Active reading (1)
1 Work in pairs. Read the short biography about Sylvia Plath and find out: • • • who she was She was an American poet and a writer of novels, short stories and essays. when she lived She lived between 1932 and 1963. what kind of person she might have been She seemed to have been depressed and unhappy.
Unit 2 Childhood memories
Teaching suggestions and answer keys
Starting point
Work in pairs. Look at the photo scrapbook of childhood memories. Talk about what kind of childhood memories they show. Do any photos remind you of anything from your childhood? (from the left-hand top) • This shows a boy making bubbles using a stick attached with a loop of flexible wire (in a round shape or curve) and a bucket of soapy water. I used to do this with a small piece of circular wire and it was fun to see how many bubbles you could make and try to make the biggest bubble ever. • Here are two children feeding a sheep. I remember feeding dogs and chickens when I was about four, and there are photos of me playing with a cat at that age. • This is a more formal photo. It reminds me of the occasion when I joined the Young Pioneers at seven years old. The photographer kept trying to make me smile, but I was shy so I didn’t want to. • A child writing … yes, this is a familiar memory for me! Writing seemed to be so difficult then, and it was always a struggle to finish the page. Funnily enough, reading seemed to be easy, though. • The girl here seems to be about to wash the dog. This isn’t something I used to do. I simply don’t recall ever washing an animal, but we had dogs at home when I was small.

1My Super Cool English Class PlanHey there, friends! I'm so excited to share with you my awesome plan for our English class this year. We're gonna be using this really neat textbook called "Grade 11 Elective Course 3" from Beijing Normal University Press. I know, I know, it sounds super serious and grown-up, but trust me, it's gonna be a total blast!First things first, let's talk about the fun stuff. We're gonna learn all sorts of cool words and phrases that'll make us sound like total rock stars. Like, instead of saying "that's amazing," we can say "that's wicked!" Or instead of "I'm tired," we can say "I'm knackered!" Isn't that awesome? We'll be the coolest kids in school with our fancy new English vocab. But that's not all! We're also gonna learn about different cultures from around the world. We'll get to read stories and watch videos about people from all kinds of fascinating places. And the best part? We'll get to share our own cultures andtraditions with the class too! It'll be like a big, global party every single day. Now, I know what you're thinking: "But Timmy, won't there be a lot of boring grammar and stuff too?" Well, fear not, my friends! We're gonna make grammar fun by turning it into games and competitions. Who can spot the most adjectives in a sentence? Who can create the craziest compound-complex sentence? It'll be like a grammar Olympics, and we'll all be winners (because we'll be learning, duh!).And let's not forget about writing. We'll get to flex our creative muscles by writing stories, poems, and even scripts for our very own plays! Imagine seeing your words come to life on stage, performed by your classmates. How cool is that? But wait, there's more! We'll also be learning about all sorts of interesting topics like science, technology, and even a bit of philosophy. We'll get to debate big questions and share our thoughts and ideas with each other. Who knows, maybe one of us will come up with the next groundbreaking theory that changes the world! And the best part of all? We'll get to do all of this together, as a class. We'll support each other, encourage each other, andmaybe even teach each other a thing or two along the way. Because that's what true friends do, right? So, what do you say, gang? Are you ready to embark on this epic English adventure with me? Let's dive into this "Grade 11 Elective Course 3" textbook and make some unforgettable memories together. Who's with me? Let's do this!篇2My English Class Adventures: Elective Module 3Hi there! I'm Xiaoming, a high school student who loves learning English. Our class just started a new module in our English textbook, and I'm super excited to share my journey with you. This time, we're diving into Elective Module 3, and let me tell you, it's shaping up to be a thrilling adventure!First up, we're going to explore the wonderful world of science and technology. Can you imagine how mind-blowing it will be to learn all those fancy words and complex concepts in English? I can already picture myself impressing my friends with my newfound scientific vocabulary. "Hey, did you know that the mitochondria are the powerhouses of the cell?" Boom! Instant street cred. But that's not all! We'll also be discussing environmental issues and sustainable living. Finally, a chance to put myeco-warrior skills to the test. I'll be able to explain the importance of reducing our carbon footprint and recycling like a pro. Who knows, maybe I'll inspire my classmates to start their own green initiatives? A school-wide recycling program, perhaps? The possibilities are endless!Next on our agenda is the fascinating realm of social media and its impact on our lives. As a true digital native, I can't wait to dissect the pros and cons of this ever-evolving phenomenon. We'll explore topics like online privacy, cyberbullying, and the art of maintaining a positive digital footprint. I might even share some tips on how to take the perfect selfie – you know, for educational purposes. But wait, there's more! We'll also delve into the world of literature and art. Prepare yourselves for riveting discussions on poetry, novels, and masterpieces from around the globe. Who knows, maybe we'll uncover the next Shakespeare among our ranks? Or perhaps someone will unveil their hidden talent for interpretive dance. Anything is possible in our English class! And let's not forget about the fun part – roleplays and group activities! I can already envision myself stepping into the shoesof a famous scientist, delivering a groundbreaking speech about my latest invention. Or maybe I'll channel my inner environmental activist, rallying my classmates to join the fight against climate change. The stage is ours, and the possibilities are limitless! So, there you have it, folks – a sneak peek into the exciting world of Elective Module 3. Buckle up, because this ride is going to be anything but ordinary. Who knows, by the end of this module, we might just be the next generation of scientists, environmentalists, social media gurus, or literary masterminds –all thanks to the power of English! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to prepare for our next class.I heard we're going to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on society. Can't wait to see what mind-bending concepts await us!篇3My English Class This YearHi everyone! I'm so excited to tell you all about my English class this year. It's called Compulsory Course 3 and it's for us11th graders at Beijing Normal University High School. I just hadmy first class and I can already tell it's going to be really fun and interesting! Our teacher's name is Mr. Wang and he seems really nice. He started the class by telling us a funny story about when he was learning English as a student. He said he used to mix up words that sounded similar, like "beach" and "bitch"! We all laughed really hard. Then he told us we shouldn't be afraid to make mistakes when practicing English because that's how we learn. I felt much better after he said that.Next, Mr. Wang asked us what we knew about the compulsory courses we took in 9th and 10th grade. I raised my hand and said they taught us stuff like how to listen and speak in English, read passages, write compositions, and learn vocabulary and grammar. Mr. Wang said I was exactly right! He told us Compulsory Course 3 will build on all those skills we've already learned. One of the coolest things Mr. Wang said is that we're going to learn how to give presentations and participate in group discussions in English! He said those are such important skills to have, especially if we want to study or work overseas in the future. I'm a little nervous about the presentations but also excited to practice my speaking. We're also going to spend a lot of time listening to recordings and watching videos in English. Mr. Wang said it will help train our ears to better understand different accents and speaking styles. He played a short video for us where people from America, Britain, Australia and India were all speaking English. At first I had a hard time understanding the different accents, but Mr. Wang told us we'll get more practice and it will get easier. For reading, we'll read all kinds of articles, stories, and other passages in English. Mr. Wang said some will be easier and some quite difficult and challenging us is important to improve our skills. He also said we'll learn strategies for how to better understand the overall meaning and key points, even if we don't know every single word.Writing is another big focus. We'll practice different styles like narratives, expositions, letters, reviews and more. Mr. Wang said good writing is really important for doing well on tests like the Gaokao college entrance exam. We'll also get to share our writing with partners and get feedback to improve.Vocabulary is always so key for learning any language. In this class, we'll continue expanding our English vocabulary through contextualized learning. That means we'll learn new words byseeing them used in sentences and passages, rather than just memorizing lists. We'll also learn common roots, prefixes and suffixes to help us figure out words we don't know. For grammar, the class will cover more advanced topics like conditionals, subjunctive moods, inverted sentences, and other complex structures. Grammar can be kind of dry, but Mr. Wang said he'll try to make it fun by using games, competitions, and realistic example sentences. One part I'm really excited about is getting to study different cultures where English is spoken. Mr. Wang said we'll learn about the histories, customs, values, and ways of life in places like the US, UK, Australia, India, and more. He also encouraged us to share our own Chinese culture and traditions. I love learning about new cultures! At the end of class, Mr. Wang told us the goal isn't just to pass tests, but to become truly skilled English communicators. He said being multilingual opens up so many opportunities in our interconnected world today. I could see he really believes that, and it got me motivated to work hard in this class.Overall, I'm really looking forward to Compulsory Course 3! It seems like we'll get to practice all the key English skills -listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar, and cultural learning. Mr. Wang seems like篇4Hi everyone! I'm really excited to share my teaching plan for the super fun English course I'm going to take next year. It's called "English for Grade 11 Volume 3" and it's from this amazing university called Beijing Normal University. Get ready for an awesome adventure in learning English!First up, we're going to start the year by learning all about different jobs and careers. We'll read cool stories about people with awesome jobs like scientists, artists, and even astronauts! I can't wait to learn more vocabulary words for all the tools and equipment they use. Maybe I'll discover my future dream job. Then, we'll dive into the world of advertising. Ads are everywhere trying to convince us to buy things. In this unit, we'll analyze the language and techniques companies use in their ads. It'll be like becoming mini marketing experts! Who knows, maybe someday I'll create an ad campaign for my favorite toy or snack.Up next is one of my favorite topics - animals! We'll read all about incredible animals from around the world, their habitats, behaviors, and more. I'm looking forward to dazzling you with my immense animal knowledge. Roar! I might even show you my award-winning elephant impressions. After that, we'll learn about natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. While they sound scary, it's important to understand them and how to stay safe. We'll read firsthand accounts from survivors and learn cool facts too. Like did you know volcanoes make the coolest lava lamps ever? Just don't try making one at home! Then comes my absolute favorite part - exploring new places! We'll read travel guides, watch videos, and learn all about fascinating cities, historic sites, and beautiful natural wonders from across the globe. Grab your imaginary suitcase, because we're going on an adventure! But that's not all! The second half of the year is packed with even more awesome units. We'll dive into folk tales, urban legends, and mysteries from different cultures. I'll finally unlock the secrets behind Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and other legendary creatures. Spooky! After that mythology unit, we'll shift gears to the topic of sports and competitions. Get ready for some action-packed readings and videos about extreme sports, the Olympics, andmore! I'll teach you kids some slick soccer moves too. You're welcome! As we near the end of the year, we'll examine different views and perspectives on major issues affecting the world today. Things like the environment, technology, poverty - basically all the serious grown-up stuff. But don't worry, we'll discuss it in a fun and engaging way! Finally, we'll end our incredible journey by exploring the world of art and artistic expression. We'll analyze famous works from painters, sculptors, musicians and tons of other creative geniuses. Who knows, this unit might just inspire the next generation of great artists!Throughout this all, we'll practice our reading, writing, listening and speaking skills by doing energetic activities and fun projects. There will be roleplays, presentations, videos, games, you name it! No boring lectures or textbooks here.I'm so unbelievably excited to embark on this awesome English learning adventure with all of you next year. We'll build our language skills while exploring captivating topics that stir our curiosity and imaginations. Raise your hand if you're just as thrilled as me!Get ready for an insanely fun, engaging, and rewarding English learning experience. Beijing Normal University's "English for Grade 11 Volume 3" is simply going to be...EPIC! Let the adventure begin!篇5Hi friends! I'm so excited to tell you about the fun English lessons we'll have this year. It's a special course called "Selective Module 3" and it's going to be awesome!First of all, we'll learn about different cultures from around the world. Isn't that cool? We'll get to explore fascinating traditions, delicious foods, and beautiful arts and crafts from places like Africa, Asia, and South America. It'll be like taking a trip around the globe without even leaving our classroom! But that's not all! We'll also dive into some really interesting topics like environmental protection, scientific discoveries, and human rights. These are important issues that affect us all, and we'll get to discuss them in English. I can't wait to share my thoughts and hear what you guys think too.Another fun part of the course is that we'll get to read and watch lots of cool stories and movies. Some of them might even be from other countries, which means we'll get to practice ourlistening and reading skills in English while being entertained. How awesome is that?篇6My English Class Adventure!Hi friends! Today I'm going to tell you all about my awesome English class. We're learning from this really cool book called "Optional Module 3" and it's packed with fun stuff. Get ready for an exciting journey!First up, we started a unit called "Social Media and the Internet." Can you believe kids these days are already using social media? My parents won't let me have any accounts yet, but I learned all about the pros and cons. Like how you can connect with people from all over the world, but also need to be careful about online safety. We had to write posts pretending we were famous influencers - I chose to be a cute puppy influencer! Then we moved on to "Technology and Innovation." This was my favorite unit! We learned about all the amazing inventions that make our lives easier, like smartphones, laptops and robots. We even got to design our own innovative products.I created a super cool pair of self-tying shoelaces. No more struggling to tie knots! The "Environmental Protection" unit was really eye-opening.I had no idea things like pollution, deforestation and climate change were such big problems. But we learned what we can do to reduce our carbon footprint, like recycling, saving energy and eating less meat. Our teacher showed us pictures of cute baby animals whose habitats are threatened, which made me want to do my part to protect them.Up next was the "Workplace and Career" module. We explored all the different jobs people can have - everything from scientists and engineers to artists and athletes. I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but it was fun taking personality quizzes to find potential career matches. Who knows, maybe I'll end up as an English teacher like Ms. Roberts!I don't want to spoil everything, but let me give you a sneak peek at some other cool units we'll cover: exploring different countries and cultures, learning about philosophical ideas and beliefs, and analyzing literature and art. We'll get to read classic novels, watch famous movies, and create our own poems and paintings. How awesome is that?In each unit, we practice our English through a ton of activities like role-plays, debates, presentations and group projects. It's never boring because the topics are alwayschanging and engaging. And of course, we keep building our reading, writing, listening and speaking skills along the way.You know what else is awesome? We get to use so much technology in class these days. Our school has a whole computer lab with language learning software. We play interactive games and watch videos to make the lessons come alive. Sometimes we even get to video chat with students from other countries to practice our English conversationally.I know learning a new language can seem really hard, but Ms. Roberts makes it fun and easy to understand. She's so patient when we make mistakes, and always finds creative ways to explain confusing grammar rules and vocabulary. I can tell she really cares about helping us succeed. One of my favorite things is when we get to work in groups or pairs. It makes practicing English feel like just hanging out with friends instead of studying. We play games, ask each other questions, and help one another out. It's a nice break from just listening to the teacher lecture.I also love celebrating when we master something new. Like when we finally grasped the super tricky past perfect tense, Ms. Roberts brought us all little treats. It felt so rewarding toovercome that challenge together as a class. Those are the moments that make all the hard work feel worth it.Even though English class keeps us super busy with all the reading, writing, projects and activities, it never feels like a drag. The units are engaging, the lessons are interactive, and we get plenty of opportunities to practice what we're learning in a relaxed environment.I may be biased since it's my best subject, but I honestly look forward to English class every day. Between the cutting-edge topics, creative assignments and Ms. Roberts' fun teaching style, how could I not? It's an awesome adventure in learning.I hope you're just as excited as I am to tackle the rest of Optional Module 3! We've got so many fascinating units ahead. Who's ready to become an English master with me? Let's dive in!。

The new curriculum standards for the third semester of 2022 will bring about changes in the teaching plans for schools and educators.

One of the most significant changes in the teaching plan for the third semester of 2022 is the emphasis on digital literacy and technology integration. The curriculum standards will likely require educators to incorporate more digital tools and resources into their lesson plans to ensure students are equipped with the necessary skills for the 21st century.

In addition to digital literacy, the new curriculum standards may also highlight the importance of interdisciplinary learning. Educators may be required to design lesson plans that integrate multiple subject areas, allowing students to make connections across different disciplines and gain a more holistic understanding of the material.
