So when I’m tire d of English cooking, I go to one of the Soho restaurants. Sometimes I even have a bottle of wine! Wine isn’t cheap in England. It isn’t something we drink every day.English people do not talk as much as we do. I’ve often traveled by train and nobody has spoken to me during the journeys. I know one Englishman who is unusual, he speaks seven languages. He can also be silent in seven languages! But I’ve found one way to make him talk. He’s interested in mountain climbing. If I ask him about climbing, he’s al ways ready to talk.参考答案1~5 CABAC 6~10BBBAA 11~15ACCBC 16~20 ACAAC21~23DCD 24~27 BADC 28~31BCBC 32~35DACB 36~40 FBCGA41~ 45 BCADB 46~50 CAACD 51~55 DBCAD 56~60 DBCAB61. excited 62. looking 63. its 64. began 65. because66. whose 67. confidence 68. with 69. extremely 70. a短文改错Nowadays, after-class activities are becoming increasingly popularly in senior high school. Is it the price you see on the gift receipt? Or is it the look on the recipient's face when they receive it that determines the true value? What gift is worth the most? This Christmas I was debating what to give my father. My dad is a hard person to buy for because he never wants anything. I pulled out my phone to read a text message from my mom saying that we were leaving for Christmas shopping for him when I came across a message on my phone that I had locked. The message was from my father. My eyes fell on a photo of a flower taken in Wyoming. and underneath a poem by William Blake. The flower, a lone dandelion standing against the bright blue sky, inspired me. My dad had been reciting those words to me since I was a kid. That may even be the reason why I love writing. I decided that those words would be my gift to my father.I called back. I told my mom to go without me and that I already created my gift.I sent the photo of the cream-colored flower to my computer and typed the poem on top of it. As I was arranging the details another poem came to mind. The poem was written by Edgar Allan Poe; my dad recited it as much as he did the other. I typed that out as well and searched online for a background to the words of it. The poemwas focused around dreaming, and after searching I found the perfect picture. The image was painted with blues and greens and purples, twisting together to create the theme and wonder of a dream. As I watched both poems passing through the printer, the white paper coloring with words that shaped my childhood. I felt that this was a gift that my father would truly appreciate.Christmas soon arrived. The minute I saw the look on my dad's face as he unwrapped those swirling black letters carefully placed in a cheap frame, I knew I had given the perfect gift.31. To describe the gifts the author has receivedBMothers and daughters go through so much—yet when was the last time a mother and daughter sat down to write a book together about it all? Perri Klass and her mother, Sheila Solomon Klass, both gifted professional writers, prove to be ideal co-writers as they examine their decades of motherhood, daughterhood, and the wonderful waystheir lives have overlapped (重叠).Perri notes with amazement how closely her own life has mirrored her mother’s: both have full-time careers; both have published books, articles, and stories; each has three children; they both love to read. They also love to travel—in fact, they often take trips together. But in truth, the harder they look at their lives, the more they acknowledge their big differences in circumstance and basic nature.A child of the Depression (大萧条), Sheila was raised in Brooklyn by parents who considered education a luxury for girls. Starting with her college education, she has fought for everything she’s ever accomplished. Perri, on the other hand, grew up privileged in the New Jersey suburbs of the 1960s and 1970s. For Sheila, wasting time or money is a crime, and luxury is unthinkable while Perri enjoys the occasional small luxury, but has not been successful at trying to persuade her mother into enjoying even the tiniest thing she likes. Each writing in her own unmistakable voice, Perri and Sheila take turns exploring the joys and pains, the love and bitterness, the minor troubles and lasting respect that have always bonded them together. Sheila describes the adventure of giving birth to Perri in a tiny town in Trinidad where her husband was doing research fieldwork. Perri admits that she can’t sort out all the mess in the households, even though she k nows it drives her mother crazy. Together they compare thoughts on bringing up children and working, admit long-hidden sorrows, and enjoy precious memories.Looking deep into the lives they have lived separately and together, Perri and Sheila tell their mother-daughter story with honesty, humor, enthusiasm, and admiration for each other. A written account in two voices, Every Mother Is a Daughter is a duet (二重奏) that produces a deep, strong sound with the experiences that all mothers and daughters will recognize.36. Why does Perri think that her own life has mirrored her mother’s?A. They both have gone through difficult times.B. They have strong emotional ties with each other.C. They have the same joys and pains, and love and bitterness.D. They both have experiences as daughter, mother and writer.37. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?A. The content of the book.B. The purpose of the book.C. The influence of the book.D. The writing style of the book.39. How are women’s lives explored in this book?A. In a musical form.B. Through field research.C. With unique writing skills.D. From different points of view.CBrrriiinnng. The alarm clock announces the start of another busy weekday in the morning. You jump out of bed, rush into the shower, into your clothes and out the door with hardly a moment to think. A stressful journey to work gets your blood pressure climbing. Once at the office, you glance through the newspaper with depressing stories or reports of disasters. In that sort of mood, who can get down to work, particularly some creative, original problem-solving work? The way most of us spend our mornings is exactly opposite to the conditions that promote flexible, open-minded thinking. Imaginative ideas are most likely to come to us when we’re unfocused. If you are one of those energetic morning people, your most inventive time comes in the early evening when you are relaxed. Sleepy people’s lack of focus leads to an increase in creative problem solving. By not giving yourself time to tune into your wandering mind, you’re missing out on the surprising solutions it may offer. The trip you take to work doesn’t help, either. The stress slows down the speed with which signals travel between neurons(神经细胞), making inspirations less likely to occur. And while we all should read a lot about what’s going on in the world, it would not make you feel good for sure, so put that news website or newspaper aside until after the day’s work is done.So what would our mornings look like if we wanted to start them with a full capacity for creative problem solving? We’d set the alarm a few minutes ear ly and lie awake in bed, following our thoughts where they lead. We’d stand a little longer under the warm water of the shower, stopping thinking about tasks in favor of a few more minutes of relaxation. We’d take some deep breaths on our way to work, inst ead of complaining about heavy traffic. And once in the office—after we get a cup of coffee—we’d click on links not to the news of the day but to the funniest videos the web has to offer.40. According to the author, we are more creative when we are _______.A. focusedB. relaxedC. awakeD. busy41. What does the author imply about newspapers?A. They are solution providers.B. They are a source of inspiration.C. They are normally full of bad news.D. They are more educational than websites.42. By “tune into your wandering mind” (in Para. 2), the author means “_______”.A. wander into the wildB. listen to a beautiful tuneC. switch to the traffic channelD. stop concentrating on anything43. The author writes the last paragraph in order to _______.A. offer practical suggestionsB. summarize past experiencesC. advocate diverse ways of lifeD. establish a routine for the futureDIn my living room, there is a plaque (匾) that advises me to “Bloo m (开花) where you are planted.” It reminds me of Dorothy. I got to know Dorothy in the early 1980s, when I was teaching Early Childhood Development through a program with Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. The job responsibilities required occasional visits tothe classroom of each teacher in the program. Dorothy stands out in my memory as one who “bloomed” in her remote area.Dorothy taught in a school In Harlan County, Kentucky, Appalachian Mountain area. To get to her school from the town of Harlan, I followed a road winding around the mountain. In the eight-mile journey, I crossed the same railroad track five times, giving the possibility of getting caught by the same train five times. Rather than feeling excited by this drive through the mountains, I found it depressing. The poverty level was shocking and the small shabby houses gave me the greatest feeling of hopelessness. From the moment of my arrival at the little school, all gloom (忧郁) disappeared. Upon arriving at Dorothy’s classroom. I was greeted with smiling faces and treated like a queen. The children had been prepared to show me their latest projects. Dorothy told me with a big smile that they were serving poke greens salad and cornbread for “dinner” (lunch). In case you don’t know, poke greens are a weed-type plant that grows wild, especially on poor ground.Dorothy never ran out of reports of exciting activities of her students. Her enthusiasm never cooled down. When it came time to sit for the testing and interviewing required to receive her Child Development Associate Certification, Dorothy was ready. She came to the assessment and passed in all areas. Afterward, she invited me to the one-and-only steak house in the area to celebrate her victory, as if she had received her Ph. D. degree. After the meal, she placed a little box containing an old pen in my hand. She said it was a family heirloom (传家宝), but to me it is a treasured symbol of appreciation and pride that cannot be matched with things. (360 words)44. “Early Childhood Development” in Paragraph 1 refers to __________.A. a program directed by DorothyB. a course given by the authorC. an activity held by the studentsD. an organization sponsored by Union college45. She received her Ph. D. degree.48. What does the author mainly intend to tell us?A. Whatever you do, you must do it carefully.B. Whoever you are, you deserve equal treatment.C. However poor you are, you have the right to education,D. Wherever you are, you can accomplish your achievement.E“Get your hands off me, I have been stolen,” the laptop, a portable computer, shouted. My hometown is in northeast China where the winter is very long-almost five to six months. Playing the shuttlecock outside was the main game in winter. Because I liked to play this kind of game very much, the shuttlecock became my good friend who was always around me in the long winter. How the game was playedActually, this game was very simple. In a word, it just was played by a person who kicked the shuttlecock with his or her foot (right foot or left foot)and kept it from dropping down on the ground as long as possible Sometimes we were divided into two teams, and each team had one, two or more persons. Then we had a match to see which team could keep playing for a long time(usually we counted the number of the kicks). The team that could keep playing much longer would win.How I made the shuttlecocksIt was easy to make them by hand. At that time, I really didn't know where I could buy a shuttlecock. Therefore, I always made them by hand and by myself(I didn't realize that they mightbe a kind of folk art, so I threw all of them away when I left the primary school)I used chicken feathers to make the shuttlecock. Particularly, I preferred to use rooster feathers because of their colors. Sometimes, I also used some thread, which was made of hemp, flax, or some similar thingsto make the shuttlecock, if I didn’t find chicken feathers. For the small metal base, I usually chose two or three ancient Chinese coins with a hole in the middle. I just put the chicken feathers into the hole of the base, and then tied them together very well.28. What can we know about the writer?A. It is warm in her hometown in winterB. If you are one of those energetic morning people, your most i nventive time comes in the early evening when you are relaxed. We’d set the alarm a f ew minutes early and lie awake in bed, following our thoughts where they lead. We’d stand a little longer under the warm water of the shower, stopping thinking about tasks in favor of a few more minutes of relaxation. We’d take some deep breaths on our way to work, instead of complaining about heavy traffic. The author writes the last paragraph in order to _______.A. offer practical suggestionsB. summarize past experiencesC. advocate diverse ways of lifeD. establish a routine for the futureDIn my living room, there is a plaque (匾) that advis es me to “Bloom (开花) where you are planted.” It reminds me of Dorothy. Upon arriving at Dorothy’s cla ssroom. In the journey, the author was most disappointed at seeing __________.A. the long trackB. the poor housesC. the same trainD. the winding road46. Upon arriving at the classroom, the author was cheered up by __________.A. a warm welcomeB. the sight of poke greensC. Dorothy’s latest projectsD. a big dinner made for her47. What can we know about Dorothy from the last paragraph?A. She was invited to a celebration at a restaurant.B. She got a pen as a gift from the author.C. She passed the required assessment.D. That is a new solution to laptop computer theft: a program that lets owners give their property a voice when it has been taken. The program allows users to display alerts on the missing computer’s screen and even to set a spoken message. Tracking software for stolen laptops has been on the market for some time, but this is thought to be the first that allows owners to give the thief a piece of their mind.Owners must report their laptop missing by visiting a website, which sends a message to the model: a red and yellow “lost or stolen” sign appears on its screen when it is started. Under the latest version(版本)of the software, users can also send a spoken message. The message can be set to reappear every 30 seconds, no matter how many times the thief closes it.” One customer sent a message saying,’ You are being tracked.I am r ight at your door’,” said Carrie Hafeman, chief executive of the company which produces the program, Retriever. In the latest version, people can add a spoken message. counter. When our food came,I started walking towards an empty table.By bad luck,my purse strap (带子)got caught on a chair and the tray (托盘)that I was holding slipped from my hands and went flying in the air.The tray, and its contents, fell on a man who was just about to take a bite of his sandwich.I stared, greatly shocked,as the drinks soaked (浸湿)his white shirt. Then I closed my eyes and prepared myself for his burst of anger.Instead,he said“It’s OK”to comfort me before he disappeared into the washroom.Still shaky and unsure what to do next,my friends and I went to a table and sat there, trying our best to look calm.A moment later, the man came out of thewashroom and approached our table. My heart almost stopped beating.I thought he was going to ask for my father’s number and call him.To my surprise,he merely smiled at us,handed us some cash and said,“Buy yourself new hamburgers.”He then walked away without even finishing his food.He could have made what was already an uncomfortable situation worse, but he chose a different way and gave us a reason to believe that there is still kindness in this world.I’ll never forget his actions.21.What happened to the author in the restaurant?________A.She fell down to the ground.B.She celebrated passing the exams.C.Her purse strap got broken suddenly.D.Her tray slipped and made a man’s shirt dirty.22.What do we know about the man?________A.He was very rich.B.He was kind and forgiving.C.He made the situation worse.D.He enjoyed his food in the restaurant.23.How did the author feel about the whole incident?________A.Angry.B.Calm.C.Moved.D.Regretful.BIs there anything more important than health?I don’t think so.“Health is the greatest wealth.”wise people say.You can’t be good at your studies or work well when you are ill.If you have a headache, toothache, backache, earache or bad pain in the stomach,if you complain of a bad cough,if you run a high temperature and have a bad cold,or if you suffer from high or low blood pressure,I think you should go to the doctor. The doctor will examine your throat, feel your pulse, test your blood pressure, take your temperature, sound our heart and lungs, test your eyes, check your teeth or have your chest X-rayed.After that he will advise some treatment,or some medicine. The only thing you have to do is to follow his advice.Speaking about doctor’s advice,I can’t help telling you a funny story. An oldgentleman came to see the doctor. The man was ill.He told the doctor about his weakness, memory loss and serious problems with his heart and lungs. The doctor examined him and said there was no medicine for his disease. He told his patient to go to a quiet place for a month and have a good rest.He also advised him to eat a lot of meat, drink two glasses of red wine every day and take long walks. In other words, the doctor advised him to follow the rule:“Eat at pleasure, drink with measure and enjoy life as it is.”The doctor also said if the man wanted to be well again,he shouldn’t smoke more than one cigarette a day.A month later the gentleman came into the doctor’s office. He looked cheerful and happy. He thanked the doctor and said, “He had never felt a healthier man”.“But you know, doctor,”he said,“It’s not easy to begin smoking at my age.”24.The writer thinks that________.A.health is more important than anything B.work is as important as studiesC.medicine is more important than pleasure D.nothing is more important than money25.The underlined part means“________”.A.he will be well again B.he wasn’t a healthy man C.he was feeling worse than before D.he was feeling better than ever26.From the last sentence of the passage,we learn the man________ before the doctor told him notto smoke more than one cigarette a day.A.was a heavy smoker B.didn’t smoke so much C.didn’t smoke D.began to learn to smoke 27.Which of the following is NOT true?________A.The doctor usually tests his/her blood pressure when a person is ill.B.The man didn’t follow the doctor’s advice.C.The man thanked the doctor.D.The man told the doctor he couldn’t remember things.CBEIJING (News Agency)-Children in China today spend five times more money than their parents did when they were young. So what are all these children buying? The list is long:iPads, cell phones and jeans are typical items that children “have to”buy. And they will do anything to get them. They ask their parents over and over until they buy them. But parents also need to take the blame for spending so much money. They want their children to have the best things. They end up competing with other parents over what their children have.So it’s no wonder children find it hard to learn the importance of saving money rather than spending it all the time. And it’s hard to save when companies use advertising and clever slogans to encourage young people to buy their products. They even encourage children to keep asking their parents for something until they get it.Today, you don’t even need to have money in order to buy something.Banks give out credit cards and loans (贷款)all the time,so people are saving less and less.We are used to carrying lots of money around. And if you don’t have much, you can always borrow some. But this hasn’t always been the case. When our grandparents were young, there was very little money and everyone had to save hard for things they bought. They only bought things they needed, not things they just wanted. The older generation made the wise expression,“Money doesn’t grow on trees.”This is as true now as it was 50 years ago. They give money a great deal of value. And we all have a lot to learn from them.28.The text mainly tells us________.A.divisions between teenagers and their parentsB.what is popular among children at the momentC.how to spend money wiselyD.children’s high consumption(消费)of products29.Parents are to blame for children’s spending a lot of money because________.A.they don’t give children positive guidance in consumptionB.their consumption habits set a bad example to childrenC.they always give children too much pocket moneyD.they offer to buy the latest fashions for their children30.Which of the following statements is NOT mentioned in the passage?________ A.Banks provide credit cards and loans.B.Advertisements draw people’s attention to new products.C.People’s living standard has improved and they can buy what they want.D.People have more money than in the past and saving is out of date.31.The saying“Money doesn’t grow on trees.”in the last paragraph seems to tell us that________.A.the older generation understood how to teach children to saveB.in the past, people attached more importance to saving moneyC.money has a great deal of valueD.money is not easily earned and people should be careful when we spend it.DIt may come as a shock to owners, but dogs hate being hugged,a study has shown.Animal psychologists say dogs feel stressed and unhappy when they are hugged by their owners, because it stops them being able to run away.In a study which analyzed 25 pictures of dogs as they were being hugged, eight out of 10 animals looked clearly uncomfortable.Experts at The Kennel Club, and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, also agreed that owners should not treat their dogs like children, because most pets did not like to be hugged. The new study was carried out by Dr. Stanley Coren,a professor of psychology atthe University of British Columbia. He analyzed images of dogs being hugged by adults and children he found on the Internet, looking for signs of stress. At an extreme end, when a dog is especially anxious it shows its teeth or may bite, but Dr. Coren said there are other signs that it may be uncomfortable but they are small and not obvious.Signs of stress include the dog folding its ears down,half-moon eyes or turning its head away to avoid eye contact. If the dog has its eyes closed,it could also be a sign of anxiety.Open its mouth or raising one paw is another warning sign."The clear suggestion to come out of this research is to save your hugs for your two-footed family members and lovers."It is clearly better from the dog’s point of view if you express your fondness for your pet with a pat,a kind word, and maybe a treat."Some people think that giving their dog a hug is a nice thing to do,but the reality is that a family pet will often tolerate a hug but doesn’t like it.“On the whole dogs are sociable animals and love communicating with people, but any action that restricts a dog’s movement could make them uncomfortable and it is important for an owner to recognize the signs of stress or anxiety.”32.According to the study, what might a dog not feel when it is being hugged?________A.Stressed.B.Uncomfortable.C.Shocked.D.Unhappy.33.Which of the following is not the sign of stress for dogs?________ A.Showing its teeth B.Folding its ears down.C.Raising one paw.D.Keeping eye contact.34.According to the passage, what are dog owners suggested to do?________ A.Hug their family members more.B.Stop touching their dogs.C.Stop treating their dogs as friends.D.Leave their dogs alone.35.What’s the main idea of this passage?________A.A study shows that dogs hate being treated like children.B.A study tells owners that dogs dislike being hugged.C.A study teaches owners how to treat a stressed dog.D.A study teaches owners how to recognize an uncomfortable dog.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
