood pressure.High blood pressure makes your heart and blood vessels work too hard. Over time, this extra strain increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke.High blood pressure can also cause heart and kidney disease. It is also closely linked to some forms of dementia, a brain disease. Dementia is marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and a reduced ability to reason.Let’s introduce something about the study of it.The Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan did the study. It involved 335 young people, from 14 to 17 years old. One hundred thirty-four of the teens were described as “heavy Internet users”. Researchers found that out of these 134 teens, 26 had high blood pressure. The researchers say the study is the first to connect heavy web use and high blood pressure. Other research has connected that heavy Internet use with health problems including anxiety, depression and obesity. The lead researcher of the study is Andrea Cassidy-Bushrow. In a statement she said, “Using the Internet is part of our daily life but it shouldn’t consume us. ”For the purpose of the study, she explains, teens considered heavy Internet users were online on “average 25 hours a week. ”Ms Cassidy-Bushrow adds that it is important for teens to take “regular breaks from their computers or smartphones” and to do some “kind of physical activity. ”She also suggests that parents limit their children’s use of the Internet to two hours a day, five days a week.【文章大意】互联网如此有用并且融入我们的生活, 但过度使用它, 会导致多种健康问题。

In the more and more competitive service industry, it is no longer enough to promise customer satisfaction. Today, customer “delight” is what companies are trying to achieve in or order to keep and increase market share. It is accepted in the marketing industry, and confirmed by a number of researches, that customers receiving good service will promote business by telling up to 12 other people: those treated badly will tell their tales of woe to up to 20 people, 80 percent of people who feel their complaints are handled fairly will stay loyalNew lunges for customer care have come when people can obtain goods and services through telephone call centers and the Internet. For example , many companies now have to invest()a lot of money in information technology and staff training in order to cope with the “phone rage”—caused by delays in answering calls ,being cut off inmid-conversation or left waiting for long periods.“Many people do not like talking to machines,” says Dr . Storey Senior Lecturer in Marketing at City University Business School. “Banks, for example, encourage staff at call centers to use customer data to establish instant and good relationship with them .The aim is to make the customer feel they know you and that you can trust— the sort of comfortable feelings people have during face-to-face chats with their local branch manager.”Recommended ways of creating customer delight include:under-promising and over-delivering (saying that a repair will be calmed out within five hours ,but getting it done within two );replacing a faulty product immediately : throwing in a gift voucher(购物礼卷)as an unexpected “thank you” to rental customers ;and always returning calls ,even when they are complaints.Aiming for customer delight is all very well , but if services do not reach the high level promised , disappointment or worse will be the result . This can be eased by offering an apology and an explanation of why the service did not meet usual standards with empathy (for example,”I know how you must feel”), and possible solutions (replacement , compensation or whatever fames suggests best meets the case).Airlines face some of the toughest challenges over customer care. Fierce competition has convinced them that delighting passengers is an important marketing tool, while there is great potential for customer anger over delays caused by weather, unclaimed luggage and technical problems. For British Airways staff, a winning telephone style is considered vital in handling the large volume of calls about bookings and flighttimes. They are trained to answer quickly, with their name, job title and a “we are here to help” attitude. The company has invested heavily in information technology to make sure that information is available instantly on screen.British Airways also says its customer care policies are applied within the company and staff are taught to regard each other as customers requiring the highest standards of service.Customer care is obviously here to stay and it would be a foolish company that used slogans such as "we do as we please”. On the other hand, the more customers are promised, the greater the risk of disappointment.( ) 1. ⅠⅡⅢ
2.How did tiger sharks help the scientific research? A.By tracking signals scientists sent. B.By bringing back cameras with videos. C.By carrying the recording equipment around. D.By spending a lot of time in seagrass meadows.
As a shelter for many sea creatures, seagrass is a flowering plant that normally grows in shallow waters near coasts. They grow in thick fields, known as seagrass meadows(海草草场),which help clean the ocean water.More importantly, they are called “ocean lung”.They help in the fight against the climate crisis. That’s because they store huge amounts of carbon—the majoing.Damaging these seagrass meadows can release this pollutant again, making things worse.

Others, like snowshoe hares, take center stage in predators' (捕食者的) view when they lack snow for disguising their white fur, which is not a good thing for them, of course.Black bears, on the other hand, have been keeping busy gathering nuts and apples, when they would normally have settled into their winter homes by now. Vermont and Massachusetts officials have asked residents to wait till snowfalls to take out their bird feeders for the sake of safety, the article said.“We suggest waiting for six or more inches of snow that lasts before taking out your bird feeders, especially if you have been visited in the past by bears or if there are sightings of bears in your neighborhood,〞 Forrest Hammond, Vermont Fish and Wildlife's bear biologist, said in the article. “Due to lack of snow and frozen ground, birds are able to seek in fields and forests for their natural foods.〞Snow amounts can also determine how comfortable bears are and how quickly they consume their accumulated fat during hibernation (冬眠), noted Hammond in the article. This is because snow covers and traps them in their winter homes, and also hides them from predators.5.What may upset snowshoe hares because of El Nino?A.Their being caught more easily. 阅读理解专练(四)(限时30分钟)AFrom the cold Arctic to the African plains, every society seems to have some form of music as part of their culture. Music is so common and widespread that most people don’t even question it anymore. But until recently, there were researchers who doubted it: How could we know that music was really a part of all known societies? Now, Harvard researchers, Samuer Mehr and Manvir Singh, have found further evidence to support the argument. They gathered music from different countries, media and time periods, and collected descriptions of many different pieces of music. Rather than focusing on music first and then looking at where it could be found, they started by studying a record of detailed descriptions of more than three hundred known global societies, and found that all of them have music as part of their culture. To see if people could recognize the functions of songs from around the world, the researchers also created a listening experiment in which people tried to guess the behavioral context of a song. This went surprisingly well. Particularly music that was intended for dancing or tocalm a baby was easy to recognize as either dance music or lullabies. Love songs were a bit more difficult to qualify, because they tend to be very diverse even within cultures. This systematic study of connections sounds like the way that researchers in other fields would study biological patterns. “There’s a field known as cultural phylogenetics, ” says Singh. Whereas biological characteristics are only received from parent to child, cultural characteristics (like music) are also shared between people of the same generation. That makes it much more difficult to figure out where the characteristic has come from.“Finally, ” Singh says, “We s till don’t know why music developed gradually. Our study shows that humans everywhere share cognitive mechanisms (认知机制) that make certain sounds seem appropriate in particular contexts. ”【文章大意】本文是一篇议论文, 介绍世界各地的音乐拥有的共同特点, 同时成为各种文化不可或缺的组成部分。

Blind imitation (模仿)is self-destruction. To those who do not recognize their unique worth . Imitation appears attractive: to those who know their strengt h. Imitation is unacceptable. In the early stages of skill or character development, imitation is helpful. When I first learned to cook, I used recipes (菜谱) and turned out some tasty dishes. If, as a child, you observed people whose lives were bad, you may have accepted their fear and pain as normal and gone on to follow what they did. If you do not make strong choices for yourself, you will get the results o f the weak choices of others. In the field of entertainment, our culture glorifies celebrities. Those stars look great on screen. But when they step off scree n, their personal lives may be disastrous. If you are going to f ollow someone, focus on their talent, not their bad character o r unacceptable behaviors.Blessed is the person willing to act on their sudden desire to c reate something unique. Think of the movies, books, teachers , and friends that have affected you most deeply. They touche d you because their creations were motivated by inspiration, n ot desperation. The world is changed not by those who do wh at has been done before them, but by those who do what has been done inside them. Creative people have an endless reso urce of ideas. The problem a creator faces is not running out of material; it is what to do with the material knocking at the d oor of imagination.Syudy your role models, accept the gifts they have given, and leave behind what does not server. 2016高考英语阅读理解一轮精炼(4)及解析AImproving your vocabulary can be done at any age and any level of education. Even college students can benefit from an enlarged vocabulary, which will enhance spoken and written communication as well as providing a deeper grasp of any language. Often people are encouraged to improve their vocabulary by a major test, but improving your vocabulary can be done for fun as well. Reading more, playing word games and puzzles, and looking up words in the dictionary are all good ways to learn new words. One of the best ways to improve your vocabulary is to read more.Reading is directly linked with a larger vocabulary, especially if you seek out books in unfamiliar styles or about unfamiliar topics. Nonfiction in a wide variety of f ields can teach you new words and general knowledge, but reading fiction is also highly beneficial. As you read, make a note of unfamiliar words, look them up, and write down the definition.Playing word games is a fun way to learn new words. Games like Scrabble and Boggle will encourage your brain to play with words and letters, as well as learning new ones. If you play with an open dictionary, you can encourage people to try out words they might otherwise be afraid of using. Most word games are interactive, so you enjoy company while you expand your vocabulary.Another way of improving your vocabulary is to do word puzzles. Most newspapers include crosswords, simple cryptology puzzles, and jumbles that get progressively harder throughout the week.Try to commit to completing all of the word puzzles every day, or at least attempt to finish them. Word puzzles can also be done in groups, especially if you enjoy competition. You can purchase books of word puzzles of varying difficulty for a different challenge.A simple way to improve your vocabulary is to use the dictionary.Create flashcards of unfamiliar words and practice them in the train, on the bus, or when you wake up in the morning. Try to practice words in a variety of environments so that you really learn them, and make sure to use the words in daily sentences as well so that you can grow accustomed to using them correctly. B[2014·河南省开封市高三模拟考试]As more and more books become movie adaptations, I can't help but think how this will affect English classes. Thinking back to my years in middle school and high school, I was required to read a number of classics. Today, a majority of those books are now also movies: Life of Pi, The Great Gatsby, Much Ado About Nothing and AnnaKarenina, to name a few.Even contem porary books such as The Hunger Games and Harry Potter are gracing the big screen. In discussions with friends, I will often hear them say they are not going to read the book because the movie adapted from it will be out soon, w hich made me wonder what effect, if any, movie adaptations will have on modernday students. Will the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) encourage them to read the books more carefully or to use movies to supplement their understanding of the text? The CCSS requires students to provide textbased evidence when reading and discussing a book. By focusing on such e vidence, teachers can pull specific details from a book that may have not made the final cut when the book was adapted for the big screen. For instance, after reading and watching The Hunger Games, there were a number of details from the book that were missing from the film. A student who failed to read The Hunger Games would not quite understand Rue's impact on the games in the same way as someone who had read the book and remembered all the detail s that went into her death.I am not saying the CCSS will stop students from cutting corners, but I believe if teachers use the support the CCSS provides, it can be a great roadway to ensure all students are digging deep into texts and not just hitting the play button.5.In the past, the author was encouraged________.A.to read textbooks in the classB.to read movie adaptationsC.to read many classicsD.to see movies in the cinema6.What effect does the movie have on modernday students according to the passage?A. Encouraging students to read more books.B. Using the movie to help understand the text.C. Making some of students read too little.D. Helping students to save a lot of time.7. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?A.Teachers can teach students better by seeing films.B.Students are encouraged to see The Hunger Games.C.Rue's impact on the games is presented in the movie.D.Those who only see movies might not understand some details.8.The passage tells us that the author ________.A.hopes students to see the movies adapted from booksB.thinks the CCSS should prevent students from watching moviesC.urges stud ents to read books rather than see the filmsD.tries to ban the CCSS from giving students many choices[文章大意] 随着越来越多的名著改编成电影,有些青少年很少再去阅读原著,这对他们的阅读和学习产生了一定影响。
