15、The American type of football was developed in the 19th century from soccer and rugby(橄榄球)football and it is one of the most popular sports in the world. The beginning of football may have been a game played by the ancient Greeks. In this game, there was no limit(限制)to the number of players.
The football field of today is 120 yards long and about 53 yards wide. White lines are painted in the field to mark off the distance to the end area. The game is divided into four parts, each fifteen minutes long. The first two parts are known as the first half. There is a rest period (时间)between the two halves. It usually lasts about fifteen minutes.
Each team has eleven players. Players are required to wear protective equipment(设备)to help keep the body safe during the game. Hard hats are worn to protect the head and the face. Pads(防护垫)are worn to protect the shoulders, arms and legs.
The football is made of leather and is brown in colour. It is shaped much like an oval(椭圆形)and has white rings near each end of the football. These rings help the players see the ball when it is thrown or someone is running with it.

16、It can be hard to meet people from another culture. From the beginning, people may send the wrong signal (信号). Or they may pay no attention to signals from another person who is trying to develop a relationship.
Different cultures emphasize(强调)the importance of relationship building to a greater or lesser degree. For example, business in some countries is not possible until there is a relationship of trust. Even with people at work, it is necessary to spend a lot of time in “small talk”, usually over a glass of tea, before they do any job. In many European countries—like the UK or France—people find it easier to build up a lasting working relationship at restaurants or cafes rather than at the office.
Talk and silence may also be different in some cultures. I once made a speech in Thailand. I had expected my speech to be a success and start a lively discussion; instead there was an uncomfortable silence. The people present just stared at me and smiled. After getting to know their ways better, I realized that they thought I was talking too much. In my own culture, we express meaning mainly through words, but people there sometimes feel too many words are unnecessary. Even within Northern Europe, cultural differences can cause serious problems. Certainly, English and German cultures share similar values; however, Germans prefer to get down to business more quickly. We think that they are rude. In
fact, this is just because one culture starts discussions and makes decisions more quickly.
People from different parts of the world have different values, and sometimes these values are quite against each other. However, if we can understand them better, a multicultural(多元文化)environment will offer a wonderful chance for us to learn from each other.
1.In some countries, eating together at restaurants may make it easier for people to ______.
A.keep each other company
B.share the same culture
C.get to know each other
D.develop closer relations
2.The writer mentions his experience in Thailand to show that ______.
A.too many words are of no use
B.the English prefer to make long speeches
C.even talk and silence can be culturally different
D.people from Thailand are quiet and shy by nature
3.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Multicultural Environment
B.Cross-Cultural Differences
C.How to Understand Each Other
D.How to Build Up a Relationship

18、
There’s much to see under the sea, but you nee d to remember that light behaves differently in water than in air. The objects appear closer to you than they exactly are. You might find yourself reaching out to touch something and completely missing it.
Objects under water will appear larger than they would on the surface, too. Be careful not to tell any stories about the big fish that got away. The fish might not be so big after all! It’s just because sometimes things can seem to be as much as about 33 percent bigger in water!
What’s more, in deeper water, colors just don’t seem as bright. In fact, it looks as if some colors are missing. Remember the color of an object results from the wavelengths(波长) of light that are reflected from its surface. And light is taken in as it moves down through the water.
Swimmers wear wet suits to keep warm underwater. Let’s take a bright red, yellow, and blue wet suit as an example. These colors are hard to miss on the surface of water. Watch carefully the changes in color as you descend in water. The red part now looks almost black because the red light wavelengths, the longest among these three colors, are missing. As you go down deeper, the same thing will happen to the yellow part and in the end to the blue part. Even at a place of about 6 to 9 meters underwater, you will look terrible, like a ghost(鬼怪)! And you have to wait for your return to the surface to enjoy the bright colors again.
Do you have a better understanding of the behavior of the light underwater? We need to be careful about the objects around us and explore(探索) their mysteries by ourselves.
1.You miss the object underwater when you want to touch it because___________.
A.your eyesight is quite poor
B.your are not quick enough
C.it is not as close as it seems
D.it disappears very quickly
2.The example of the wet suit is used to explain the change of __of an object underwater in paragraph 4.
A.the size B.the color C.the position D.the weight
3.The underlined word “descend” probably means _________ in paragraph 4?
A.move up B.move on water
C.stop breathing for a while D.go down
4.Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.A four-meter-long fish looks three meters long underwater.
B.Much water will be taken in by the swimmer deep in the water.
C.The wavelengths of red light are longer than those of the blue light.
D.Y ou will see a ghost if you go as deep as 6 to 9 meters into the sea.
5.Which of the following would be the best title of the passage?
A.The Standard of Color Underwater
B.The Direction of Light Underwater
C.The Beauty of Color Underwater
D.The Behavior of Light Underwater

19、In Guangzhou, more and more students begin to ride the shared bikes to school. We can see those bikes everywhere. Surely, they bring us a lot of convenience while a lot of problems take place at the same time as well.
Students like them because of the following reasons. First, it’s very convenient to use the shared bikes. They can unlock the shared bikes by simply using their phones. Second, it’s cheap to rent the shared bikes. It only costs 0.5 yuan for half an hour.
However, there are some problems as well. Some people park the bikes disorderly. Some people break the bikes on purpose or even steal the bikes.
In my opinion, people should learn how to use the shared bikes properly so that it can make our life easier and our city better.。
