These are obtained byprocuring different "dash" numbers of the basic Model number 44315. Each of t hese variations corresponds to a different "option" letter on Model 61428,64348, or 64200 Nozzles when procured as a part of the nozzle. Refer t o paragraph 3.0 for a detailed explanatio n of the various options.2.0EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION Model 44315 Swivel Quick Disconnect is designed to be used as a part of Model 61428, 64200 or 64348 Nozzles to provide connection to various sizes and types of hose fittings and to providea quick means of disconnecting the nozzle from the hose for inspection of the strainer utilized therein. The outlet adapter that mates the nozzle is also the male half of the swivel.3.0TABLE OF OPTIONSThe Unit is available with various inlet thread sizes and types as shown below. The corresponding options to the 61428, 64200 or 64348 Nozzles are also shown.Model Number DescriptionNozzle Option44315-1 2 1/2" NPT Inlet Thd 6H 44315-2 2 1/2" BSPP Inlet Thd 6K 44315-33" NPT Inlet Thd 6L 44315-43" BSPP Inlet Thd 6M 44315-52" BSPP Inlet Thd 6N 44315-62" NPT Inlet Thd 6P 44373-6060-mesh Screen B 44373-100100-mesh ScreenC4.0SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSThe Swivel Disconnect described herein has two separate safety systems built into it to assure that the unit can not be inadvertently disassembled from the hose. The unit is held together with a bayonet type joint requiring a rotation motion to disconnect one part from the other. This joint is locked by a spring loaded ring that prevents the rotation unless the ring is pulled away from the joint. In addition to the locking ring, there are two screws that are also designed to prevent rotation of the bayonet feature unless loosened. These screws are normally wire locked.SM44315February 1, 1998- 4 -NOTE:Do not operate the nozzle with this Swivel Disconnect connected unless theRetainer(10) is in place and the Screws (4) are fully installed and wire locked.5.0DISASSEMBLY5.1Remove the n ozzle/s wivel q uickd isconnect from the end of the hose.S e p a r a t e t h e s w i v e l q u i c kd isconnect from the nozzle. Refer toSM61428 service manual, paragraph6.2 for instructions on this operation.5.2Remove Lockwire (3) from Screws(4). Take note of the method oflockwiring for duplication uponreassembly.5.3Remove Screws (4) and set aside.Note: Older units will have a Washer(5A) under the head of each Screw(4). Newer units will have a bump onthe outer rim of the Housing (6), nothave the Washer (5A) and will havean anti-rotation Pin (5) to facilitateinstallation of the unit. Do notremove the Pin (5) unless it isdamaged and replacement is needed.5.4Holding the Unit with the threadedend in the right hand and the adapterend in the left, pull the black plasticRetainer (10) away from the Housing(6). Rotate the Housing in eitherdirection and pull it away from theAdapter (9) to disassemble.5.5Remove the Quad Ring (7) from theHousing (6). (Older units may have atwo piece seal consisting of a plasticSeal and a Spring that is mountedinside the Seal cavity. These twoparts may be replaced with the QuadRing (7).) Do not remove the WaveWasher (8) unless it is to be replaced. This washer is used to assure electricalcontinuity between the Housing (6) andAdapter (9). If it is necessary to removethe Washer (8) it can only beaccomplished by bending it out of shape. The Washer (8) is intended to be"wavey" and the precision of the wavesare of no consequence as long as thewaves are sufficient to make contactbetween the male and female halves ofthe Swivel.5.6If a Screen (1) is present it may beremoved for replacement or cleaning byremoving its Retainer (2) first.5.7The removal of the Curved Washer (11),Shroud (12), noting the direction inwhich it is installed for use inreassembly, Ring (13), and Retainer (10)should only be done if any of them areto be replaced. The Shroud (12) iscompressed against the Curved Washer(11) to allow removal of the Ring (13).Once the Ring is removed the other partsmay be removed.5.8The Teflon Seal (15) and O-ring (14)should only be removed if the Seal (15)is damaged. The O-ring is a flurosiliconecompound and is not affected by age. Toremove it use an "o-ring pick" beingcareful not to damage the Adapter (9).Once removed, the Seal (15) must bereplaced as well as the O-ring (14).SM44315February 1, 1998- 5 -6.0INSPECTIONIt is recommended that the Quad Ring (7)(or the older Seal and Spring) be replaced upon each overhaul of the Unit. O-ring (14) should be replaced only if damaged or the Seal (15) is to be replaced.Inspect all metal parts for dings, gouges, abrasions, etc. Use 320 grit paper to smooth and remove sharp edges. Replace any part with damage exceeding 15% of local wall thickness. Use alodine 1200 to touch up bared aluminum. Carefully check the edges of the ball race in the Adapter (9) for excessive wear or burrs. This part is dry film lubricated. If the ball groove is shiny the part should be replaced or the dry film lubricant be reapplied. An easily used aerosol can of Perma-S ilk G dry film lubricant can be obtained from 3M Corporation, 6940 Farmdale Ave., North Hollywood, CA 91605. Any burrs should be removed with abrasive. Excessive burring may result in hanging up of the part within the Nozzle Body making it impossible to disassemble in the future. Check the Retainer (10) for cracks. Replace if necessary.7.0REASSEMBLY7.1Reassemble in reverse order of disassembly (Refer to Figure 1),observing the following:7.1.1Make certain all components are clean and free from oil, grease, or any other corrosion resistant compound on all interior or exterior surfaces. Wash all parts with cleaning solvent, Federal Specification P-D-680, and dry thoroughly with a clean, lint-free cloth or compressed air.WARNING:Use cleaning solvent in a well-ventilated area. Avoid breathing of fumes and excessive solvent contact with skin. Keep away from openflame NOTE: A light coat of petrolatum,Federal Specification VV-P-236 or equivalent commercial quality, can beapplied to all o-rings and screws for ease of installation.7.1.2Install Quad Ring (7) into Housing (6).7.1.3If Wave Washer (8) is being installed it will be necessary to bend it somewhat to properly install it. The shape of the "waves" are not critical and the part will be flattened out somewhat upon reassembly to the Adapter (9).7.1.4When installing Shroud (12) be sure that it is oriented such that it will cover up and retain the Ring (13) upon final assembly.7.1.5Upon reassembly of the Screws (4),Lockwire (3) should be installed to prevent loosening of the Screws (4). On newer units the rotation of the Housing (6) will be stopped at the correct location by the Pin (5).8.0TEST8.1The Unit shall be tested as a part of a completed nozzle as instructed in SM61428 or SM54348.8.2Test conditions8.2.1Test media shall be Calibration Test Fluid per MIL-C-7024, Stoddard Solvent (Federal Specification P-D-680), JP-4 per MIL-J-5624D at 75o + 15o F, Jet A or equivalent.SM44315February 1, 1998 8.3Functional TestAs mentioned above the Unitshould be tested in accordancewith the appropriate paragraphsof SM61428 or SM64348.9.0ILLUSTRATED PARTS CATALOGTable 1.0 tabulates the parts and sub-assemblies comprising the 44315-* Swivel QuickDisconnect Assembly and 44373-60 or -100 Screen Assemblies.

ML4435 Sensorless BLDC Motor ControllerThe ML4435 provides all the circuitry for sensorlessspeed control of 3 phase Brushless DC Motors. Controller functions include start-up circuitry, Back EMF commuta-tion control, Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) speed con-trol, pulse-by-pulse current limiting, motor coasting, and under-voltage protection.Motor starting is accomplished by commutating the motor at a low frequency to produce low speed motion. The low speed motion is used to generate a Back EMF signal. A back EMF sampling circuit locks on to the motors posi-tion and controls commutation timing by forming a phase locked loop (PLL). The commutation control circuitry also outputs a speed feedback signal used in the speed control loop. The speed control loop consists of an error amplifi er and PWM comparator that produces a PWM duty cycle for speed regulation. Motor current is limited by a pulse-by-pulse PWM shutdown comparator that is tripped by the voltage across an external current sense resistor. Com-mutation control, PWM speed control, and current limit-ing are combined to produce the output driver signals. Six output drivers are used to provide gating signals to an external 3 phase bridge power stage sized for the Brush-less DC (BLDC) motor voltage and current requirements. Additional functions include a motor coast function and an under voltage lock out circuit to shut down the output drivers in the event of a low voltage condition on the VCC to the ML4435.May, 2000PRELIMINARY DATASHEET n Proprietary back-EMF sensing commutation technique for motor communication without hall effect sensors n PWM pulse-by-pulse current limiting to protect motor and FET driversn Stand-alone operation ; motor starts and stops with power applied to the I C *n Soft-start function limits start-up currentn PWM speed control for effi ciency and minimum FET sizingn O nboard under voltage lock out and power fail detect n Tach output senses commutation of the motorPRELIMINARY* Some Extern a l Components Required.PRELIMINARY DATASHEET May, 20002Products described herein may be covered by one or more of the following U .S . patents : 4,897,611; 4,964,026; 5,027,116; 5,281,862; 5,283,483; 5,418,502; 5,508,570; 5,510,727; 5,523,940; 5,546,017; 5,559,470; 5,565,761; 5,592,128; 5,594,376; 5,652,479; 5,661,427; 5,663,874; 5,672,959; 5,689,167; 5,714,897; 5,717,798; 5,742,151; 5,747,977; 5,754,012; 5,757,174; 5,767,653; 5,777,514; 5,793,168; 5,798,635; 5,804,950; 5,808,455; 5,811,999; 5,818,207; 5,818,669; 5,825,165; 5,825,223; 5,838,723; 5.844,378; 5,844,941. Electronic com-mutation requires the switching on and off of the power switches of a 3 phase half bridge. For torque production to be achieved in one direction the commutation is dic-tated by the rotor’s position. Electronic commutation in the ML4435 is achieved by turning on and off, in theproper sequence, one L output from one phase and one H output from another phase. T here are si x combinations of L and H outputs (si x switching states ) that constitute a full commutation cycle as illustrated in T able 1 labeled state A through F. T his switching sequence is programmed into the commutation state machine as illustrated in Figure 6. C loc k ing of the commutation state machine is provided by the output of a VCO .VOLTAGE CONTROLLED OSCILLATORT he VCO outputs a TT L compatible cloc k on the T AC H(pin 2) proportional to the input voltage to the voltage controlled oscillator SP EE D F B (pin 18). T he proportion of frequency to voltage or VCO constant K v is set by a resistor to ground on R VCO (pin 4) and capacitor to ground on CVCO (pin 20) as shown in Figure 7. R VCO sets up a current proportional to the VCO input voltage SP EE D F B minus 0.7V . T his current is used to charge and discharge CVCO between the threshold voltages of 2V and 3.75V as shown in Figure 7. R VCO has a lower voltage limit of 0.2V . T he resulting triangle wave of CVCO corresponds to the cloc k on the T AC H pin, this is also illustrated in Figure 7. K v should be set so that the VCO output frequency corresponds to the ma x imum commutation frequency FM A X and thus the ma x imum motor speed when the VCO input is equal to or slightly less than 6V . CVCO and R VCO can be selected by fi rst calculating FM A X and then using the selection graph in Figure 8. FM A X is calculated as follows :FM A X = 0.05 x RP MM A X x NW here : RP MM A X = T he ma x imum speed of operation (RP M ). The TACH out also indicates a low motor speed by staying TTL high when the motor is at its minimum speed (SPEED FB below 0.97V).BACK EMF SAMPLERThe input to the VC O (pin 18) SPEED FB is controlled by the Bac k E M F Sampler. The bac k E M F sense pins FB A , FB B , and FB C inputs to the bac k E M F sampler require a signal from the motor phase leads that is below theVCC of the M L 4435. The phase sense input impedance is 8.7k Ω. I f the motor v oltage is greater than the VCC of the M L 4435 then this requires a series resistor R FB from the motor phase lead shown in Figure 8. R FB can be selected by using the graph in Figure 9 or using the following equation :V N E U T R AL = (FB A + FB B + FB C)/3This allows the M L 4435 to compare the bac k E M F signal to the motors neutral point without the need for bringing out an e x tra wire on a WY E wound motor. For DELTA wound motors there isn ’t a physical neutral to bring out so this reference point must be calculated anyway. The bac k E M F sampler ta k es the motor phase that is not dri v en (i.e. if LA and HB are on then phase A is dri v en low and phase B is dri v en high then phase C is sampled). The sampled phase pro v ides a bac k E M F signal that is compared against the neutral of the motor. The sampler is controlled by the commutation state machine. The sampled bac k E M F is compared to the neutral through an error ampli fi er. The output of the error ampli fi er outputs a charging or discharging current to SPEED FB (pin 18) which pro v ides the v oltage to the VC O .BACK EMF SE N S ING P H ASE L O CKE D L OO P C O MM UT A TION C ONT R O LThe three bloc k s : The commutation state machine , the VC O, and the bac k E M F sampler form a phase loc k ed loop that loc k s the commutation cloc k onto the bac k E M F signal. The motor needs to be rotating for the Back EMF sampler to lock onto the rotor position and commutate the motor. The ML4435 uses a minimum VCO frequency to begin commutating the motor. This low frequency commutation is set by the 0.2V clamp on RVCO, this provides a commutation frequency at 1/30th of the maximum frequency. RU N MO DEA fter the Back EMF sensing P LL has locked on to themotor ’s position, the motor is running in closed loop con -trol. A t this point, the speed control loop should force the motor speed to the speed that corresponds to the SP EE D S ET voltage.P W M SP EED C O N TRO LS peed control is accomplished by setting a speed com -mand at SP EE D S ET (pin 5) with an input voltage from 0.2 to 6V. The accuracy of the speed command is determined by the external components RVCO and CVCO. There are a number of methods to control the speed command on the ML4435. One method is to use a potentiometer from RT to ground with the wiper going to SP EE D S ET. I f SP EE D S ET is controlled from a microcontroller, a DA C that uses RT as its input reference can be used. The RT voltage must be buffered connecting it to external circuits. The speed command is compared with the sensed speed from SP EE D FB minus 0.7V (pin 18) through a transconductance error amplifi er. The output of the speed error amplifi er is SP EE D COM P (pin 3). SP EE D COM P is clamped between 8.2V and 2.2V. A signal of 8.2V corresponds to full P WM duty cycle and 2.2V corresponds to 0% duty cycle. PWM Oscillator Circuit The voltage on SP EE D COM P (pin 3) is compared with a triangle wave oscillator to create a P WM duty cycle. The P WM oscillator creates a triangle wave function from 3V to 7V as shown in Figure 11. The frequency of the triangle wave oscillator is set by a resistor to ground on RT (pin 6). RT can be selected from the graph in Figure 12.The P WM duty cycle from the speed control loop is gated the pulse -by -pulse current limit that controls the L A , LB, and LC output drivers.Figure 12.
